Star Wars!Gadge

“Guess who’s got a date,” Thom grins at them, rocking back and forth on his heels. Leevy snorts from beneath Thom’s X-Wing and he glares, kicking her lightly in the ankle.

“Lemme see,” Gale ponders with a roll of his eyes, “is it you?”

Thom beams even as Leevy snorts again.

“Yep, with Delly,” he explains, voice smiling and Leevy slides out from under the starfighter.

“Has she met you?” she asks with a raised eyebrow and Thom makes a face.

“Very funny. You done yet?”

Leevy scowls at him as she rubs greasy hands on her pants.

“No, I’m not.”

“How come? You’ve been at it for ages!” Thom whines and Gale leans back against his own X-Wing with crossed arms.

“Well, that’s what happens when the pilot insists on crashing into everything he passes,” Leevy grumbles, waving her hydrospanner at him irritably.

“I do not!” Thom protests and Leevy opens her mouth to retort. Gale feels a headache coming on and decides to interrupt.

“So, Delly? That was the girl we met at the bar, right?”

Thom gives Leevy one last beady eyed glare before turning to Gale, his whole face changing, the thought of Delly lighting him up like the sun.

“Yeah, she was great, huh?”

Gale shrugs, doesn’t honestly remember much about Delly. He was a little busy with her friend…

“I wouldn‘t know, I was repairing a faulty hydraulic system” Leevy sighs, returning to Thom‘s X-Wing

“Well, she was, she really was,” Thom assures her brightly. “And she’s working in communications, right here on Liberty. What’re the odds, right?”

“Yeah, definitely,” Gale agrees and Thom suddenly favours him with a smirk.

“And wouldn’t you know, her friend Madge is stationed here too.”

Gale narrows his eyes and Leevy takes note of Thom’s tone, pops up beside him.

“Who’s Madge?” she asks and Thom smirks a little wider.

“Just some pretty blonde Gale spent all night chatting up.”

Leevy’s eyebrows go up and Gale glares at Thom, wonders if he can make him set fire with his eyes. If only he had the Force…wait, can the Force do that?

Gale has been trying not to think about Madge, trying and failing. He fell asleep with her face against his eyelids, the scent of her fruity shampoo lingering in his nose. He dreamt of losing horribly at sabacc, her smirk and firebright blue eyes. Of dancing too close, her body warm in his arms. Her laughter, the teasing tone lacing through all her words. The taste of her, the fever he’d felt as she kissed him before they’d said goodbye, turbolasers firing in his brain.

And then morning came.

As wonderful as that night had been, it could be never be anything more. First and foremost, he didn’t even know her last name, didn’t know how long she’d be on base, didn’t know where she’d be shipped out to. But really, the honest reason, was that he couldn‘t afford it, the distraction. He had to stay focused on the war, on fighting it, winning it, living through it. He had to see the Empire fall, had to get home to his family.

And Madge, Madge would steal his focus, swallow up a part of him. After just one night, she’d danced through his thoughts all day, how much worse would it be if they were involved? And he’d worry, worry about her when she was working, worry about never seeing her again when he was. It was better he didn’t know her last name, where she’d be sent.

It was better this way.

Except apparently the universe didn’t agree.

“Pretty blonde…like the one talking to Bristel?” Leevy asks and Gale snaps out of his reverie, whipping around. He finds her immediately. Madge, chatting with Bristel and Darius. She’s writing something down on a datapad and Gale feels his stomach do funny things.

damn it man, get a hold of yourself

“Speak of the Sith,” Thom whispers eagerly as he peeks over Gale’s shoulder. “That’s her alright.”

“Wow,” Leevy says appreciatively. “She looks nice.”

Gale nods in agreement and then stops himself. Woah, remember what we decided? We‘re better off without her. Right?

“She’s coming over here!” Thom cheers and Gale stiffens, realizes he’s right. Madge is still writing on her datapad, but definitely headed straight for them. Gale has a split second where he ponders doing nothing, acting like Madge is just another crewmember. He turns hurriedly to Leevy instead and tries his best to smooth down his hair.

