This picture of a bunch of college kids trying to keep from getting busted by the police is like something from a baroque painting

We exist in a really weird time of culturally tending towards broad flattened tl;dr what’s the general idea/answer i can reassure myself I’m on the RIGHT side of narratives that I honestly think has been worsened by “[entire person] labelled as ‘problematic’” discourse.

On some level I find it surprising because most people can understand something like the idea of “The Perfect Victim Who Has Never Ever Done Anything Wrong In Their Life Because If They Had They Wouldn’t Be A Victim” being really oversimplified and an imposed binary view but I see it playing out a lot in like, deciding someone isn’t credible on virtually anything or deserving of respect and understanding in general because they were a dumbass or wrong about something largely unrelated to the matter at hand.

It seems…short-sighted jmo when we live in a complicated reality where many things are true, often in part/combination with other things, and one thing being true doesn’t necessarily disqualify other things from also being true. That really deeply unsettles us on some fundamental level I guess. It’s obviously difficult because we very rarely have as much information available as we would like or need but patterns and larger context are usually more meaningful when trying to analyse and interpret information and draw conclusions.
