You do know the Met Gala is a charity fundraiser for a non-profit organization working to preserve an art form that many take for granted, yes? The costume division gets no support from the Met and relies on the Gala for the bulk of their finances. It isn't rich people celebrating themselves, it's designers (who pay for the celebrities' tickets) donating to a non-profit museum to be able to continue sharing the history, appreciation, and preservation of their art form for another year.

I did not in fact know that! Makes me feel better about the whole thing. Though I still dislike those type of "high society"/ "social status" events with passion.
