a quick update on my radio silence and lack of fanfic update:

i may post in more detail at a later date, but to keep it short

my computer had a relatively minor issue that required wiping the hard drive. the technician made A Mistake and didn’t backup my data before deleting everything. My last 10 months of stuff is lost forever. I’m still depressed and in denial -this is my first time even sitting on the PC in three weeks- so I haven’t looked at my actual backup to see just how much was lost

I hope to have more news soon-ish but it’s end of semester. Send good vibes!

Spring 2019 Anime Anticipation rundown

Whilst I finish writing my monstrous Fall-Winter review, let’s have a quick rundown of the new shows I’m looking forward to for the upcoming spring season.

Sequels: Attack on Titan 3 part 2, One Punch Man 2 (worried about the full staff rehaul though), and Bungo Stray Dogs 3. Nothing much to add in that regard, they’re all pretty high profile.

Must watch

Sarazanmai: I don’t know what’s the deal with MAPPA, ever since Yuri on Ice they’ve been pumping out unique stories one after the other, with great quality and visionary creators with strong points of view. Sayokan, Utsumi Hiroko and now they even got their paws on Ikuhara. I’m so excited to see a new original story from Ikuni, specially to see him for the first time addressing the male experience of which he’s always seemed to have a negative opinion. I’m seriously seriously super hyped about this one, the plot sounds cuckoo bananas and the style is vibrant and exciting. (First impressions of the pre-screening are coming out and everyone seems super hyped!!!)

Fruits Basket: Unlike American anime fans my age, I never watched the original Fruits Basket anime. I did however read the whole manga (and still own it) and I love it to pieces. Knowing how upset Takaya had been with how the first anime turned out, I’d never held hope of getting a readaptation, and I’m so happy and excited that it’s actually happening! I’m really happy that Takaya had this chance of seizing control of her own creation and having it adapted the way she wants to. Can’t wait to see it.

Carole & Tuesday: I guess this section is all about creators whose work I already like, this time at the hands of Shinichiro Watanabe and BONES, my other favorite studio. They also seemed to have gone out of their way to make interesting casting choices, specially the singing voices and I’m really looking forward to that. I also love the stylish production and character designs

Optimistic about:

Kimetsu no Yaiba: Although not as hyped as Neverland, I’ve heard good things about this series and the plot sounds interesting. I do tend to try out most Shonen Jump stuff anyway. I’m worried about ufotable’s involvement though, for all their visual pizzaz, all of their recent productions after Fate/Zero have been lacking in storytelling.

Namu Amida Butsu! Rendai Utena: It has fantasy elements mixed in with some sort of historical setting and I like the character designs. The plot sounds otherwise generic but giving it the additional dimension of making them characters from the Buddhist pantheon could make it interesting and educational. It’s a coin toss

number 24: This one was announced very recently and it looks like a quieter, softer take on rugby compared to All Out! Although I’m not against campy bombastic sports shows (hello I love Yowapeda and All Out), i think the trend of more thoughtful down-to-earth sports anime have given us real gems like KazeTsuyo and of course YOI, so i’m very intrigued by how it’ll turn out. Bonus points for being college-centric.

Curious about

Mix: So this one’s kind of a sequel of a classic and critically acclaimed baseball anime called Touch which I’ve never watched. It’s entirely possible it won’t be possible to watch it without knowledge of the previous series, but I want to give it a shot. Maybe this can be the anime that gets me into baseball, something many before have tried and failed at

Fairy Gone: On one hand the plot sounds like a cool fantasy concept, on the other for some reason it gives me Goblin Slayer vibes. I’ll check the first episode

Kono Oto Tomare!: I wasn’t initially interested in this one but i’ve seen a few blogs I follow showing hype about the series and it’s another music-themed anime -which tend to turn out really bad, with few exceptions. The designs remind me of Ao Haru Ride or Ore Monogatari. I’m also interested in hearing koto music and how much variety there may be for that instrument, as I’ve only ever heard a couple of pieces in my life and am not too familiar with its music

Mayonaka Occult Koumuin: I like anime about youkai and other supernatural beings *shrug*. The designs don’t look super interesting to me so far, but as you can see this list is quite short, so I may have time to check it out.

And that’s it for now, please let me know which shows you’re looking forward to in this upcoming season and if you think maybe i’m missing out on something!

Asshole anon aside, I feel like it should be noted that, as the series (which is farther along in the manga) progresses, it becomes increasingly apparent that Yuu actually isn't aro/ace; it's more that she had such a overly-romanticized perception of what falling in love with someone would feel like that it takes her a while to realize that she actually does have feelings for Nanami. Not hating on you for your choice or anything; just felt like pointing that out.