“How bad am I?” he asks and Thom snickers.

why are you freaking out? he chastises himself, you’ve already made out with her, talking shouldn’t be that big a deal.

“You look fine, a little sweaty maybe, but fine,” Leevy assures him with a roll of her eyes and pats him on the shoulder. Gale tries his best to ignore Thom and hopes he doesn’t smell as bad as he thinks he does. Madge reaches their little group and Leevy shoves him forward, Thom practically giggling.

“Hello, I’m Lieutenant Undersee,” Madge starts and then stops when she recognizes him and Thom, her eyes going wide.

“Oh, Gale, hi,” she breathes, looks a little shy and Gale smiles, feels kinda warm.

“Hey, fancy, uh, seeing you here,” he tries and then frowns, because what the hell was that? Thom’s snickering reaches a new level and Leevy pinches him.

“Um, well, the uh, the General asked me to schedule personnel evals before we ship out, so when exactly would you be free?” Madge asks, cheeks pink and Gale doesn’t say anything until Leevy elbows him.

“Right! I’m free the next two nights after 1800 hours,” he tells her and turns to glare at Thom, wishes he could kick him in the shin. Madge nods and punches it into her datapad.

“So…how about tomorrow at 1900 hours for your eval and then, the next day, same time, for dinner?”

Gale jerks his head around to look at her, even Thom stunned into silence.

say no, say no. you can‘t afford this Gale, you know it.

Madge is smiling nervously, eyes not quite meeting his and Gale grins.

maybe I can

“I’ll be there.”

Madge’s smile loses its nerves, her eyes bright as she meets his. “Great, I’ll see you then.”

Her smile drops when she notices Thom and Leevy’s wide eyed looks, her skin flushing red. She clears her throat and offers her most professional smile.

“And the two of you?”

“For dinner?” Thom asks and Madge darkens in embarrassment.

“No, you idiot,” Leevy mutters, jabbing him in the side.

“Just, just for your evals,” Madge clarifies and Gale can’t quite believe what just happened. Madge thanks them and scuttles off, heading for the doors and Thom lets out a low whistle.

“Well, damn.”

Leevy shakes her head.

“You must’ve made one hell of an impression at that bar,” she says and Gale doesn’t answer, still a little in awe that he’s going on a date with Madge in two days. He can see her as she reaches the door, turns back and shoots him a smile with a little wave and Gale grins, stomach swooping.

Maybe this is a mistake, maybe he‘ll regret it later.

(he won’t)

But one thing‘s for sure, he’s definitely not the only one who made an impression that night.

Hunger games gadge where madge is from a different district.

Gale shakes his head, trying to rid himself of the images that are there. Fucking Tracker Jackers and their stupid fucking poison. He only got stung by two but two is two too many and the world is fucking spinning. Everything is spinning.

And Posy’s there, her voice crying out in terror. And his brothers are there, Rory and Vick, begging him to come outside and kick the ball. And his mother’s there, gently brushing his bangs from his forehead.

But it’s not his mother. The girl is blonde, her blue eyes are wide and worried, and something dangerous leaks into Gale’s stomach. “No,” he rasps. He can’t die like this, by the hands of a girl from District 4, hands that are sleek and smaller than his own. Not like this.

He tries to stand, he falls, and his mind rolls to black.

Gale’s surprised at what two Tracker Jacker stings can do to a person. He knew it was bad, sure, but he didn’t realize it would be this bad. When he finally comes to his head is still swimming and his mouth is painfully dry. He’s never been thirstier in his life. He squints up at the sky, silently begging for Haymitch to send him something, when he turns to find a tin cup beside him.

The rational side of his mind loses as he reaches out, downing the liquid before even thinking about it. He doesn’t think about the blonde girl who coaxed him to sleep, doesn’t think about the dangers of tributes in an arena. He’s just thirsty

When the cup is empty it clatters to the ground, banging on a rock and making him flinch. “Go ahead,” a voice says a few feet from him, “tell the whole forest where we are, why don’t you?”

