little blog of little doodles

@hapuki-blog / hapuki-blog.tumblr.com

Hey there! Call me Hapuki or Happy, expect to see some drawings of animal crossing, anthros, humans, animals, gendenders, bishies... Pretty much anything that makes me happy. xD I also typically depict myself either as my pink fox fursona or as my human self xD

HOLY FREE ART PROGRAMS BATMAN

I’ve had this list sitting around for a while (in case I ever want to try something new) and I thought I’d share it, because why the hell not, everybody loves free stuff. I’ve only used a couple, so for all I know these could be complete shit. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW, RIGHT?

*= available for both windows and mac os

GIMP * - Does a lot of the same stuff as Photoshop.

FireAlpaca * - Similar to Paint Tool Sai, so it’s a good alternative for Mac users.

Autodesk Sketchbook Copic Edition * - Simulates the look of copic markers.

MyPaint * - Basic stuff, nothing fancy.

Pinta * - Drawing program modeled after paint.NET.

Inkscape * - Vector/drawing program meant to be similar to Illustrator.

ArtRage * - Digital painting program; you can get the trimmed down version for free or buy the full version with more features.

Sumo Paint * - In-browser drawing app.

DAZ Studio * - Some sort of 3D model poser thing.

Pencil * - Software for animating.

SketchUp * - Tool for making 3D models. Looks handy for stuff like architectural drawings.

Blender * - Pretty popular 3D software.

escape motions * - Some browser apps, fun to fiddle with when you’re bored (the fluid fire simulation is pretty cool imo).

Twistedbrush (Pixarra) - Seems to be meant for replicating the look of traditional media.

Pixia/Phierha - A popular program in Japan, according to the website.

Krita - This was originally made for Linux and it looks like the developers haven’t ironed out all of the kinks in the Windows installer.

Artweaver - Another trimmed down free thing if you don’t want to buy the full program.

paint.NET - Pretty basic kit, probably good for simple stuff.

Project Dogwaffle - I’m not sure what this one is all about because I couldn’t stop laughing at the terrible website.

Speedy Painter - Lightweight digital painting program.

mtPaint - Originally made for pixel art; simple enough to run on older computers.

Chasys Draw IES - Supposed to be some sort of drawing+image editor thing.

PaintRibbon - Seems to be another plain old basic image editor.

DrawPlus - Looks like it’s made for graphic design and vector stuff.

SmoothDraw - I’m guessing this is a basic thing for people who don’t want to bother with complicated stuff.

Just wanted to say that you're my favorite reviewer/analyst in the community and I love watching your videos on youtube. I actually have a dream to draw for you someday believe it or not- either a title card, a graphic you'd want done for whatever or even making sprites- really anything to show my support! :D You can check out my askswanandtricks blog if you wanna see more of my -inconsistent- style. Hope to hear from ya soon! :)

I AM always looking for titlecard artists! If you’re interested, and aren’t bothered by sometimes having to work under short notice, I can for sure keep you in mind for future videos.

Ok here is a compilation of all the software and useful tools I’ve come across whilst writing. Some of them I’ve reviewed on here already, more coming soon.

Got an idea? Well get planning! Here’s some useful outlining, brainstorming and mind- mapping software:
Just want to get writing? You want a word processor:
Making notes? Here you go:
Timelines giving you a headache? Try these:
Now perhaps you want to organise those notes. Got a lot of research? Character sheets? Images? Well here’s some tools to keep all that together:
Are you easily distracted? The following tools will keep you on track:
Even more productivity tools to help keep you focussed on your task:
So you’ve got something down? Need to edit?
All done? Perhaps you’d like some e-publishing tools:
I’m feeling generous, have some more cool stuff:

Enjoy! I may update the list as I find more, or I’ll make a second list.

OMGsuhgdsgsg Icks!!!! LOOK LOOK AT WHAT YOU DREW IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL AND DETAILED!!! The plant in the bottle in the forground is a lovely touch- it gives the illusion that I’m really spying on them e/v//e The lighting is great, the coloring is superb and oh my goodness you made Orchid such a handsome guy <3333 And I always admired your expressions I’m pretty sure I’ve said it before but I can’t say it enough!!! I admire and appreciate every detail and effort you put into completing it Icks- and I still can’t get over that you decided to include Orchid baby ;////; You’re the sweetest Icks ever!!

Work-in-progress of a picture from the Witchcraft!AU which, depending on how I think things through, might end up being its own story someday!  For now, here’s a picture of Orchid Spell, hapuki‘s deer oc, as a flora-based magician giving Ickle some pointers. (He’s probably helping her figure out how to grow tomatoes without Mudpie’s groundwater experiments destroying them.)

Also another thing to add–given the intense use of hands in witchcraft, I’m guessing that each user has some sort of growth/stain/derezzing. It’s a good way for magic users to tell who’s a user and who isn’t, and who uses what.