No problem, I appreciate the clarification, I’ve been hearing some buzz about the show and how it progressed the relationship, I actually hope to pick it back up again at some point, I’ve heard it turned out really sweet in the end :)

On your post about anime you are planning dropping when it comes to Banana fish i 100 percent agree with you. The first half was so great but i feel like when it came to the second half they lost momentum and with ever even episodes (14,16,18 ect) the quality drops while every odd episodes ( 15,17,19) the quality is good. I am fucking done it feel like it forgets its main plot at times and nobody is likable. Im so glad its ending next week.

Sorry for the  extremely late reply anon! To be honest I fell off at episode 16 due to other commitments (I’ll write up that super late Fall 2018 review later this week I think) and, learning that the ending from the manga hadn’t been changed, I decided not to pick it back up. I know of a lot of people who love the series and for whom it means a lot, that the manga had a huge influence in shojo and BL manga etc etc , but I’m a softie at heart and just ain’t here for so much sadness and misery. I’m specially not here for tragic love stories, I like to watch the characters I love achieve their goals and find happiness! Since that wasn’t gonna happen here I checked myself out

briefly coming back from the dead to bitch about a fic with a beautiful concept but the characters are so OOC ;----;

sorry for the radio silence, i’ve been busy to hell and back for a while. The purge is stupid but i don’t really post smutty stuff to begin with, so for the time being i expect to keep using this blog whenever I have time to pick back up my anime reviews and my fics (i’m hoping late january-early february?)

However, if/when another blogging platform that isn’t owned by stupid companies rises, do hmu, i honestly just wanna screw yahoo and verizon and whoever owns this dumb website for being stupid but my vanilla content ain’t it lol.

Here, have some female presenting nipples to make up for it:

Can I not read or did you not include that time I got reincarnated as a slime? (Tensei shitara slime datta ken). It is my favourite of this season! If you havent seen it yet please try it! Though ecchi, its not over done and has some really interesting plot points. Also zombie girls are the cutest

You’re right that I’m not watching Isekai Slime :’D A lot of people have reccommended it, but tbh reading the summaries of the premise and the first episode didn’t give me a burning curiosity to watch it. And as I mentioned, I barely have enough time to keep up with what I’m watching rn (I’m 3 episodes behind on Banana Fish) so unless you could guarantee it would land in my uh… let’s say top 5 of the season (so on par with Zombieland Saga), I don’t think I can make time to catch up with it unfortunately, at least not before the season ends

Yeah I agree the summaries dont do it justice, and episode 1 wasn’t that intense, I guess Mr. Slime’s internal thoughts and planning entertain me, they kinda remind me of overlord in a way.

So if you like overlord I’d give it another chance, but other than that I dont think it would be that much of a disaster if it passes you by.

Oh! Overlord gives a pretty decent frame of reference. I wasn’t a fan of that one either, I think I dropped it three episodes in. I think I can safely pass on Slime if it’s similar to that one. Thanks anyway! Maybe one day when I’m not drowning in work I’ll give it a shot still :)

Have you watched mo dao zu shi?

I haven’t! I saw some folks gushing over it on twitter but I have no idea of where I could watch it, I understand it’s not being simulcast? Idk if any fansub group has picked it up in English either but I am very curious about it :3

Fall Anime 2018 Watchlist

We’re about halfway into the season so this is probably kinda pointless by now, but here’s a quick rundown of the stuff I’m watching this season.

Dropped

Jingaisan no Yome: This is a 3 minute show and I won’t spend longer than that writing about it (I’m timing myself). I didn’t know it was a short going in. I’m not really into shorts, Saiki kun being the only exception and the story was less MahoYome and more... i don’t even have an apt comparison, it just was maybe more serious about the “marriage” thing than something with a giant floofball character should be.

Tokyo Ghoul: Re 2: It’s simple. I watched episode 1 and realized I had no fucking clue of how any of this related to the ending of the first season, no idea of who half the characters were and where did they allegiances lie and what is Kaneki even trying to do. Although not loyal to the manga, the first two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul had a story that could be followed and made sense, this, however, is just jumping over plot points with no rhyme or reason and there’s nothing but confusion.

