Veyrra Character Redesigns

Posted over from the dev log on itch.io
I redid the character designs; some of them I only just finalised to a point where they could be designed (unfortunately being back and forth a lot I left characters on the back burner for MUCH longer than I should have) and many got a redesign due to being from RPG Maker content packs when they should really have their own individual look.
A brief word on…

Still untitled visual novel, Plus some Veyrra updates

So, to start off with I’m probably going to work on Veyrra’s battle system separately since it’s what seriously needs the most work at this point (I pretty much know what I’m doing for all the other systems. Everything else generally functions okay. The story’s still a bit iffy in parts, but I’m probably going to just slim it down and remove a lot of the extra pieces I wanted to do at this point)…

Update - What I've been up to

So, I’ve been working with Ren’Py for a bit now. I don’t really have anything substantial done yet. I think I have decided on what my first project is going to be, though (mostly because I just really want to work on the idea) I haven’t really thought of a title for it yet (I’m hoping to settle on that after I get more of the story done) I have gotten at least a start on designing the characters…

Unfortunate Impass

So, due to being at a bit of a block with Veyrra’s development (I’m seriously ready to just rip out the battle system and work on it separately at this point, though even doing that I’m not sure I’d fix all the problems with it) I’ve hit a bit of a more major snag.
I’m not sure if RPG Maker is really the right engine for me to be devloping in anymore.
Don’t get me wrong; I love using RPG Maker,…

Veyrra work sidelined till May; Further details contained

I stated before that I’m getting burnt out; well the reason I’m putting Veyrra aside now goes a bit beyond that. I’ve started volunteering at an elementary school which is taking a good portion of my time (I’m there the full time as an aid helping in whatever way I’m needed)
Veyrra is a very intensive project (especially since I’m doing pretty much all the work myself) so I don’t always have the…

Yes, I’m still alive. Yes, I’m still working on this game (much longer explaination of what I’ve been working on in the linked devlog) I’m going to be trying to make updates more often (especially after I pretty much remake the battle system since I pretty much had to change out everything except for the graphical scripts I was using for the most part)

As of right now, it’s running a lot more stable than it orginally was, though I don’t have everything placed back yet (I’m trying to slowly add things back in chunks so that I can easily trace where a problem is)

So I’m working on a short entry for the recent IGMC (it’s nowhere near done yet, of course, but I thought people might want to know about it)

I don’t really have a lot to show off yet (I’m trying to get all the mechanics finalized before getting to the story, though I am starting to implement the story so I don’t end up completely behind)

In case it isn’t clear, the video is testing out how the menu basically functions (I may add some labels to make it a bit more clear and a way to see the character status)

The story’s a bit of a mess at the moment (mostly because I’m figuring out what I’m going to implement) but the very basics is that it takes place in a world where the Dragon King’s power controls all... and unfortunately the current Dragon King is dying without a direct heir. (I’m not sure how much of this I’ll get to, but hopefully what I do will be able to build easily into the rest)

I may need some help with art, because currently I’m using busts for most of the characters except for the main. As of right now, I’m not sure if this is going to look weird (I might be able to play it off since I’m leaning towards doing a meta non-serious story and could probably think of a couple different ways to explain it)

If anyone does want to help out with the art, I’ll need it probably around Nov 22 just to make sure I can put it in before the end of the contest. (There’s only going to be about 6 characters total, and I don’t care if there isn’t emotions since it’s supposed to be short - up to only 1 hour)

Yo!

So, I've decided to side-line Veyrra for awhile (hopefully not indefinitely, but I am starting to get burnt out and it really doesn't seem like anyone is interested in it anymore)

I already have a couple other projects I want to work on, along with possibly starting a tutorial series over certain things I've done.

I know yet again I’ve been gone for ages, but I wrote an update going over the current changes I’ve been working on over on Veyrra’s itch.io page. I’d also like to know if anyone would be interested if I streamed the development process. I have a poll setup here, though feel free to say whether you would on this as well.

NOTE: This video is currently unlisted and probably not representative of how the game will actually look/sound when finished. I just wanted to make a test of the voice acting for the game.

A big thank you to  GamemastersXDSueshiRoll, and all the rest of the voice actors helping out (I’m hoping to make another video showing off more of the different characters soon)

I also have an artist on board, but it’s going to be awhile before the character art changes (and there may be quite a few changes coming. I’ll make sure to post those as they come)

I got the demo done and uploaded (I know it’s a little earlier than I said, but as I kept working I realized either the things I didn’t have completely done I didn’t have a fully settled design for yet, or were causing more problems than I could probably fix on my own within a week) It’s still a little buggy due to the whole update fiasco that happened recently (it’s using MV 1.5.2) as well as some misbehaving that I haven’t fully narrowed down yet.

It’s currently available on the Itch.io page (completely updated to reflect the new release) and on Game Jolt

I’ll probably take a bit of a break (at least from using the engine for this) for a bit, because it’s starting to look like I’ll need to learn a lot of javascript and may be doing tons of work on my own. (basically I need to do a quick re-evaluation) I also figured out part of what my weird health issues were; while I had the flu I forgot to take my anti-epilepsy medication which of course would leave me even more out  of it than usual. I probably still should go see a doctor, though.

I’m going to talk about some (personal) real issues for a moment; I haven’t been feeling too well lately, and I’m not entirely sure why. I did have some stain of the flu last week, but it was only for about 2-3 days (thankfully over a weekend) Unfortunately, I've been feeling extremely exhausted and out of it still, though I’m pretty sure it’s not flu related anymore. I’m going to still try to at least get a new demo out sometime next week, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to get everything that I need to get to done.

I’m also going to probably see if I can get to a doctor sometime soon since this is a bit worrying at this point.

Always need an abandoned subway in a modern setting (though this one serves an important plot purpose)

Also the demo went from a maybe to a definitely; it’ll be out by the start of the next month)

This isn’t quite like this was originally, but this is the scene that somehow got deleted from the game jam version (it was a more visual novel style event because I wasn’t sure how to map the throne room; decided it’d be harder for it to get deleted if it’s a full map)
