@mikeymagee / mikeymagee.tumblr.com

This is a tumblr dedicated to black characters. I love fanfiction, and fanart that centers around blackness, in all its shapes and forms. I'm here for the black heroes, the black villains, the black antiheroes, the black queers, the black men and women and children who love themselves in all of their shapes and forms.

Star Trek fans just REFUSE to give Star Trek Discovery it's flowers.

A show with a Black female lead and wonderful LGBTQIA inclusion, and most comments seem to be HELL BENT on throwing shade. And it's been that way for years now.

So...can Star Trek fans stop acting like they're so above other fandoms when it comes to inclusion and diversity, because every time I read any of their comments, I get Iris West/Candace Patton flashbacks.

Quick question

Is anyone else's Youtube recommendation vids seem a little...Far right? Because it keeps recommending me Anti-trans, anti-BLM, anti immigration, Pro-Trump/right wing content creators.

Is anyone else having this problem?

White fans really don't like shit that doesn't center whites. We know this, but they don't care we know this about them.

Yeah, I mean, there's only a couple of those spam posts under Netflix's Barbie tweets so

Frankly, I hope those asholes don’t watch They Cloned Tyrone, because I’m not about to roll through these tags and see Nixon as their new “Bad Boy King” or whatever BS crap they say to justify stanning white supremacist, genocidal dicks.

Those mother fuckers can stay the FUCK away from They Cloned Tyrone.

I feel like Black cinema is having a moment...

First I saw The Little Mermaid 2023 in theaters

Then I saw Across the Spiderverse the week after

And now I just came back from watching The Blackening

And I’m probably going to watch They Cloned Tyrone when it premiers on Netflix.

I love the fact that we’re seeing so much Black representation across so many different genres. Shit, it wasn’t that long ago when studios wouldn’t even make Red Tails because there were too many Black people in it...

Avatar

You know what’s funny?

I was scrolling through twitter, minding my own business, when someone decided to fix their fingers to type that Miles Morales was representation done right, and that he gets lots of love because he’s not a "blackwashed” character like Halle Bailey’s Ariel...

And I’m just like...

First of all, let’s not try to use Miles Morales as a beating stick against another Black character. ‘Kay? Second, when Miles Morales was first introduced in 2011 he was HATED. I mean HATED HATED. Nerds wanted him gone as quickly as possible, he was blamed for Ultimate Peter Parker’s death, etc.

HE WAS NOT BELOVED WHEN HE FIRST APPEARED.

So all these fake ass nerds trying to act like Miles was loved and are now using him to throw shade at Halle’s Ariel (much like people tried to use Princess Tiana to throw shade as well) need to sit down.

And for the record, Miles was called “Blackwashed” he was called “raceswapped” He was called “forgettable” and people were convinced that after a year no one would even know who he was (much like everyone believes Halle’s Ariel will be forgotten) Miles was called every name in the book. JUST LIKE HALLE’S ARIEL.

All the shit that Halle’s Ariel is going through now, Miles went through back in 2011. So let’s not act like TLM is getting antiblack hatred because Ariel was “introduced incorrectly” or “Was pushed badly” because this is sounding like some respectability politics nonsense.

And just because I can, I’m gonna spam pics of them....

Anonymous asked:

Does everyone hate Riri Williams or is it just a bunch of losers on the internet who are hating her?

I was around when Riri Williams first showed up in comics, and people hated her before her first book was even released. Now that she's been introduced to mainstream audiences, I've seen a lot of people (both online and IRL) who tell me that hate her because she's a "Know it All" Mary-Sue, despite the fact that Tony Stark exhibtied the EXACT same traits.

Just sayin'.

It’s SO interesting how suddenly everyone hates the “I’m so much smarter than everyone in the room” Archetypes when it’s a Black girl who’s doing it, rather than a rich white man.

...and yes, this post is about Riri Williams.

Black Panther PSA

To whomever it may concern…you guys know it’s possible to mourn and be upset about Chadwick/T’challa WITHOUT disparaging Black women…right?

Because I can’t go onto ANY T’challa thread without someone throwing shade at Black women or saying that little Black boys don’t have any heroes to look up to any longer and it’s making me avoid all the places I used to go to for nice T’challa discussions.

