In L’enfer, the daily scenes are shot in black and white, and Marcel’s visions and fantasies are shot in color, the improbable color of madness. To produce these “shock images”, Clouzot could rely on two exceptional technicians: Claude Leon, head of fabrication at LTC Labs, who would stop the lab to do his enigmatic printing tests and Michel Deruelle in charge of makeup who experimented in new ways: actors covered in sequins or olive oil, blue lipstick, multicolor makeup.

Romy Schneider and some other continental delectables are on view in The Victors, a new war movie. How did Carl Foreman sign them up?
"The attitude of continental movie stars is different from that of American stars; they don't look at things in terms of how much footage they are getting. If they like the role, the project, and the director, they will take it. I sent them copies of the script and they accepted,” says Foreman.
That they did is a tribute to Foreman, for he wrote the script, then directed and produced the film, as a completely personal statement on this theme:
"War, any war, big or little, just as well as unjust, degrades the victors equally with the vanquished.”

“Princess Grace, who never shops for food at home, bargained cheerfully with fruit and vegetable vendors at the city market in Montego Bay, and bought more than she had intended at an ‘irresistible’ Chinese supermarket. ‘You like the yams, my boss?’ asked a native who failed to recognize her. She said she did, and she took enough for her entire Jamaican staff of seven. The Prince’s secretary supplied the $8.40 she spent shopping, and a plainclothesman (facing her, below) toted the groceries to the car.”
