Old Habits -- Season 5, Alexandria Open

Michonne saw the teen flinch and froze. “Shit—” she muttered before she could catch herself. If the people of Alexandria didn’t think their group were crazed lunatics who’d spent too much time with the undead already, they’d certainly think so now that she had almost threatened one of their daughters with a katana. “Sorry. Still a little jumpy I guess,” Michonne apologized, flashing a sincere smile. “I’m Michonne.” She moved her hand from her katana and waved a small hello. “You always up this late?”

“I get it.” Jennifer said with a small smile. “You were out there a long time, right? Can’t expect you to just be adaptin’ to this place so soon.”

She gave a shrug at her question. “Usually, don’t always walk ‘round though.” She was silent before looking up to Michonne almost desperately. “Please don’t tell my dad. I’m not supposed to be out this late and he doesn’t like when I don’t do as I’m told.”

You were out there a long time, right? Can’t expect you to just be adaptin’ to this place so soon.”

Michonne nodded, inwardly relieved that she wouldn’t have to explain herself too much. Some of the Alexandrians had no idea just what it was like out there, and he wasn’t in a mood to play teacher.

“Who’s your dad?” she asked. It wasn’t unreasonable for her dad to not want her wandering around at night, but something in the girl’s demeanor was... off about him. “I don’t think I’ve met him before.”

The shiny badge caught his attention. Rick had donned one just the same. And for a moment he had to wonder why it was that this place was simply handing out power like it was going out of style. “Ready to clean up this town? Yippie ki-yay.” He muttered from where he sat in the living room taking apart an old computer router. It’s pieces spread across the table with several screw drivers set aside.

“Doesn’t look like it needs much cleaning,” Michonne replied under her breath. She understood what Deanna was doing, of course, why it was important not only to the town but especially to the rest of the group’s sense of purpose, but it didn’t make wearing the rent-a-cop windbreaker feel any less... forced for her personally. Even if she was trying not to show it.

She looked over Eugene’s pile of computer parts with raised brows. “Is this the job Deanna gave you?”

“People who aren’t insane usually don’t need to explain themselves,” Michonne spit through gritted teeth.

"Everything we, as people, do is for personal gain and why? Ultimately, it comes down to one thing. Survival. It’s human instinct to do whatever it takes to pull through. I’m not insane, I’m surviving. Maybe it’s you that is insane for not following our lead and doing the same. Just a thought."

“You’re not surviving once you’re more monster than man.” Michonne squared her jaw. “Justify it how you want-- you’ve already given up, you just don’t know it.”

Alright so I just hit my first milestone rather quickly— started it November 9th of 2014. I have to admit it’s a little disconcerting, but ya know what? It makes me happy to know that there are people who want to play with my mullet child. I don’t really have much to say as I didn’t really have a whole lot of expectations for Eugene beyond getting his muse out of my head and from there I have gathered a whole slew of people that enjoy his portrayal as much as myself. Enough of the ramblings, let’s get on with the thing.

I mean that— you ground me when I go on my random tangents, which are rather frequent especially when the fandom gets its panties in a twist, yet you ask nothing more from me in return. You’ve been one of my best supports and always there in my corner when I needed you most. And yes, you are an enabler encouraging person… that has given voice to a lot of my muses— this one included. I talk to you everyday and can honestly call you my best friend, which I have little to none of in this world, and if I’m being frank, I’d rather have just the one than a slew.
