There's a thing that never ceases to surprise me and is the first reaction to being inside the Colosseum most people have vs. archeologists/classical philologists and such.
(Note: this reaction is based on me, my classmates and colleagues I've met here in my country, which has always taken extra care of the patrimony here.)
Most people are amazed.
The first time I was there I felt... Very sad, to be honest. The place was vandalized. To an extent that can't be excused with time or wars or whatever the hell was allowed to let happen there.
I've been several time to Tarraco's amphitheater and it's in✨such a good state✨ even though that place has gone (and still is) through, ehem, really bad phases.
“But you can't compare Rome to Tarraco. It's not as big/important.” 'Course I can. You can't just start taking care of the patrimony if it starts getting rentable. There's still people engraving their names on the walls of the Colosseum and taking pieces of it with them when there. Like what.
Also, I hope it always isn't like the time I visited the Pantheon but... It didn't have security. Not even a single guard.
Honestly, I don't know if it's like this in every country or we're very strict with the patrimony here but... Oh my god, help. Someone from Italy please enlighten me about what's going on.
i am a latin/ancient greek philologist and i’m italian but i just. read this two or three times and i still don’t understand. of course the colosseum is vandalized, it’s over 2000 years old and it’s in a LIVING city. it has graffiti on it because people from all ages ranging from ancient to modern passed by and left graffiti because it’s a normal human behavior. aside the fact that i don’t think there should be guards in an archaeological site, do you think guards would be able to prevent entitled tourists from vandalizing/stealing stuff?? millions of people come and go every year, not even a thousand cameras would prevent damage from happening. the pantheon doesn’t have security because it’s literally a church. i don’t even remotely understand what the problem is here. ancient buildings are something you LIVE with, they’re not something you can put in a display case in a museum

a peep was asking for a TodoDeku version of the extrovert shield but I didn’t really see Izuku as an extrovert, and he didn’t quite fit in my brain as an introvert so ambivert he is I guess lol-
I had the MiriTama version bouncing in my brain so here they are too + KiriBaku in uniform to fit the theme haha
