Russian Juniors for 2017

Because I don’t have the time or energy to make an in-depth junior post this year, I figured I would just list the top ones with links to their most recent routines. They’re ranked roughly according to AA scoring ability.

I’ve only include the girls who, IMO, have a shot at international assignments this year.

Did gabby said whether or not she'll return for Tokyo ? I looked and I haven't seen anything so I'm wondering if I missed anything and if you knew. Do you think that she'll return again ?

Here’s an ESPN article from a few days ago (x)

Right at the end:What do you mean, “retirement?” When people use that word, I pretty much laugh and say, “Come on! Tokyo 2020!” Dominique Dawes, my role model, went to three Olympics. She’s my inspiration. Right now, we just finished the tour and everyone is looking forward to some time off. My vacation to Tahiti is the next thing on my list. One step at a time!

Personally, I think she still has physical potential to continue. The question is: does she really want to do it? I can see how the results of Rio might leave her with a feeling of unfinished business. If so, I hope she can find more stable and positive training environment since I think her falling out with Kittia Carpenter was at a lousy time. The excessive criticism from social media (further perpetuated by mainstream media) also didn’t help, so I hope she’ll be spared some of that if she plans to return for Tokyo. If not, I hope she’ll have some effective ways of not letting it get to her.

Eurovision and gymnastics (Part 1)

I’ve always loved the Eurovision Song Contest (even though I dislike 90% of the songs…) and I’m always happy when I hear a song from it being used in gymnastics.  I’ve decided to compile a list of some of the “ESC” routines that I could think of.

Eurovision is more popular with RG gymnasts but several songs have found their way to AG. The most famous one is probably Wild Dances by Ruslana (who won the contest in 2004) used by Jordyn Wieber in 2011/2012.

Jordyn Wieber (USA) 2011/2012

Sam Peszek (USA) 2007

Kim Janas (Germany) 2011

Lara Omahen (Slovenia) 2015/2016

Bulgaria Balls/Ribbons 2013

Maria Holbura uses that awkward  Polish song from a few years ago. You know, that one that had that girl with an unholy cleavage making cheese on stage.
