Aside from the surly concierge, Johnny’s amble across the grand motel’s entryway was eerily lonely and achingly still. Each rigid footfall rippled an echo between the muted columns, bouncing the sound back at him, forcing his head to jerk suspiciously over his shoulder. Expecting, hoping, for someone.
Yet, that was merely his paranoia haunting him like a shadow, and that was all. He shuffled away, eager to be free of the feeling of suffocating loneliness, and desperate, necessary isolation.
At the bar he found reason to halt, head curiously tilted as he studied the back of a stranger already occupying one of the bar stools. There was no one else. He thought that both a blessing and a curse — he had been dreaming of a woman, any woman, since he had found himself at the hotel; had there been one here… well, the stimulant in his veins might have edged him over a particular line he hadn’t dare cross just yet. This was better; safer.
Heavily, Johnny fell into the seat next to him.“What do you think about hypnosis?”
The Cortez was like a SIREN to the DAMNED, it beckoned both lost souls and foul creatures that were once discerned as fantasy. There was nothing Chad hasn’t seen the years TRAPPED here since that one mistaken night.
One he still returns to, maybe if he hadn’t gotten into that argument with Patrick they’d still both be LIVING, but perhaps this was their fate, why else would they both be led here? Then again he wasn’t one for believing in such things, but it helps on those weary and lonely days.
Though day’s mesh into one another as the years pass, awareness of time exists, the longing of any form of interaction that follows it is near unbearable considering the majority of those staying here have no topics to speak of that interest him. They’re always some form of interesting character, but the entertainment of that only lasts so long.
As the man settles beside him he can’t help but think this would be the same judging from his unkempt disposition, but he welcomes the possibility of being proven otherwise. So he’ll participate.
❛ I read somewhere that it only works if you allow it to. So in theory it would only work on those willing to believe it, which I’d have to agree on seeing that’s applicable on a number of things. ❜ Like his denial….
