Can someone please unironically kill him already
Every so often, I remember that like 80% of Tumblr (myself included) was completely enraptured by a show where the big twist was that the main character forgot his childhood friend was murdered by his sister, and for some reason only remembers his childhood friend ever existing as a dog.
And in that same episode it’s revealed that the same sister…..like…..hypnotized (?) the main character’s arch rival into hating him by, like, staring at him for a few minutes.
In our collective defense, this is when we all decided “hey we should probably stop watching Sherlock”
god i wish that were me
Wait What?
series 3 of sherlock: john marries mary morstan off-camera, the show mocks all the fans who kept the hype up during a two year hiatus, mary turns out to be an assassin who shoots sherlock, during which time he has a near-death-experience dream about his dog redbeard who was put down. also there’s a weird scene where john is revealed to be attracted to danger and so he dated mary because he was subconsciously picking up the fact that she used to be an assassin. also the series ends with sherlock committing murder in front of witnesses to save john and mary.
christmas special: sherlock goes on a bender where he hallucinates a victorian-era case, the episode ends with moriarty seemingly returning via social media and mycroft making a cryptic reference to “the other one.” oh, also any consequences from sherlock committing murder are immediately negated.
series 4: HOO BOY.
episode 1: mary is killed due to her assassin past, but no one really cares since she’s only been in the show for all of four episodes. she keeps coming back as a recorded voice/hallucination.
episode 2: john goes to a new grief counseler. also he keeps hallucinating mary. sherlock is told to solve a murder by the murderer’s daughter, but it turns out that while the murderer has a daughter, it’s not the woman who gave him the case to solve! eurus, sherlock and mycroft’s sister, has simultaneously masqueraded as john’s grief counseler and the murderer’s daughter and a random woman who keeps following sherlock because she’s a master of disguise! (to be fair, this is a legitimately cool reveal and I genuinely didn’t see it coming)
episode 3: HOO. FUCKING. BOY. eurus is sherlock and mycroft’s sister who’s been in a prison for the criminally insane for decades. mycroft has withheld this knowledge from both sherlock and their parents by claiming she died in a fire she started. turns out she’s able to hypnotize people with ???? her superior intellect ???????? and so even talking to her makes people want to do things for her like commit murder ????????? and so she’s somehow able to do things like escape from her scary island prison and then take herself back, blow up baker street, kidnap multiple people, and then pull Saw-esque morality problems on Mycroft and Sherlock and John where she just murders people for funsies with no apparent motive. IT IS DURING THIS SEQUENCE THAT IT IS REVEALED THAT SHERLOCK HAD A HUMAN BEST FRIEND THAT EURUS MURDERED BUT REWROTE HIS OWN MEMORIES TO IMAGINE IT WAS A PET DOG WHO DIED.
Y’ALL. IT IS SO DUMB. IT IS SO DUMB THAT THE FANDOM GENUINELY HAD A CONSPIRACY THEORY GOING FOR A WHILE THAT THERE HAD TO BE A SECRET FOURTH EPISODE - OF A SHOW THAT ONLY EVER HAD THREE EPISODES PER SERIES - BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY THAT SOMETHING THAT BAD COULD BE THE FUCKING FINAL EPISODE.
I am so grateful to this post for vindicating my decision never to watch s4
1. I wish I was you.
3. Everything in this post is real
NO
In the one hundred fifty days after October 7, Israel killed thirty-one thousand Palestinians, injured seventy-two thousand, displaced 1.7 million, and razed or damaged more than half of Gaza’s buildings. Joe Biden sent over one hundred weapons shipments to Israel during the same stretch. In a recent classified briefing, US officials told members of Congress that the Biden administration approved and delivered more than one hundred separate weapons sales to Israel in the one hundred fifty days after October 7, “amounting to thousands of precision-guided munitions, small diameter bombs, bunker busters, small arms and other lethal aid,” the Washington Post reported on Wednesday. That works out to one new arms deal every thirty-six hours, on average.