Bloom Into You: There’s nothing actually wrong with this show and I was kind of looking forward to a yuri romance that wasn’t rapey or incesty bullshit, but something about this one just didn’t click with me. Like Touko fell in love with Yuu too quickly, and given Yuu’s ace/aro identity, it would feel weird for her to do a 180 and suddenly fall in love with Touko. I kind of want more fun and emotions in my romance stories and this one didn’t have much of either.

Chopping Block

Given a few things the past two weeks that didn’t go according to plan, I fell behind on my anime watching after keeping it in control for the first third of the season and i’m quite annoyed. And because of this, and my upcoming research trip to Japan at the end of the month, I might end up having to drop a couple of series.

Bakumatsu: Objectively speaking, this show is really bad. The production values are poop, the story is a wacky mess that takes itself a bit too seriously and the characters are flat and uninteresting, the villain is egregiously boring. This show also has Matsuo Basho as a secret tive traveling ninja, and that puts me at quite the predicament. I want to see more of this utterly bonkers historical reinterpretation, but boy do I wish they could make it more exciting.

SAO Alicization:  The only reason I, a notorious SAO hater, is watching SAO is because I hate myself. With that out of the way, boy is this SAO boring. We’re four episodes in and the only thing that’s happened is they cut an old tree because nothing can stop Kirito and his new friend, Yellow Kirito. This show needs to start getting offensive and/or stupid soon or i’ll die of boredom.

Karakuri Circus: I hear this one’s from the same mangaka as UshiTora? I love UshiTora and I can see the resemblance between giant guy whose name I can’t remember and Tora. His character and his schtick are so far the most interesting thing to me, with the kuudere puppet girl whose main purpose seems to be to get paired with him  having yet to make an impression on me. I’m also still not really certain what the overall plot is. I do love stories about found families, so hopefully I can stick with this one

Hinomaru Sumou: If my watching schedule were normal, this wouldn’t be in this section. Whilst not the best sports show of the season, and chock full of some of the most eyeroll worthy aspects of sports shonen *cough cough* toxic *cough cough* masculinity *cough cough*, Hinomaru Sumou has the fire and passion for an underrepresented sport that’s usually enough to hook me. I just don’t have time, and if push comes to shove, I’ll prioritize other shows over this one.

Banana Fish: Yo, okay, before you lynch me for being a hater or whatever, let me tell you I have zero issues with Banana Fish. I don’t hate it, I don’t think it’s Bad Representation(TM) whatever the fuck that means, I definitely don’t think it’s fujobait or just another BL. It just doesn’t make me happy. This probably doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I’ve never been a fan of tragedy. It’s also part of the reason I’m dropping Tokyo Ghoul. I don’t like hopeless stories and tragic romances. I’m somewhat spoiled on how the manga ends and each time I find myself less and less inclined to watch the newer episodes because the descent into misery is just not enjoyable for me. It’s not the show’s wrongdoing, it’s just not the kind of story I like. I’m probably too far along to drop it at this point, but also I kinda wish I could drop it because I get so little joy out of it. Also, my main hook is of course Ash and Eiji’s relationship, but 15 episodes in (I’m behind, as is evident) the time they’ve spent together is so minimal, I can’t even appreciate that a whole lot.

I guess I’m watching this?

Dakaichi: Me: Man I really want a yuri anime without rapey bullshit. Also me: watches BL anime with rapey bullshit. I have literally no excuse. I think the basic setup lends itself really well for a romcom and Takato is a very likable character, it’s a shame it’s the same old rapey bullshit. In my defense, episode two was really sweet and I’ve been hoping for more stories along that line, even though the show has failed to deliver them since. Episode 5 may have pushed the line even beyond what I’m willing to tolerate, but it’s unclear. I might end up unexpectedly dropping it after episode 6. HEY JAPAN WOULD IT KILL YOU TO MAKE A BL ANIME THAT WASN’T RAPEY BULLSHIT? JUST ONE?

(honestly, Takato deserves better)

wao episode 6 was maji disgusting i might drop it after all

Fairy Tail Final: I just want closure man. This adaptation retains all the worst attributes of the previous season, terribly slow pacing (what for?! the manga is over!!) minimal animation, recapalooza. The color palette is slightly brighter than before, which I appreciate. Fairy Tail’s last arc wasn’t as bad as Bleach’s, but it was still pretty bad in the manga; still I hope seeing it animated will make it feel less messy and slightly more coherent. The FT anime has also in the past filled in some blanks that existed in the manga, so hopefully they can make the best out of it here.

