✨Dragon Poll!🐉

For the purposes of this poll, “Harry Potter” does NOT COUNT as a valid answer. If it is the media that introduced dragons into your life, ignore it and please enter the next media with dragons that came into your life after HP.

IF you first heard of dragons somewhere else, please SPECIFY the name of that media IN THE NOTES. I was going to add an “Other (please specify in notes/tags)” but I have apparently run out of available answers. Also it seems I’m only able to run the poll for a week maximum, so that’s how long it’ll run. I hope to have fun with your answers :)

I'd love to hear your thoughts about the dragons from the Spiderwick books

I’ve never read the books proper, but I have read the guide, so I can give my opinions on those two at least.

I actually like the designs a lot. Especially the wyvern, which has this sort of iguana-bat design going on.

The wyrm also has a lot of lizard in it, especially in how the feet/toes are.

Honestly, I should probably read this series.

Few land-living hunters venture here. But one does. A type of dinosaur, Velociraptor. Their bodies are kept warm by feathers, but they can’t fly. They are, however, exceptionally agile. And just as well, one false step here could bring disaster.

Dundee Dragon

Name: Dundee Dragon

Type: Myth

Culture of Origin: Scotland

Description: The statue shows a fairly typical European Dragon.

Myth: Once a farmer had nine daughters, and he sent each of them to the well to fetch water. When they didn’t return, he sent the next, until all his daughters were gone. Finally going himself, he found that his daughters had been devoured by a dragon.

Heartbroken, he went to Martin, the lover of his youngest daughter, who went and slew the dragon.

Facts:

  • In addition to the statue, two dragons are also featured on Dundee’s coat of arms.
  • The dragon was killed at the base of Craigowl Hill.
  • A surviving rhyme is said to be the last words of the dragons:
  • Tempted at Pitempton
  • Draigled at Baldragon
  • Stricken at Strathmartine
  • And killed at Martin’s Stane
  • A Pictish stone is said to depict this fight.