And for anyone who thinks little boys don’t have any positive Black superheroes to look up, here’s a list of future MCU films/shows that are starring Black men:

1. War Machine film

2. Nick Fury’s Secret Invasion

3. Sam Wilson’s Captain America: New World Order

4. Blade starring Mahershala Ali (and yes, this film is still happening)

5. Into The Spiderverse Sequel with Miles Morales

Not to mention plenty of the previous movies/Shows that star Black men such as Luke Cage, Cloak and Dagger, Black Lightning, Static Shock, Wesley Snipes’s Blade, Spawn and the films where Black men are still important parts of the narrative like Batwoman, Supergirl, Eternals etc…

AND we still have the various books/comics/graphic novels that star Black men. Anyone who wants more T’challa should consider reading Ronald L. Smith’s YA series Black Panther: The Young Prince. There are 3 books in total. And even outside of Marvel and DC there’s tons of YA books such as Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky or the Imaro series.  There are PLENTY of outlets for young Black boys to see empowering images of themselves

I’m just kind of sick of this whole misogynoir that has reared its ugly head in the Black Panther/MCU fandom. Yes, I am heartbroken about Chadwick but that does not give ya’ll permission to shit on Shuri, Romanda, Nakia, Okoye and the entire Dora Milaje.

If your pro-Blackness does not include Black women, Black Queers, Black Neurodivergent people, Black people with disabilities, etc, then it’s not pro-Blackness.

ALSO: WTF IS WRONG WITH LITTLE BLACK BOYS LOOKING UP TO BLACK WOMEN AND BLACK GIRLS?

Also, slight addition:

It’s possible to mourn T’challa/Chadwick and be sad about losing them as Black male heroes WITHOUT throwing shade at the OTHER Black male heroes we currently have.

We HAVE STRAIGHT BLACK MALE HEROES WHO ARE GETTING THEIR OWN FRANCHISES BUT FOR SOME REASON SAM WILSON, JAMES RHODES, NICK FURY, AND BLADE AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH.

I mean which is it? Do ya’ll negroes want more Black male (straight...because that’s apparently important) superheroes, or not? Because all I’m seeing here is a bunch of shade at the heroes we do have because “THEY DoN’t HaVE Any PoWErZ!!!”

C’mon my dude...really? This is probably the first time in history that Black men and boys have had such a mosaic of Black masculinity to choose from and aspire towards. And yes, I’m including Queer Black men like Phastos.

And make no mistake I am still heartbroken about T’challa and what will happen moving forward but if I see one more fucking negro throw shade at Sam Wilson or James Rhodes because they were “sidekicks” I’m gonna lose it.

Honestly, it kind of seems like these guys hate Black women AND Black men.

i’m not sure if there’s already a post going around because i haven’t seen one, so i’ll make my own. puerto rico was just hit with hurricane fiona and the harm that this is bringing the island is huge — it may not seem like a big disaster to many, but puerto rico cannot handle another hurricane as they have not recovered fully from hurricane maria just yet.

people are losing their homes, they don’t have electricity, no water, etc. i’m linking some sources you can donate to to help out, if you’re able to. if you can’t, a reblog counts for so much too, as it may show up in the dashboard of someone who can donate. DO NOT donate to red cross or government organizations. these are the ppals of each organization I recommend donating to!!

here is a twitter thread with more options and resources. here is another thread in spanish with a bunch more.

I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids won’t even google this stuff because they don’t want parents/siblings checking their browser history.

This is really awesome. And if you’re not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works - the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list - look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.

This is wonderful.

This article really does hit the nail on the head when it cames to NBPOC and the Black Panther franchise. I myself even got an ask on the subject a few years back.

I’m happy that Ryan Coogler and many of the Black creatives who’re responsible for Black Panther’s success decided to open the door for further inclusion, but let’s not forget that when Black Panther first came out many NBPOC were more interested in trying to decent Blackness in a film that was about celebrating the myriads of the Black identity. And it wasn’t just Black Panther that had its Blackness decentered, it was other Black movies/Tv shows like Girl’s Trip, Get Out, Moonlight, etc.

It’s just interesting to me that Black people are expected to do this kind of labor for others while also being heavily critiqued for not being “Inclusive enough” in our movements. Meanwhile NBPOC are more than happy to exclude the Afrolatinos, Black Queers, Afro Asians, and other Black people who exist within their own communities.