Gale fumbles for his bow and arrow immediately and comes up empty handed. He tries sliding backwards and finds he’s hidden by a wall of rocks. Finally he turns, finding the girl a few yards in front of him. Margaret Undersee, District 4.

“What the fuck?” Gale rasps. He hasn’t used his voice in days. “What–what’s?”

“Going on?” she asks. “My district partner tried to touch me when I told him no,” she says, “so I slit his throat. Your district partner jumped off their pedestal early and got blown to pieces.” She gestures toward the sky. “While you were out they announced that the rules changed.”

Gale scoffs, still trying to handle the person in front of him. She’s beautiful, that’s true, but she’s deadly. “The rules didn’t change.”

“If they hadn’t changed,” she mutters, “I would’ve slit your throat, too. But I’d like to get home. And the other careers cast me out. So you’re my best option.”

Gale’s gaping. “What’s the change?” he demands.

“One boy and one girl,” she tells him. “Doesn’t matter the district. And I’ve seen you shoot.” Gale needs to close his mouth. She extends her hand to him. “Call me Madge.”

“Madge,” he echoes, mostly in an attempt to get his thoughts straight. “That’s not–”

“I guess I can still slit your throat, if that’s what you want.”

Gale stares at her outstretched hand. He knows it’s a horrible idea, but he reaches forward anyway.

I religiously check this page daily for updates, and I have a fantasy that you'll write a prompt I've been thinking about for ages. It's gadge where, when they arrive in district 13, Madge is being taken away from Gale so he pretends they are married. Then they actually have to convince everyone and get married to get a marriage certificate.

In the aftermath of the bombs, Gale didn’t expect to start caring about anyone new. It was his family and the Everdeens, that was it. Those were the only people he could afford to care about. Of course when he went hunting he was hunting for as many as he could, he wasn’t a heartless monster, but when it came down to it he was always going to make sure his family was fed before anyone else.

But one night during rounds, making sure people had water, making sure kids had something to munch on, he found Madge Undersee huddled alone under a tree. She was barefoot and the bottom of her feet were black and blistered, as though her sandals had fallen off as she ran. Her hair wasn’t golden anymore, it was thick with ash. There were stains on her cheeks cutting through the black from when she cried. Her arms were wrapped around herself and she sat, staring at the ground without words.

At first, Gale walked away from her. There was a funny feeling in his chest at leaving her alone but he didn’t really have a choice. She was just another mouth. Still, he mentioned it to his mother. Just in passing.

“Where?” Hazelle asked, her voice sharp. “Where is she?” Gale watched with confusion as Hazelle stood, then, and marched off to Madge Undersee before welcoming her into their small little group with open arms.

“It’s not necessary,” Madge said, more than once, shushed by Hazelle every single time.

Gale didn’t understand the gentle care that his mother gave, wiping her cheeks with an old rag until her pale town skin was visible again. It was evident when Hazelle took her to the river because Madge came back with her golden hair a mess of curls, the bottoms of her feet bandaged. “Where’s your family?” Hazelle asked that night, and Madge just shook her head.

That night, as Posy curled up by Madge’s side and the two of them slept as though the world hadn’t ended, Gale accepted that if his family cared about Madge, then he would too. (He wouldn’t be happy about it, but whatever.)

“I can’t believe you were going to leave her alone,” Hazelle said that same night, her eyes following Gale’s to where Madge held Posy close.

“It’s not like we’re friends,” Gale reminded her tightly.

Hazelle was quiet for a moment before turning to her son. “There’s something you should know,” she said softly.

She has sex with gale in front of him to make her point. They're both law students and eventually some sorority girls help her kick him out of campus.

I Guess We’ll Have to Share a Bed

A/N: @hawtsee, girl, I hope this is way better than the first one I wrote, because let’s be honest it was crap. I didn’t even like the first one! And since I’m finally on spring break and finally have time to write a new one, here you go! Better late than never!

The prompt Hawtsee wanted was Gadge reunited after a long time apart!

Hope you all enjoy! And happy belated birthday (hopefully this fic makes up for the horrible one I wrote on your birthday, lol!)