(Erza is still my wife)

Tsurune: No, this isn’t the best sports anime of this season either. Although that’s hard to judge given how it’s barely on its second (third, i’m behind) episode. Technically, I feel more compelled to drop this than Hinomaru, but also I want to give it a fair chance. That said, the first episode was.... profoundly underwhelming and borderline upsetting, with how everyone put Minato on the spot in spite of his having an actual psychologic condition that drove him away from kyudo. I’m all in for stories about growing and surpassing your own obstacles, but I hope they go about it in a less mean-spirited way. Also, the characters feel pretty shallow so far. I’m not even gonna pretend the main reason I want to keep watching isn’t gorgeous guy with the ponytail-san, because I’m now old enough that I immediately gravitate towards the senseis rather than the teenage protags.

i am so weak to long hair  _(:3」∠)_

welp he cut his hair right next episode, thanks for nothing kyoani

In spite of everything, Anime is, in fact, Good

Golden Kamuy: Like with many split-cours, there’s nothing much to say beyond “if you liked the first one, you’ll like this one”. The production values are still tragic, but I think the pace has improved, and the dynamics between the different factions are so fluid and constantly changing they make the story very enthralling. It also continues to have the Best Reaction Faces.

Gakuen Basara: Listen, listen. You all knew I was gonna watch this. And I love Basara so much I still think this show is a masterpiece even when it’s objectively atrocious. I do not reccommend it to anyone who isn’t already a fan (and I mean a blind fan willing to consume anything from this franchise, even in its cheapest, dumbest, worst looking incarnation). That said there are a couple of interesting things, namely the power rivalry between Hideyoshi and Nobunaga, this never happened in the original series because Nobunaga died before Hideyoshi was introduced. Anyway, just shoot that Masamune x Kojuuro fanservice straight into my veins please and thank you

Zombieland Saga: One of the two biggest surprises of the season and one that was nowhere near my radar. An original production by studio MAPPA with perhaps the wildest premiere episode of the season that’s somehow making me like idols?! It’s also giving us the most Miyano Mamoru has ever Miyano’d and it’s amazing and histerical. The characters are also very charming, specially bikegang leader Saki and the always legendary Yamada Tae and the show isn’t scared of letting its cute idols get gross and silly and dirty. There’s also a feeling of mystery that I find very appealing. Definitely didn’t expect this one to be one of the highlights of my week, yet here we are.

SSSS Gridman: Just when I’d vowed a giant fuck you to Studio Trigger, in they come with one of their most quiet productions yet, with characters that speak their lines in soft, leveled voices, tragedies that feel palpable, emotionally climactic battle scenes and a sense of tension and mystery that makes it impossible to take your eyes away. It does have the caveat of oversexualizing the female characters, specially the villain, and not giving Rikka virtually anything to do, but past that, it’s been a very pleasant and intriguing surprise. Also of note, I have no background knowledge of the Gridman tokusatsu series but that hasn’t really been an impediment to enjoy this series.

Double Decker: Doug & Kirill: A spinoff to the 2010 superhero hit Tiger & Bunny, we have a less superpowery buddycop comedy with a cool and diverse cast, whose main character wants to BRING DOWN CAPITALISM, okay, put an end to economic inequality and classes, but that’s basically the same thing. The show is pretty far along because it premiered early for some reason, and so far it’s been mostly one-shot stories very thinly connected to the distribution of the illegal drug Anthem, with our main plot having only come up two episodes ago with the fantastic Zabel and Bamboo Man twist. The dynamics between the main duo are great and Kirill is a riot as a protagonist.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru: Or Run with the Wind. Now THIS is the best sports anime of the season. Brought to you by the studio behind Haikyu, based on a novel by the author of Fune wo Amu. Firstly I love that it’s set in university, because it gives the cast a lot more variety in their interests, ages and personalities, their goals, their baggage, and it makes the process of bringing this team of misfits together even more interesting to watch. The characters feel very human in the way they speak, their worries, their relationships, their actions. The show’s done a great job so far in building the characters and making them worth cheering for. Also Ouji is my spirit animal. If you ever wanted a show to motivate you into running, this is what you’ve been waiting for! Another great surprise of this season for sure.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo: Finally part Five is here! And in it we get perhaps the most interesting Jojo protagonist right off the bat, with troubled Giorno and his difficult past and his wonderful Stand ability. His new set of allies is also quite eccentric and interesting and every scene and dialogue has that special Jojo flavor of crazy and ridiculous and always a load of fun. This one will have 39 episodes, so we’re barely getting started and I’m already loving all of it.

