for me, it keeps coming back the now deleted scene in anti-hero where taylor first openly used art about something that directly impacted her mental health. and i get why it would be triggering and uncomfortable to see a thin woman portray herself as "fat" on a scale. i understand the "problematic" edge to it. and yet... i still hate y'all for thinkpiecing her into deleting the scene. it was art about something that directly impacted HER mental health and folks felt entitled to tell her how she could make art about something that impacts HER. that HER MENTAL HEALTH was distressing them, could she pretty please censor it so it would stop triggering them.

like fuck y'all. i hope she never feels the need to censor herself again to cater to you fuck ass bitches. some of you DO need to be told you're being overbearing and entitled, sorry! you don't get to censor art just because you don't like who's making it or feel the person who made it isn't allowed to use art the way they used it.

I feel like the first half of TTPD is about the rage and the grief and the mania and the lust and all of the huge emotions that swirled through her in the immediate moments of the last 2 years. The second half is about all the little feelings and realizations and things she sat with afterwards and in-between the huge bombs going off in her life. The first half is just all the mess, laid out on the table. The second half is where she gets out a map and shows us how the paths connect to each other.

The Tortured Poets Department is a great reminder that women don't owe the world pretty. Taylor Swift doesn't owe anyone an easily digestible pretty pop album wrapped in a bow with short songs you can make TikToks to. She's allowed to present something raw, uncomfortable, and vulnerable to the world.

i do wonder if one of the reasons taylor reverts to high school metaphor so often (besides all the obvious ones...youth, americana, simplified social spheres) is because that was the last time she experienced life pre-fame

“And so I was out of the oven//And into the microwave//Out of the slammer and into a tidal wave” is actually the key to understanding the entire album and why it’s unclear which song is about which man

the most interesting part of this album is that it begs the question of why taylor must only tell stories that are palatable to us. people not liking matty doesn’t mean it happened any less. and just because people don’t want to hear it doesn’t mean she’s obligated not to tell it? idk, it’s just a really interesting thing to think about and is imo the genesis of the fame throughline on the album.

Fortnight featuring @postmalone 🤍 I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever. I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight. Honestly can’t wait for you guys to hear this song at Midnight TONIGHT and see the video at 8pm ET TOMORROW.
