Lex looked at his knuckles and then proceeded to cover them with leather gloves. With a proud smirk he looked back at Mercedes, placing his hand gently upon her shoulder.

Lex is possibly obsessed with Lois Lane. She is simply admirable and the fact that Clark Kent / Superman “has her” is infuriating. At first, he just wanted to add her to his collection of trophy wives and show her off as one of his belongings. That idea quickly faded, and he has, somehow, accepted that she is impossible to own. He hates her, and eventually loves her for it. Although he’d never admit it, or highlight it as relevant, he is in love with Lois Lane and has constant fantasies of gaining her approval. She’s smart and he thinks he can make her agree with him and will never stop trying, Lois challenges him and that’s exactly what he needs and what he’s looking for.
Luthor genuinely cares about her and doesn’t want to see her suffering in any way. His “feelings” have evolved from something totally materialistic to an intellectual / sentimental interest, however, this should not be misunderstood: If needed to destroy Superman, Lex would even kill Lois and has little to no respect for her if she tries to get in his way toworld dominationaccomplish his vision.

[ Came Mercy’s sharp reply, pushing off from her place against the wall and taking Lex by the collar, forcing him down to cover as a hail of fire shot overhead. ]
“This is my job, Lex, and I can’t have you sticking your neck out and—-”
[ There’s a familiar kind of whistle that she recognizes and only has an instant to react to, diving over Lex as an explosion shakes the very foundations of the city block and practically reduces their cover to rubble. Whatever crazy fight or invasion they found themselves entwined in, the last thing anyone needed was Lex Luthor getting involved; least of all her. ]
“I called in an air lift; if you make it to the roof you can get out of here, but you have to leave— now!”
Mercy was right, and he could see it now. His life was far too important and had to be protected, even from his own poor impulsive decisions. She contradicted him, and was probably the only one who could get away with it. But then again, this was not an easy scenario, he was willing to fight by her side because he knew she stood a chance of being defeated. Mercy was an important piece in Lex’s chess board and he could not afford to lose her, not yet. It had been hard enough to find her in the first place, her talents seemed to be endless.

There are units protecting the LexCorp archives, and they can’t reach our labs ❜ Everyone there could die on the battlefield, that’s what he had hired them for and they could be replaced in the next twelve hours, but Graves was the clear exception.