Thunderbolt Fantasy 2: Urobutcher’s favorite puppets are back with a vengeance! Every bit as fun, insane, cool and over-the-top as the first season, with the added value of the rapport between the characters, evidenced by how brilliant the few scenes in which Shang and Lin share the screen are. With a brand new story that expands the world of our favorite puppets, and even more new gorgeous puppets added to the mix to make Shang’s life a mess, this show is definitely my favorite this season and potentially of the year. Let Urobuchi keep doing puppets for as long as he wants!

ooof i’m finally done. It’s midseason so probably nobody cares but do hmu with your favorite shows of the season and if there’s anything worth hatewatching that I may be missing ;)

Summer 2018 Final Review

As I explained in my Spring review, my anime watching time plummeted dramatically due to my mom’s unemployment, so I had to massively scale down to barely a dozen shows, vs 20ish I was watching in spring. I dropped Senjuushi (found myself bored to death in the first 10 minutes), Yume100 and Tsukumogami Kashimasu, and gave up on checking out Sirius and Baki. You win this round, stupid Netflix.

Worst to best. I’m also including the shows that were continuing from Spring. Not including Banana Fish, the only summer show that I’m watching and continues into the current season.

Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou Holmes: Did I have any particular expectations for this show? Not really, I just wanted to see Kyoto sceneries. Somehow this show managed to stay beneath my expectations through its whole run. From its absolutely potato production values, to half-baked, poorly solved mysteries, an overarching plot that went nowhere, and a romance story that just never landed, the show kind of failed on everything it set itself to do and that’s kind of incredible in its own right. It didn’t even provide Kyoto sceneries, with most of the story confined to closed houses and shops. The show doesn’t even make me angry, it’s just a monument to mediocrity in every possible way.

(appreciate the melting faces)

Angolmois: I’ve mentioned a million times that I’m a rekijo through and through, and anime with historical settings get me excited like nothing else. I was really looking forward to how they would reimagine the mongol invasions. Turns out they just wanted a macho power fantasy in which the one dude gets the tsundere princess and is the only one with a chance to survive against the invaders. The whole thing is just a parade of misery and pointless deaths to make the main character look super strong and heroic. I do appreciate the completely random appearance of emperor Antoku, as someone who is extremely passionate about ridiculous and fantastic representations of historical characters, when Antoku showed up, alive and old smack in the middle of the 1300s (emperor Antoku died as a child at the end of the 12th century), I found myself screeching.

Phantom in the Twilight: I was kinda talked into binging this one two weeks before the season ended. Gotta say I wasn’t super impressed, the show also suffered massive potato production values, the design of the bishonen was pretty generic and the story was overall cheesy and dumb. But I do appreciate the novelty in Ton as a proactive reverse harem protagonist who takes the reins of her fate and is capable of saving herself and those she loves.

(enjoy more melting faces)

Hanebado!: My story with Hanebado is quite rocky. I wasn’t interested in it at first, then it had that phenomenal first episode with a very strong second ep following. Then it kinda lost focus and finally completely lost it bonkers after the midpoint, with Hanesaki going murder mode after her loss to Connie. I should’ve realized sooner that the title Hanebado was for Hanesaki’s Badminton, but I only realized it too late, when I was already tired of all the Ayano nonsense and wanted to get more of Nagisa, a far more interesting character. I’ve heard the manga had several changes of tone early on and the anime seems to have tried to mellow them out a bit, which made the story very inconsistent -Ayano and Connie the main victims-. Another issue is the show’s failure to condemn Uchika and just leaving us hanging on to what even is her deal. I think it’s a step in the right direction in terms of the kind of sports anime with female characters that I want to see more of, but the lack of consistency hurt the overall production quite a bit. Oh, but the direction and animation was fantastic!

Steins;Gate 0: What a started as an interesting and engaging spinoff that had one of the most beautiful episodes of the whole franchise, petered out into boredom and pointlessness in the second half and it’s quite disheartening. There were still some highlight moments, but overall, the end feeling I had for this whole side story is that it served very little purpose, explaining things that didn’t really need explaining and adding random plotlines that kind of went nowhere, like the whole Kagari business, Moeka suddenly not being one of the bad guys, a random new character with Reading Steiner that never was relevant, the whole AI approach that could’ve been so much more cutting and interesting but wasn’t, and the cartoonish villain. I was specially frustrated by the fact we didn’t even get to see the real Kurisu in the end. Oh well, we will always have that one episode that was absolutely brilliant.

