uh idk which queer person needs to hear this today but it's okay to be scared

scared about what your identity means for you. scared about whether you'll get to be happy. scared to come out. scared of staying closeted. scared it's "just a phase". scared you'll be hurt (in any way). scared you'll lose people close to you over this.

you don't deserve to be scared, you deserve to be happy and at peace, but it is okay if you are scared. it's okay

One of the most common reasons I hear for people being against abortion is because “life is sacred.”

Really? Since when? When has life ever been sacred in this country?

If life is sacred, how come we don’t have universal healthcare?

If life is sacred, how come we don’t pass comprehensive gun laws so first graders don’t get gunned down in their classrooms?

If life is sacred, why don’t we offer paid maternal leave so mothers can actually take care of the babies that you are now forcing them to have?

If life is sacred, how come we don’t bat an eye when the police murder black kids?

If life is sacred, why do we have the highest maternal death rate in the developed world, which is only going to increase now that women are being forced to give birth?

If life is sacred, why is the death penalty even still a thing?

If life is sacred, why are we still encouraging violence against the LGBTQ+ community?

Life has literally never been sacred in this country. Maybe anti-choicers like to pretend that it is because it makes them feel righteous when in reality, they’re just misogynistic pieces of shit, but it’s not. And as long as psychotic, reactionary morons continue to steal power undemocratically and make decisions that the majority of us do not want, it never will be.

We live in a society in which everything is sexualized, and yet heterosexuality is somehow decoupled from the sex part of it.

Being straight is so ubiquitous, it’s somehow not thought of as a sexual thing most of the time. I think it has something to do with conflating sex and love, which is a whole other barrel of monkeys. But I think this explains so many homophobes and exclusionists’ views:

  • That simply being gay is seen as being openly sexual, even when the person in question is just kissing or holding hands with their partner, or even just mentioning their orientation
  • That an asexual person mentioning that they are asexual is “dragging people into their sex life”
  • Meanwhile, a straight person mentioning that they are straight, talking about their partner, and being openly affectionate in public with them is not seen as being unnecessarily sexual or corrupting the children because that’s just love
  • Related, that assigning children as heterosexual and joking about it is normal (onesies with “ladies man” and such on them)

When the critically-acclaimed TV series Killing Eve shocked viewers by ending with the oldest homophobic trope known as Bury Your Gays, it re-opened old wounds for the LGBTQ+ community. But fans are turning their betrayal into action, to ensure the next generation of queer viewers get to see happy endings for the characters they love - and themselves. Why is the "I feel things when I'm with you" scene from Killing Eve your favorite?

I think it's because in that moment we see just how unsure Villanelle is of pretty much everything. Eve is asking her if she meant what she said in the meeting and Villanelle doesn't know, she's asking her if she knows when she's telling the truth and she's not sure of that either. But then Eve says "you don't feel anything?" and Villanelle immediately replies "I feel things when I'm with you"

It's almost like Villanelle is saying "I'm unsure of everything, but this is the one thing I am sure of" and I just love that