Some things I think people are overlooking in the tiktok ban bill, because it's not just a tiktok ban:
- It gives the US government to ban *any* app, website, or company they believe to be "controlled" by an "adversarial power" which can change whenever they want
- It allows the President and the Administrative branch almost unilateral power to designate *any* app, website, or company to be under the control of an "adversarial power" (and just think about how thelat can be used un the hands of, say, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis)
- They have to offer little to no evidence for this. For example, tiktok - a Singaporean-headquartered and ran company, partially owned by US interests, incorporated in the Cayman Islands, and whose userdata is stored Austin, TX - is apparently controlled by the Chinese government
- It also gives the Federal Government the ability to investigate and shut down any provider who gives access to these banned websites or services, including VPN. They will have unilateral power to dismantle VPNs through outrageous fines what will essentially force them to not operate in the US
- A lot of the Congressional Representatives who supported this bill have large donors and/or stock in US Tech companies like Meta, Google, or Palantier who would benefit from the downfall of tiktok or the ability to purchase it and monopolize the market
- Those same tech companies which sell our data constantly anyway, including to "adversarial powers"
This is so much more than just a tiktok ban.
I remember reading a study once that asked people in their 90s to rank the best to worst decades of their life, and the overwhelming majority were like “my 70s were the best” and ranked their teens and twenties as near the worst, and I think about that a lot when people act like if they’re not living their best life at 25 they’ve lost their chance. like nah, the longer you’ve had to learn about yourself, the more you can love yourself. there’s no expiration date on joy until you’re dead
In contrast with professional drag queens, who were only playing at being women onstage, [Esther] Newton learned that the very bottom of the gay social hierarchy was the province of street queens. In almost total contrast to professional queens, street queens were "the underclass of the gay world." Although they embraced effeminacy, too, they did so in the wrong place and for the wrong reason: in public and outside of professional work. As a result, Newton explained, the street queens "are never off stage. Their way of life is collective, illegal, and immediate." Because they didn't get paid to be feminine and were locked out of even the most menial of nightlife jobs, Newton observed that their lives were perceived to revolve around "confrontation, prostitution, and drug 'highs'." Even in a gay underworld where everyone was marked as deviant, it was the sincere street queens who tried to live as women who were punished most for what was celebrated-and paid-as an act onstage. When stage queens lost their jobs, they were often socially excluded like trans women. Newton explained that when she returned to Kansas City one night during her fieldwork, she learned that two poor queens she had met had recently lost their jobs as impersonators. Since then, they had become "indistinguishable from street fairies," growing out their hair long and wearing makeup in public-even "passing" as girls in certain situations," in addition to earning a reputation for taking pills. They were now treated harshly by everyone in the local scene. Most people wouldn't even speak to them in public. Professional drag queens who didn't live as women still had to avoid being seen as too "transy" in their style and demeanor. One professional queen that Newton interviewed explained why: it was dangerous to be transy because it reinforced the stigma of effeminacy without the safety of being onstage. "I think what you do in your bed is your business," he told Newton, echoing a middle-class understanding of gay privacy, "[but] what you do on the street is everybody's business."
The first street queen who appears in Mother Camp is named Lola, a young Black trans girl who is "becoming a woman,' as they say'." Newton met Lola at her dingy Kansas City apartment, where she lived with Tiger, a young gay man, and Godiva, a somewhat more respectable queen. What made Godiva more respectable than Lola wasn't just a lack of hormonal transition. It was that Godiva could work as a female impersonator because she wasn't trying to sincerely live as a woman. Lola, on the other hand, was permanently out of work because being Black and trans made her unhireable, including in female impersonation. When Newton entered their apartment, which had virtually no furniture, she found Lola lying on "a rumpled-up mattress on the floor" and entertaining three "very rough-looking young men." These kinds of apartments, wrote Newton, "are not 'homes.' They are places to come in off the street." The extremely poor trans women who lived as street queens, like Lola, "literally live outside the law," Newton explained. Violence and assault were their everyday experiences, drugs were omnipresent, and sex work was about the only work they could do. Even if they didn't have "homes," street queens "do live in the police system."