I still remember Gina Rodriguez throwing shade at all the Black joy that his movie brought. I still remember MIA throwing shade at Beyonce for openly talking about Black Lives Matter. Or the post that demanded Black people support Aquaman in the same manner we supported Black Panther because “Polynesians need representation too”. I still remember the multiple tweets, and comments and reddit posts about how Black Panther’s mere existence wasn’t fair to NBPOC and that Black people should move mountains to give NBPOC the same thing that Black Panther gave us.

And let me reiterate, I’m happy that Ryan Coogler has chosen to use his platform to be inclusive and to share the joy and build bridges...but I’m also not about to ignore the fact that so many people came into my mentions and on my posts, and in the posts of my mutuals to try and act like Black people were getting too much attention and needed to move to the back of the bus to let NBPOC have a turn.

New Young Justice Kaldur’ahm episodes

I’m so glad that these YJ episodes focused on Kaldur because finally...FINALLY... the writers (and I’m really looking at Khary Payton here because he helped write these episodes) finally addressed how badly Kaldur has been treated.

I mean...let’s just recap here.

in Season 1:

He took on being Aquaman’s sidekick. Took on being the leader Took Batman’s passive aggressive “Get your head in the game” shit “Died” thanks to Megan in a training exercise Had the Team turn on him during the fallout of the “Mole” episode  Had Tula, the love of his life die Found out his father was Black Manta

In Season 2: He took on the undercover mission (WHILE STILL GRIEVING FOR TULA) Had his mind broken by Megan (AGAIN) Was hunted by Sports Master and Cheshire Basically took down the Light from the inside while maintaining cover Probably learned a lot about his biological father and had to reconcile his father’s “noble side” with his “terrorist side” Had the entire team think and treat him like a bloodthirsty villain

Season 3: Became Aquaman and had to help lead the Justice League, and all the BS that came with that.

And now he’s got to deal with the loss of Connor.

And even in those previous seasons whenever his mental health was brought up, it was always in service of others’ stories. When Black Canary was giving therapy sessions to the team, Kaldur’s wasn’t about his mental state, or how he literally chose death to save his teammates, or how he felt guilty for it, or how disturbing it is that a sixteen year old child willingly chose death without a second thought. Oh no, Kaldur’s therapy session was about how no one else could take command of the team and how he still needed to bare that burden.

I mean...WTF is this? Canary, you are talking to a 16 year old kid who places the weight of the world on his shoulders. How about you be an adult and actually do something to help him? Maybe ask him where this huge sense of responsibility comes from? Maybe ask him why he doesn’t seem to have a sense of self-preservation? Maybe start there?

And then when Megan had to fix his brain (after she broke it, BTW) it was all about her guilt and how she needed to get over herself and own up to her mistakes. Excuse me, she just turned Kaldur into a vegetable and I’m supposed to be sympathetic to her?

And the one person...the ONE person who actually calls Kaldur out on how he downplays himself is Wyynde. All throughout these episodes Wyynde has been looking at Kaldur’s health, telling him he needs to take a break, telling him he’s pushing himself way too hard. WYYNDE ASKS KALDUR IF HE NEEDS SOMETHING. And then it’s followed up by his family (his mom, dad and sister Dolphin) asking him if he’s okay. And asking him what he needs.

You see that Black Canary? You see that YJ team? See that Batman? Someone asked if the guy needs something.

WHERE THE HELL WAS ALL THIS SHIT 3 SEASONS AGO?????

And finally. FINALLY, people in the YJ universe are starting to realize that they’ve been expecting Kaldur to do far too much for FAR too little. When Nightwing actually listed all of the things that happened and how Kaldur couldn’t take a break. When his parents listed how he took on far too much responsibility when he was young (and effectively parented his parents). He joined the military at a younge age, joined school, dealt with the racist “impure” issues that ran rampant in Atlantis (from the YJ comics). Like Nightwing said, he’s been the team’s “rock” since it first began.

Yes, Kaldur’ahm is amazing and strong and hard working, but this show, and the people in it ask too much of him and they ALLOW him to push himself. Yes, I’m GLAD that people are finally waking up to Kaldur’s constant need to take on burdens.

Of course, it should’ve been noticed YEARS ago though. Kaldur maybe the team’s “rock” but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to treat him like one.

