““When I was about 20 years old, I met an old pastor’s wife who told me that when she was young and had her first child, she didn’t believe in striking children, although spanking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was standard punishment at the time. But one day, when her son was four or five, he did something that she felt warranted a spanking–the first in his life. She told him that he would have to go outside himself and find a switch for her to hit him with. The boy was gone a long time. And when he came back in, he was crying. He said to her, “Mama, I couldn’t find a switch, but here’s a rock that you can throw at me.” All of a sudden the mother understood how the situation felt from the child’s point of view: that if my mother wants to hurt me, then it makes no difference what she does it with; she might as well do it with a stone. And the mother took the boy into her lap and they both cried. Then she laid the rock on a shelf in the kitchen to remind herself forever: never violence. And that is something I think everyone should keep in mind. Because if violence begins in the nursery one can raise children into violence.””

fuck esports, the only correct way to play smash is the way my 7 y/o niece plays it: connecting 2 controllers, setting one as peach, setting the other as marth, pretending marth is peach’s boyfriend and then playing virtual barbie and ken with them

smash esports livestream but it’s just thousands of people tuning in to watch my niece make bayonetta marry solid snake on the zelda temple stage

esports commentator: now watch what she does here. shes crouching with snake to indicate hes proposing. blink and youll miss it: she uses down+b to place a bomb- this is the wedding ring. going back to bayonetta, shes going to ever so slightly tilt the left stick forward, now this serves two purposes: 1.) to make sure she doesnt set off that bomb when she goes to accept snakes proposal, which would obviously ruin the whole scene, but 2.) and this is a more subtle touch, to show bayonettas hesitation. that's something we know about bayonettas character, shes very independent, so thats the true work of a master to incorporate that into their gameplay

Enemies to "I accidentally came across you while you were vulnerable and scared and I'm not a total asshole so I tried to help you" to "accidental mutual uncovering of softer sides and vulnerabilities" to "I can't be mean to you anymore, not out of pity but because it would feel weird betraying that brief truce we had" to "Fine I'll make an effort to be nice to you now I guess" to "actually now that we're not actively hating each other you're not so bad I guess" to "i think we're friends but I'm not going to say that because I'm afraid you're not gonna feel the same way" to "oh you also think we're friends? Great" to lovers

“Nondisabled people using amenities originally designed for disabled people does nothing but improve our lives”

I feel like it shouldn’t be a hard one to figure out, but apparently it is:

If an resource designed to cater to disability is limited, then don’t use it if you’re not disabled - like the limited number of disabled parking spaces or disabled toilets; if you use one, then someone who needs that resource won’t have access.

But if a resource is not limited, then more use will encourage more production. So use it! Buy it! Gluten free food became cheaper and more widely available after it became a fad diet, and now it’s easier for coeliacs to buy the food they need. Stim toys like fidget cubes became widely available and common use when they became a fad.

The less niche something is and the more commonly used something is, the easier it will become to obtain.

one of the biggest issues for autistic people is stigmatization and lack of accommodations.

the more Normal People do stuff that autistic people do, like, and need, THE BETTER LIFE GETS FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE, WHO NO LONGER NEED TO DISCLOSE THEIR STATUS AND GET INTO YET ANOTHER ARGUMENT ABOUT WHETHER THEY REALLY DO ACTUALLY DESERVE TO HAVE THE THING.

they can just go buy it at wal-mart and no one cares. it’s great.

miss piggy puts up with so much as a woman in show business and her response to misogyny is never to turn the other cheek or take the high road. it’s to physically attack people. and she’s right.

"gnc straight man being called a faggot doesn't experience homophobia" what the fuck are you talking about. there's absolutely no logic in anything like that. we have kids who literally killed themselves because of homophobic abuse in schools and you would dare to tell them it isn't homophobia that killed them because they weren't actually gay? insane. and so fucking cruel

I need some of y'all to remember this:

Oppression is not dictated by who you are, but by how the oppressor percieves you. You don't have to be a woman to be a victim of misogyny, you don't have to be gay to be a victim of homophobia.

bigots aren’t going to walk up to you and ask if you’re gay; they’re just going to jump straight in with their assumptions about you.

When a “funny” dude likes you and anytime he sees you anywhere he will be like “yoooo wassup it’s Jelissa!” (Or whatever) like “omg Miranda is here whaaaat” for literally no reason why do they do that

They are more likely to do this the more meek and shy they perceive you too. They are less likely to do this if they think you’re loud and confident. Idk what it is it’s not even necessarily bad or annoying it’s just like why.

This is a VERY sweet take and I hope it’s sometimes true

Okay I thought this behavior was annoying before but now it’s actually quite endearing thank you extroverts who want introverts to feel included.

There was a stoner I liked very much when I was playing age of Conan some ten or more years ago. He would roll up into the vent, yell my name and rip a fat one on mic before vanishing again. Always made me feel special. It was like a dog that would greet you by barking as loud as possible and wagging his tail so hard it leaves a dent in the wall when your car rolls up. Everyone was luke warm to cold on him but he was my fucking buddy and I loved him because he made me feel wanted which I sure as shit wasn’t getting at home!!

Eventually I made the decision to start emulating behaviors that made me feel happy and started doing that in other places. To this day my whole discord chants the nickname of whomever joins the call, like a pack of seagulls who just locked eyes on a delicious spare French fry. There’s nothing quite as amazing as walking into a room and hearing a chorus of loved ones drawing out your name like they were going to sweep you off your feet if they could, slash like a pack of feral dogs ready to bowl you the fuck over.

Caption: [Yesterday I went bowling. Uh we're getting ready to bowl and they need your shoe size to give you the correct bowling shoes. The person turns to me and in this very strange way is like "Okay, and what men's shoe size for you?".

And I panicked, so I said "A woman's size seven" because I wear a woman's size seven. And uh the person gets the shoes out and goes "You know, these are a men's five and a half" and like, I'm aware that a woman's seven is a men's five and a half.

But most places if you go up and you ask "Can I have a men's five and a half?" they send you to the children's section and that's a little harrowing for me. But its like, I've never been so savagely like correctly gendered in my life. Like, you know what king? Just because you have delicate little fairy feet does not mean you have to ask for women's size. You're still a man even if you have tiny little baby feet.]

You ever think about how unified humanity is by just everyday experiences? Tudor peasants had hangnails, nobles in the Qin dynasty had favorite foods, workers in the 1700s liked seeing flowers growing in pavement cracks, a cook in medieval Iran teared up cutting onions, a mom in 1300 told her son not to get grass stains on his clothes, some girl in the past loved staying up late to see the sun rise.

there are scriptures all over the world painstakingly crafted hundreds of years ago with paw prints and spelling mistakes or drawings covering up mistakes. a bunch of teenage girls 2000 years ago gathered to walk around their hometown, getting fast food and laughing with their friends. two friends shared blankets before people lived in houses. a mother ran a fine comb through her child’s hair and told it to stop squirming sometime in the 1000s. there are covered up sewing mistakes in couture dresses from the 1800s, some poor roman burnt their food so well past recognition that they just buried the entire pot. there are broken dishes hidden in gardens of people no one even remembers anymore