As a result of being policed and ostracized by their own gay peers, Newton felt that street queens were "dedicated to "staying out of it" as a way of life. "From their perspective, all of respectable society seems square, distant, and hypocritical. From their 'place' at the very bottom of the moral and status structure, they are in a strategic position to experience the numerous discrepancies between the ideals of American culture and the realities." Yet, however withdrawn or strung out they were perceived to be, the street queens were hardly afraid to act. On the contrary, they were regarded by many as the bravest and most combative in the gay world. In the summer of 1966, street queens in San Francisco fought back at Compton's Cafeteria, an all-night venue popular with sex workers and other poor gay people. After management had called the police on a table that was hanging out for hours ordering nothing but coffee, an officer grabbed the arm of one street queen. As the historian Susan Stryker recounts, that queen threw her coffee in the police officer's face, "and a melee erupted." As the queens led the patrons in throwing everything on their tables at the cops-who called for backup-a full-blown riot erupted onto the street. The queens beat the police with their purses "and kicked them with their high-heeled shoes." A similar incident was documented in 1959, when drag queens fought back against the police at Cooper's Donuts in Los Angeles by throwing donuts-and punches. How many more, unrecorded, times street queens fought back is anyone's guess. The most famous event came in 1969, when street queens led the Stonewall rebellion in New York City. Newton shares in Mother Camp that she wasn't surprised to learn it was the street queens who carried Stonewall. "Street fairies," she wrote, "have nothing to lose."
Jules Gill-Peterson, A Short History of Trans Misogyny
hey everyone, I don't use tumblr very much but i heard there was some level of support for each other here.
My name is Ulysses, I am a trans indigenous lesbian who organizes and serves in my community in "Tacoma". on March 8th, I came out to see my car had been taken from the parking lot at my apartment building. It has been wrongfully repossessed by my original lender in California from when I originally bought it 4 years ago.
I use my car for so many things; to escape the world, to make desperately needed extra income, to give rides to members of my community, to drive 45 minutes to work as a caretaker, and at times, even to sleep and live part-time in. To get my car back, I am being asked for 1,700 by the original lender to cover "fees and repossession cost" potentially not including whatever fees the lot decides to charge. I am also asking for help recuperating some of the income I have been unable to make while waiting to regain possession of my car.
Thank you so much to all the members of my community who have helped and continue to help me stay afloat. I don't have any photos of the outside of my car because my phone with years worth of pictures broke, but have used some I have taken inside of it at different moments when I have found peace in the front seat.
Hello everyone, the US Senate is conducting a survey to get the opinions of people on issues such as a ceasefire in Palestine, America funding Israel’s weapons, and the TikTok ban. Please share and take the survey, let your voices be heard. (Non Americans can participate )
This survey is NOT BEING RUN BY THE SENATE.
I am begging you to read the website URL. It is being run by Republican Senator Thom Tillis. His name is IN THE URL.
He is a senator who violently opposes everything that left-leaning people support. This survey is being done for campaign research so he knows how to pitch his campaign to get people on his side. Filling this out is helping republicans with free campaign research.
THIS SURVEY IS NOT BEING DONE BY THE SENATE. THAT IS WHY THE QUESTIONS ARE FRAMED SO BLATANTLY BIASED.
Fans celebrate the casting of Nichelle Nichols as Uhura as a moment for actors of color, which they should be.
But I also wanted to spotlight the casting of these iconic secondary characters, seen in episodes of TOS.
Percy Rodriguez was cast as flag officer Commodore Stone, who was Kirk's superior in the chain of command. Stone is one of the officers that presides over Kirk's court martial.
Booker Bradshaw was the original Dr M'Benga, seen in two episodes of TOS. at the time, M'Benga was Starfleet's first and only medical specialist in Vulcan Physiology, having spent a year's residency on Vulcan.
One of the finest minds in computer technology in the 23rd century, and creator of the duotronic computer, Dr Richard Daystrom, was played by William Marshall, who's work in Shakespeare, and his roles as Paul Roebson and Frederick Douglass, added to the gravitas of his portrayal.
