RE that post about Scottish Standard English from a while back, what's the issue with writing dialogue phonetically?
Because it’s painful to read and comes across as a bit disrespectful when someone is trying to write a Scottish character but doesn’t care to try and learn Scots language.
Scots Wikipedia was basically sabotaged by an idiot American teenager who just wrote it phonetically.
#i just think if you wouldnt spell something phonetically in your day to day life then just dont do it#i am scottish born and bred and have lived here all my life but my knowledge of Scots is poor because it's trained out of us#i still use scots-isms in written labguage bc that's just how i speak#saying things like youse and gid and cutting off gs in '-ing' words because thats an accurate representation of how i speak casually#and im a stubborn bastart who wants tae make space for my heritage in everyday life#but guess what cunts. we can tell when youse are talkin and typin oot yer arses#fake dialectical writing is immediately clockable and its so embarassing for u as the writer#don't do it!!!#talk 2 a real scottish person for once thanks#scots#(only those of us who have been called uneducated for speaking what we can salvage of our mother tongue are allowed to butcher it ok???)
