hi, i have a ko-fi now.

the long and the short of it is, i have had to go down to part-time at my job due to my mental health. my income is now about half of my rent alone, and my expenses have only gone up since my cat got sick and had to be switched to prescription food. i was already in a lot of debt from having to do an emergency move to leave an abusive relationship back in 2022 as it was. i have a lot to lose now, and i'm scared, and i am asking for help.

i do want to try and give something in return for any help i receive, i'm just not sure yet what it will be. possibly proofreading? research? being a neutral party in a conflict? idk. i'm a man of many talents, none of which are particularly profitable.

if you can spare a few canadian dollars - which are worth about 75% of an american dollar - i would really, really appreciate it. if you are comfortable sharing, i would appreciate that as well, but you don't have to at all. i am still, at the end of the day, more privileged than a lot of other people on here, and i don't want to take from those who need it more than me.

My mom was having trouble using they/them prnouns with some friends for a while. One day she said “I think the problem is that I haven’t changed the way I view their gender outside of their pronouncs which adds several extra steps in converting binary pronouns to they/them then conjugating it. So I need to shift how I see them as a gendered person entirely to make using their pronouns easier.” And since then she hardly ever messes up.

This is literally why people mess up pronouns and why it’s a problem.

Like the reason you’re not calling me “they” is because you still think of me as gendered the way you initially assumed. It’s not just the pronouns I want you to change, they only serve as an acknowledgement of the gender I want you to adjust your perspective to. If you did that, you wouldn’t struggle with it.

This isn't why I'm struggling with your pronouns, it's because I literally don't understand gender and rely on a complex Autism Algorithm to determine what pronoun I use for someone and I have to reroute the little flow chart so that when [thinking about you] I utilize [correct pronoun] to refer to you instead of [calculated pronoun]. I don't MIND doing this, it just takes me a minute. I promise it's not because I still "think" you're a man or a woman because I don't fucking know what either of those actually mean.

(This is also why I have trouble with neopronouns, it's like trying to shove a CD into a cassette player. I'm gonna need a minute to find a workaround to how I usually do things.)

Tl;dr other people are transphobic ig but I'm just a huge bundle of Autism trying desperately to rely on context clues to figure out Why Neurotypicals for 35 years.