I Guess We’ll Have to Share a Bed (Hawtsee’s Updated Birthday Fic)

If Gale’s day could get any shitter, he thinks he’d shit himself right there in the airport’s shit, plastic chair that made his ass go numb hours ago. He’s already surrounded by a bunch of horny college students that he was in charge of taking to Greece for a summer field trip for his class. There are many reasons as to way he could immediately list off how this day is shit, 1) there’s a group of girls on this trip who won’t stop staring at his ass or making comments about his “beautiful, scruffy beard,” 2) he’s been sitting in this shitty plastic chair for 6 hours now because the damn thunderstorm won’t disappear, 3) he’s already spent $15 on shitty, too expensive Starbucks coffee that wasn’t anything like a good cup of Joe from his hometown’s finest, 4) he has to time these damn kids when they go to bathroom to make sure they’re not doing anything inappropriate (like come on, guys, he wasn’t born yesterday), and 5) his beautiful wife that he hasn’t seen in a month is all the way in New York in the sunshine and he’s jealous as hell. Here he is in rainy Greece, and there Madge is in a bikini on the beach. Ugh.

Madge Hawthorne:

               Has it stopped raining?

Gale Hawthorne:

In my damn dreams, Undersee. I’m withering away on shitty coffee and vending machine food that has enough calories and sugar in them to kill me just looking at it.

A Gadge one shot inspired by Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter.

The Undersee Winery Fourth of July party was always a big hit. The wine poured freely. Gale Hawthorne, the young man hired to help out for the summer to pay for college, poured a bit of the signature strawberry wine into a glass and handed it to Madge. She may have only been seventeen, but Gale knew her folks didn’t mind. After all, it was their winery and a little wouldn’t hurt.
He leaned close. “I stashed a bottle of this stuff in my car earlier. Want to take off and share it?”
Madge looked up as the first of the fireworks went off. “Sure. But let’s walk.”
Gale retrieved the bottle and met Madge where the trees grew thicker around the vineyard. He slipped his hand into hers as they headed off down a worn path.
A river ran along one border of the property. They sat together. Madge took off her shoes and slipped them into the cool water. She’d never liked the summer, but with Gale here this year it was almost bearable.

You can read on FFN or AO3.

(Happy (late) birthday @hawtsee! You’ve stuck by the gadge train all this time and sorry I’m a tad late. Thanks for always encouraging me along and giving me the best support. I hope you have a rocking week and that this little bit of gadge just hits the spot. <3)

Madge cuts another bite of her pancake. “This is really good,” she says, clearly changing the subject with a soft smile. Gale smiles, ducking his head. “I like this. Staying in with you.”
Gale’s smile grows. “Good. I like you.”
“Nerd.”
Now he’s grinning.

Hey there! I was just wondering when we'll be getting a continuation of your Pretender fic :) Have a great day.

Three days ago, when I updated on Ffn and completely forgot to link to it here. Oops. Thanks for the reminder, Nonny.

Here’s chapter two of The Pretender.

Galehad flat out refused to have a valet help him get dressed in themornings. No way. But he had conceded to allowing the man suggest hisdaily outfits, because Gale had no clue what a prince was supposed towear. So, every morning when he walked into his dressing room, therewould be an outfit laid out for him. Clothes he had never seenbefore. Gale didn’t even know where his own clothes were. The onlyitems in the whole room that he recognized were his hiking boots.Everything else had been ordered for him by… his valet, he guessed.
Hesometimes wondered what happened to the clothes he had brought withhim. Had they been tossed in a furnace, donated to the poor. Wouldthey be returned to him when it was revealed this whole thing was onelong prank and he was sent on his merry way back to real life?
Thismorning’s outfit was grey trousers, a shirt and no tie. Itindicated the cultural studies class was an informal thing, which wasa relief. Part of the deal he had made with his grandmother was thatfor the past few years he had taken intensive classes in Panovianhistory, law and politics as well as learning to speak Panish. On topof attending college, it had been a heavy load. So a couple of casualclasses about art and music would be a breeze.