(faces aren’t as melty, but clearly this staff didn’t have any color on hand besides brown and gray, this show looks sad and ugly)

Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight: What if someone wanted to make an idol anime but they were a huge, huge Ikuhara fan? That is the question Revue Starlight sets out to answer and the result is as fascinating as Ikuhara’s best and as cryptic as his worst. Although I didn’t connect with the main story between the main girls whose names I can’t remember for the life of me, the episodes focused  on Banana-senpai and the girls who played the main couple in the 99th show were pretty strong, and the stylishness of the battles, the songs and the intense teen emotions made it all very compelling even when I wasn’t understanding most of it. Worth checking out for sure. Also: Lesbians.

Free! Dive to the Future: Oh, Utsumi, why did you leave us. Even though every Free! fan had been clamoring for a new season, they somehow managed to make Season 3 the season no one ever asked for, fans of the novels and the Starting Days movie and fans of the anime’s two seasons, neither got the focus on the characters they love, with the story scattered across four or five cities and two dozen characters that only interact in small groups of three that never cross. Also, every notorious swimmer in the world actually came from Iwatobi. It felt like we wasted 8 episodes on Ikuya’s (overblown) melodrama only for the character to completely disappear in the last third of the show. Overall, the season felt more setup for the inevitable World Championship/Olympics/whatever they’re planning to do in 2020. I just hope that most of the issues with this season are a product of its fillerish nature and not just that Free has really become a shell of its former self without Utsumi. I’m putting it this high on the list because on a superficial level i enjoyed seeing these characters again, but the whole package was just sourly lacking. Needs more Rin in general and RinHaru moments.

Attack on Titan 3: The opposite case from above, season 3 keeps the tone and pace of the second one to a tea, with the handicap of adapting a somewhat weaker part of the manga when seen in isolation. I also feel the anime tried a bit too hard to humanize Kenny and that the Ackerman reveal was just kinda thrown there. Let’s hope there’s a season 4, because their chosen stopping point makes a fantastic season finale, but would make a very frustrating ending if this were to be the last season.

Planet With: It seems the new trend is “shows I didn’t even have in my radar and somehow end up among my favorites of the season”. Planet With isn’t terribly deep or complex, the character designs are somewhat generic and old-fashioned, and if you heard of the plot it would sound equal parts generic and overstuffed. Yet, somehow, the show manages to strike the perfect balance of excitement and heart, with a brisk pace that somehow doesn’t feel rushed and masterful writing that quickly endears the audience to its characters. It’s a simplistic story about love, war and families that manages to feel entirely new. It’s a shame it’s a sales disaster, because the industry definitely needs more original stories like this.

Lupin III Part V: This one was a rocky ride too, with a very strong start, then some really bleh episodes in the middle -to the point I was close to dropping it when I fell behind on everything, mid-summer, but the second half, the return of Ami and the final arc were brilliant in every possible way, specially the meta commentary they added to the Lupin mythos. When Lupin is down at his worst and Jigen tries to persuade him to quit, the speech Lupin gives, about wanting to see what’s next in the hero’s story, it was so powerful in a narrative sense, it made all the floppy episodes worth the watch. Definitely something you should check out if you’re a Lupin fan.

Cells at Work! Listen, folks, I went into the humanities because I found science dreadfully unappealing, so how dare this stupid poorly veined edutainment make me so invested in the inner workings of the human body and the anthropomorphized versions of the cells whose hard work i waste day in and day out with my decadent lifestyle?! I’m sorry Neutrophyl, i wish I was a better human being so you wouldn’t have to deal with so many pathogens ;----; Jokes aside, this show isn’t just edutainment, but very clever and funny in ways that edutainment shouldn’t be allowed to be. I didn’t expect anything going in and I’m so pleased it turned out to so much fun. And it managed to teach me some science!

Boku no Hero Academia 3: Hero Academia, like a good wine, only seems to get better with time. An okay first season gave way to a great second season and an absolutely fantastic third. The midseason finale was, easily the strongest emotional climax of the series so far (and I’m not saying that just because I have the biggest crush on All Might). And it doesn’t stop there; what makes this show so special is how well thought out and crafted its worldbuilding is, and how intelligent in its development of the sociocultural repercusions of the hero system, how evildoers and society at large react to certain events in a way that feels real and natural because it mimics how many things work in our real world. Although the season finale was kind of a clunky spot, we know a season 4 is coming, so I’m not worried, and in fact can’t wait to see how this story continues.

And that was it for the Summer, whoosh! Maybe if I keep on this roll I can actually do my Fall season watchlist ;----;
