Can you guess that I started watching the TV show iZombie? I’m on Season 2 now, and while I’m far too old and jaded for queerbaiting to work, oh my god this show!!! I CAN’T.  It is beautiful fun entertainment overall. And Major Lilywhite* and Ravi Chakrabarti can get it, aka each other.

Me & Liv Moore will be eating brains & watching like:

*yes, that really is the white guy’s name and it’s glorious LMAO.

I just want to remind everyone how affordable buying food from indigenous tribes is. I live in a major city and I was able to purchase and ship (15) pounds of fish from back home to myself for cheaper than I could buy it from a grocery store here in the city. Yeah, shipping has its own environmental factors but I was able to support an indigenous owned business while also getting my groceries at a lesser cost. (Buying in bulk is always a good idea if you’re planning on having something shipped to you)

Some tribal owned grocers that ship:

Tanka Bars (Oglala)

Twisted Cedar Wine (Cedar Paiutes)

Seka Hills Olive Oil and Vinegars (Yocha Dehe Wintun)

Honor the Earth (? Anishinaabe)

Nett Lake Wild Rice (Boise Forte Anishinaabe)

Passamaquoddy maple (Passamaquoddy)

BONUS: coffee :)

Yeego Coffee (Navajo)

Spirit Mountain Roasting (Yuma Quechan)

Birchbark Coffee (Anishinaabe)

“Canada likes to present itself as, historically, a safe haven for Black people escaping slavery in the United States. However, the institution of slavery existed here until 1833 and was followed by an era of Jim Crow like segregation. There have been centuries of overrepresentation of Black people in state run institutions of confinement. White supremacy, as an institution in Canada, was shaped by the enslavement of Black people. In the almost two centuries since the abolition of slavery, Black people have been consistently criminalized, policed, and harmed by the state and civil society. Following Canadian Confederation in 1867, colonization and settlement continued to rapidly spread west of Ontario. Along with the establishment of the North-West Mounted Police and the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, penitentiaries were constructed to extend Canadian law and assert colonial jurisdiction in the west.”

Black-Owned Bookstores to Support Right Now (and Always)

“Being an antiracist reader means not only educating ourselves, but also paying attention to the institutions we support financially.

We put together a list of Black-owned independent bookstores, thanks in part to this Twitter thread and AfroTech’s list of 10 Black-owned online bookstores to support while at home…”

When I was trying to get back into drawing last year, for some reason Johnny and Moira Rose were my subject of choice.  I drew this and then never posted it.  I wanted to just draw something to see if I could, for myself.

It’s not the best and its unfinished, but in the spirit of Schitt’s Creek sweeping all them fancy TV awards, I found it again!  Congrats to Schitt’s Creek!

any photoshop-equivalent recs?

So it looks like Adobe finally cottoned on to my CS6 and now it won’t open without requiring log-in or subscription or whatever nonsense, eurgh blah.

I guess it’s finally time for me to try a new drawing program. (Insert obligatory mourning over using Pshop for half my life, change is hard, etc).

Can anyone rec any drawing program good for an old Win 10 laptop, compatible with a super-old Intuos?  I tried Gimp many years ago and didn’t like it, but maybe it’s better now.  Any advice would be very helpful.

Ugh I feel discouraged.  But thanks, peeps.  <3

Luckily, there are a lot of options out there!

I know a LOT of people who swear by Clip Studio Paint (aka MangaStudio) and having used it a bit myself, I can confirm it is good…and also has a pretty steep/frustrating learning curve.  In part this is BECAUSE it works very similar to photoshop….except for the points where it doesn’t.  However if you go into it with this in mind, I think you’ll find it meets your needs pretty well and the price point is not unreasonable.  It’s also on sale pretty frequently.

I personally like to use Paint Tool Sai, which is really cheap ($50) and while it doesn’t have the broad functionality of Photoshop, it does do a really good job when it comes to its brushes and having them feel natural.  Honestly, I prefer it to Photoshop for painting and I like that it’s very stripped down and minimal.  That said, if you need to do a lot of color correction or rely on some of the more fancy photoshop features, CSP is probably a better option.

Honestly, if you just google photoshop alternatives, I think you’ll turn up a lot of things which might be worth trying and even the stuff that isn’t free will at least let you have a trial period to see if it works for you.

Good luck in your search and sorry Adobe is the worst

Ahhh thank you for the recs!  Learning curve, I think, is my biggest obstacle at this point.  Just gotta mentally convince myself that it’ll be fun trial and error, discovering something new and wrangling it to do what I want. XD

Clip Studio Paint (what a name, haha) looks like a good thing to try out, and if it goes on sale during holiday season, even better.

Thank you @melisusthewee and @stupidlullabies for the confirmation as well!  <3 You guys always have my back and ilu.

Based very loosely on an anon I saw on @yusufnicolo‘s tumblr that said: ‘apparently in the comics nile was planning to go to art school after leaving the army and now i can't stop thinking about her asking yusuf to teach her more’
And I was like kfjsdkjfsk Nile is artistic!!!! and dkjfskfjhsdkfh Joe falls back on his favourite subject matter for his and Nile’s art-time.
