          Word had gotten around of her, of her skill and ferocity. That was an asset he could use. Snoke was dead, and the Resistance was limping on broken legs. This was the time to end it, to gather those that would spell the end for the Resistance. His own knights were called elsewhere, subduing those who would call themselves politicians. He needed a guard, an elite force loyal only to him. She would be the start.

         “Alright, Poe, you’ve gotta stop telling everyone your best friend is a jedi master.” Yeah, he’d just gotten home and he knew Poe was excited, but he was getting really tired of showing people his lightsaber. For a multitude of reasons including the fact that it was red and not the most stable saber the galaxy had ever seen. Back at the temple he’d learned not to be self-conscious about it, and now it was all coming back to him. “Also I’m not a master. Just a knight-- I guess?”

          The Praetorian Guard lay dead at their feet, and he saw her flinch at the sound of the destroyer firing upon the Resistance life pods. There was hesitation, yes, the years of living in the darkness clawing to pull him back, but he moved. He moved to the intercom, nearly punching the button as he yelled, “STOP FIRING! We have them cornered.” It was all he could do. With his back turned to Rey, he wasn’t sure how he could face her. 

          “I can’t stop them from going down there. Hux will want to make sure they are wiped out.” Who had made it? If he reached out, would he feel an absence where his mother should be? Where Poe should be?

         What were two kids supposed to do in the middle of a military base? Well, he didn’t know what most kids did, but Ben Solo and Poe Dameron usually would be found in the hanger bay. Which was exactly where they were now. “How much trouble do you think we’d get in if we stole a fighter?”
