And bonus: Tessa and Scott will still be #1 in WS after Worlds too. P/C can only add 120 more points to their score for the season, way below what they’d need to catch our favs!

When people ask why I think Tessa and Scott are literal perfection I show them this. The lines. The unison. The deep curves. This is why they are the best.

Tessa and Scott vs PC Free Dance

I have now watched the PC free dance multiple times and feel that I am able to form a coherent opinion.

First reaction:  Pretty good - pretty safe for them and in their wheel house.  It felt a bit long (which often means that I lost a bit of interest), but they hit the major notes and it had some lovely choreographed moments.  The judges will most likely like their style.

Upon closer inspection:  Still a lovely program, but something is missing.  Gaby is not as strong a skater and Guillaume is doing his usual display to compensate. The sitting twirl the did twice was a bit much for me. When it comes to emotional expression Guillaume is clearly the weak link here and Gaby tries to over-compensate.  In my personal opinion, it makes the emotion in the program fall flat.  She over emotes which to me comes across as disingenuous.   There is a disconnect that I cannot always put my finger on. The issue I always have with them is still not fixed: tiny stroking - they don’t push through properly.  

After reading other comments on their program here on Tumblr:  I came across someones comment about how much P/C rely on regular old crossovers to generate speed a lot (I wish I could find the post again and give them credit).  I think this person actually hit the nail on the head, when it comes to the issue I always have with them.  I have just not been able to put my finger on it.  So I went back to watch the FD again. BINGO there it was in plain sight.  They used side by side crossovers at least 6-7 times.  It is almost equivalent to when a singles skater telegraphs their jumps.

Tessa and Scott’s program was then inspected for the same.  And here the difference is so pronounced.  They do not rely on just standard crossover to speed up.  The only place they did some form of ‘easy’ stroking was when they did a complex hand changing and direction changing pattern.  

Obviously I am Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir fan, so I can be accused of being biased.  But let me throw this by all ice dancing fans:

Lets say we were in an alternate universe in which to win the Olympics the top teams would have to learn each others programs.  

i.e. P/C would have to skate their own programs, but would also have to learn and preform V/Ms programs and visa versa.

Who would win?

I have no doubt at all that Tessa and Scott would win by a huge margin.  Because they would be able to do P/Cs programs really well.  Possible even improve them.  But P/C would not be able to do the MR or the M/V short.  Tessa and Scott are able to skate multiple styles.  As a matter of fact, their MR program displays this perfectly in one program.  Starting sharp and edgy and ending up soft and Lyrical.  Their transformation is sublime.  I think at this point they are only competing with themselves, because no one else will get close.

So who are the better team?  To me there is no question here.

(Disclaimer: This is based on my observations and opinions.  I am not saying that P/C is not a world class team.  I am just saying that I think V/M are better)

after the whole press conference and interviews and just this whole week, I think that T/S have something going on but just won’t publicly say it, and I really admire that.

their situation with the media right now reminds me of when andrew garfield and emma stone were together. andrew and emma never confirmed or denied their relationship, trying to be as private as possible. they don’t need to tell anyone, just like T/S. that is why I agree with scott. their relationship is nobody’s business.

and they don’t want their private life to overtake what is truly important right now, their career achievements and their olympic gold for canada. they want to represent their country to the best of their ability as much as they can before they retire and live a more quiet life away from the public. i think that’s why they avoid and deflect questions about their relationship. the fact that they don’t straight up deny says a lot to me

i also just think scott explained it very well in that press conference, and i personally hope that maybe someday, after everything dies down and they are in retirement, they find the opportunity to talk about their relationship. it’s just currently not the right place and not the right time. I mean, they literally just won gold for their last competitive dance.

it is their life, and if they don’t want to talk about it then it’s fine too.

whatever it is that they have is obviously special and because of that, i understand why they want to keep it out of the public eye. they want to protect it.

OKAY NOW, back to regular programming where we continue to just admire and speculate from afar their unique special relationship that we all crave for.

I’m just gonna be over here in the corner, waiting until season sometime-in-the-future when the writers finally decide to give me Connor and Sarah scenes.