And while I’m at it...Arthur Curry sucks too. Did Arthur ever talk to Kaldur about Tula’s death? Did he ever talk with him about how Kaldur felt? What about Black Manta being his father? I know Arthur kept that from Kaldur (it was revealed in a video game) but did Arthur ever just....sit Kaldur down and listen to how he felt about it? Like dude. Oliver and Black Canary made a fucking intervention for Red Arrow, what the hell did Arthur do?

You know what? Just give me a full season of Kaldur going on a long vacation with his family. Fuck everybody else. La’gaan and his family can come too.

D3 The Mighty Ducks

Okay, so I’m watching D3 the Mighty Ducks which was a movie I really enjoyed when I was a kid. Anyway I’m at the scene where the Varsity Hockey team takes the ducks out to dinner and pretty much stiff them with the huge bill of 835 dollars (or something like that.) Fine. Whatever. Okay.

But the strange part is the Restuarant made this huge cake with the words “Thanks for Dinner Losers” written on top in frosting. So the restaurant must’ve at least known that this was going to happen, right? I mean the servers and the managers and whoever else must’ve had some inkling that the kids were going to leave without paying, and stick the other kids (the Ducks in this case) with the bill.

So....why the fuck would the Restuarant allow that to happen? I mean, it’s one thing realize that the lavish meal that was prepared (might not be) or isn’t going to be paid for, but tons of labor, food costs, and ingredients (which were probably expensive) went into making that food and now the restaurant isn’t going to see any kind of return on it. And you know damn well that NONE of the servers got a tip. But it’s another to be in on the joke with the rest of the varsity team and just allow them to screw over your servers, your cooks and the rest of your staff just for a little joke. Your food costs get fucked up, your ingredients are wasted.

I mean, just based off that bill (and the American culture of tipping) those servers should’ve been paid 20%  (really far more, if we’re being honest) of that 800+ bill, and they got nothing. At all.

And this is assuming everyone at that table acted politely (as in, no ridiculous requests, no making your server run around for frivolous things. No spills, minimum refills, everything was cooked perfectly and didn’t need to be sent back to the kitchen for some trivial reason, etc).

So let me get this straight, as the cooks/bakers/servers are preparing this lavish cake and writing the words “Thanks For Dinner Losers” on it, as requested by the Varsity Hockey team, none of them stopped and thought:

“Hey, I think some of those kids are planning on leaving and the others may not be able to pay for this.”

As they were rolling the huge lavish cake out into the dining room, with sparkles flaring from the frosting, none of the servers or workers thought “Well Damn, I did all this work for nothing.”

Because I’ll be real, if that were me, I’d be pissed off as fuck.

I hate making this comparison because it DOES happen but literally even though there were non Jewish people who were victims of Nazi Germany, you literally couldn’t tell an accurate story about WWII without specifically talking about antisemitism. You would be erasing so much and you HAVE to center Jewish people if you want to have a respectful and informed conversation about the horrors of the Holocaust. This centering doesn’t mean the Roma, disabled people, gay and GNC people weren’t victimize nor does it erase the overlap between all of these groups.

Like it’s okay to say Black it’s not a dirty word

Also HATE that non black people with literally no knowledge but their gut is trying to “school” me in a convo I literally got my degree in. I have studied slavery, trans Atlantic slave trade, Atlantic studies from African American African and Diasporic perspectives

I am not wrong here.

Also also all these people like “natives were slaves, Mexicans (???) were slaves” y’all want to be apart of the conversation about chattel slavery all while excluding and ignoring and erasing Black people within your communities.

Fuck offfff it’s all bullshit. It’s poc solidarity 🥺 🌈 ✨ until Black people say “this is our history” about our oppression then it’s people calling me an insane racist lunatic who needs to read CRT (which is hilarious because CRT doesn’t apply here but they don’t know that because THEY have never read CRT)

The original video was literally about US chattel slavery in the 1800s like… not slavery just as a general thousand year concept. It’s factually incorrect to say PoC were all experiencing chattel slavery in America in 1800s. Idk why that’s a crazy notion.

Also another guy said “ your comment is losing focus” I said how we are the focus. He said “it was implied who he was talking about don’t start with your whataboutism”

Nigga we literally what this is about 😭😭😂 literally imagine saying you don’t need to mention Black people in conversations about slavery
