you ever think a post is going to be like, surprise! It was the plot of a movie the whole time! And then reality is just actually that wild. Wild.

That guest of Sen. Dean Heller is none other than known Nazi Peter Cvjetanovic. It would be a shame if the electorate in Nevada found out about this from the asshole who said he wouldn’t take away healthcare and then voted to repeal it anyway.

Friendly reminder that this jackass also voted for Kavanaugh and is running in a tight race for senate against Jacky Rosen:

A gentle reminder that Jacky Rosen is a Jewish woman. She was the former president of her shul and also has specifically cited tikkun olam (repairing the world) as one of the reasons she decided to enter politics. If that is Peter Cvjetanovic in the photo with Senator Heller, her running against a white supremacist at worst, a host to white supremacists at best is more than just beating the Nazi. It’s a Jewish woman winning against an Amalekite.

I remember years ago listening to a doctor speak on the radio and something stuck with me ever since. I’m paraphrasing but the gist was this:

When someone who has been sad, distant, not themselves for a while suddenly starts going out of there way to see people, often giving them gifts or possessions don’t assume they got ‘better’. This is the time to really ask them if they are okay; to reach out and not simply accept the answer of ‘fine’ or ‘great’ or ‘never better’. Because for some people the relief of having made the decision to end their life can make them happy, euphoric even.
He pointed out that often this change in the person is such a relief to their friends and family after having seeing someone they love suffer, they just don’t realise what has caused the change and frankly they don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ because they are just so happy to have the person they love ‘back’. But in reality, the person they love is saying goodbye.

During the interview, he told the story of a colleague (back when he had a factory job before he became a doctor) who had been depressed for a long time. One day he came in and was really happy, people kept commenting on how good it was that he wasn’t sad and grumpy anymore. He gave people some of his things, took people to lunch. Went home and killed himself.

He explained that when the police came to talk to people, they told him it was a common story they heard “but they were so much better.”

So be there for your friends and family. Tell them what they mean to you. Let them talk to you without fear of judgement. LISTEN. Suggest people get help if you think they need it.

Finally, let me add: The world will not be better off without you in it. You matter. You will be missed. Please don’t harm, hurt or kill yourself.

I want to be this much of a bad ass when I’m 77 years old:

“I’m 77-and-a-half years old and I hate the destruction of democracy in this province,” this woman says while being escorted out by two security guards.”

Context:

Another photo (Chris Young/ Canadian Press):

Her name is Ester Reiter:

“Ester Reiter lived through discrimination as a Jew in Cold War America, marched to protest the Vietnam War with two babies in tow, and visited a mass grave in a southern Poland forest where her grandparents, aunts and uncles were likely murdered in the Holocaust.

When she woke up on Wednesday morning, the 77-year-old didn’t hesitate to stand up for what she says is another great injustice — the Ontario government passing legislation that a judge ruled violates the Constitution.

[…]

“How I honour my identity as a Jew is to get my ass out and protect everybody, to protect the rights and freedoms of everybody and really try to struggle against any injustice,” she said.”

I fucking love this woman. We should all take a page out of her book and get our asses out there as well.

This post got better

Quick summary of the issue that she’s actually protesting bc it’s kind of unclear in this post:  A conservative politician named Doug Ford wants to cut the Ontario city council down from 47 members to 25 members in the middle of a major election.  His purported reasoning is that less members will make the council more efficient. However, many people, including former mayer David Miller, believe that he just wants to get rid of council members who he does not like. A judge ruled that this whole thing was unconstitutional, but Doug Ford responded that he was going to do it anyway by enacting a notwithstanding clause (an override). Understandably, many people are very angry about this.

This is why baby boomers think we can pay for school while having a part time job

If you were curious, that’s $714.33 in 2018 numbers.

It’s also approximately what I make for two weeks’ Labor.

When I started college the first time in 1987, my full load (12 credits) tuition  at the local community college was less than $400 per semester.  When I had to pay THREE credits out of pocket for my BSN at a local university two years ago, it cost me $1492. That is two weeks take home for me, as an 9 years working registered nurse, working full time on night shift.

I totally get it.