A flag officer, a specialist in Vulcan medicine, and one of the finest minds in a field of technology, played by actors of color, during the turbulent 1960s.
i still can't get over the sheer AUDACITY of iroh going to ba sing se. like did it work? yes. but ONLY because the dai li was too busy following around some bald kid looking for his dog to notice him
like i cannot emphasize enough how fucking stupid this plan was. the siege of ba sing se ended 5 years ago. people know what iroh looks like, to the point where he once got recognized by a random army captain at a hot spring and almost got his hands broken about it. and yet he rolls up to a city that has a vested interest in recognizing him and secret police force with zuko. zuko. like i could buy that no normal citizen would look at their tea shop guy and assume he was secretly an evil general, okay. but it's one thing to just be Mushi from the Tea Shop With an Unfortunate Resemblance to General Iroh, and another fucking thing entirely when Lee the Tea Server Who Looks Weirdly Similar to Prince Zuko is standing right next to him literally twenty-four seven!! like at least get different jobs hello????
every decision iroh makes is the decision of a man fully prepared to commit to the bit. will this succeed? who knows. but it will be very funny if i pull it off
tiktok objectively sucks in a lot of ways but I will admit that getting to witness thousands of allegedly heterosexual young women have an identity crisis in real time after attending Olivia Rodrigo's Guts tour is both a) not something I'm seeing on tumblr and b) an absolutely magical experience
ok so, the Guts World Tour Heterosexuality Crisis (tm). There's basically three key elements here.
First off: Olivia Rodrigo. You guys know Olivia Rodrigo right? Drivers License, Vampire, Good 4 U, Brutal: tons of high-charting hits. Easily one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now. Olivia is a former Disney Channel star. To this day, a lot of her diehard fans are people who've been following her since her Disney Channel days. So a significant percentage of her fanbase are people who were watching the disney channel in the year of our lord Two Thousand And Also Nineteen - i.e. pre-teen to teenage girls who are possibly a tad sheltered.
Since leaving The Mouse behind, Olivia's musical output has not exactly been Disney Appropriate, but you might not immediately know that if you haven't listened to the albums. Olivia isn't like Miley Cyrus where she hit 18 and immediately needed to let everyone know she FUCKS. Being "No Longer Kid Friendly" isn't part of her branding. So a lot of parents, even the more conservative ones, are still willing to take their daughters to an Olivia Rodrigo concert even as her content has gotten more mature since her High School Musical days.
The third component of this situation is Chappell Roan. During her rise to pop stardom, Olivia has worked hand-in-hand with a guy named Dan Nigro (don't worry it's pronounced "NYE-grow"). He's handled production on both of her albums and has gotten some pretty significant critical acclaim for his work. Well it just so happens that Dan's other main partner in crime when it comes to pop music is Chappell Roan- a campy, bisexual singer-songwriter who's been on the come up over the past year after a couple big tiktok hits and a sold-out headlining tour. This connection has given Chappell the opportunity to open for Olivia on the first leg of her world tour this year, which is an interesting choice because Chappell Roan is very decidedly not kid friendly. Her music is very overtly sexual and very, very overtly gay.
I give you all this background so that I can properly set up the absolute perfect storm of lesbian awakenings that is Olivia packing entire arenas full of sheltered teenage girls only to hit them right out the gate with a self-described Drag Queen singing about getting eaten out in the passengers seat and developing a big gay crush on your bff, dropping lines like "I heard you like magic? I got a wand and a rabbit!" and doing what I could only describe as "bouncing and moaning on it" during the bridge for My Kink is Karma. I really cannot overemphasize how funny this is as a big fan of Chappell - her solo concerts are gatherings of every femme lesbian in a 30 mile radius. She was sapphic tiktok's best kept secret. Olivia exposing her audience of normies to her is sending a lot of them into a full-on crisis of sexuality. The goddamn Disney Channel girlies are being forced to ponder kissing other girls it has never been more joever for heterosexual women than it is right now
No offence but I think that you people really need to start thinking about The Implications for maybe like five seconds before you start making 10000 joke posts about how jews own the entirety of new york
Saying this as someone who supports palestine myself I think that some of you need to stop & consider some history before you start being "pro palestine" by making completely unrelated jokes about how jewish people are truly in control in america. or before you start ranting about how all jewish people are suspiciously wealthy and/or control the media on a post that doesn't mention israel at all. just a suggestion
