This other man has carried this “failure” around with him for 20 years. And he has clearly been dreaming of this rematch for that long. So he brings everyone in his life to the rink to cheer him on. This is his moment. Booth can see that. He realizes how important this silly goal is to this man. Booth certainly does not need it. He knows precisely who he is. This moment would not define him. It didn’t back then. And it definitely would not now. Booth looks over to see his partner and WIFE standing there supporting him. Like always. Like she always will. He isn’t living for some fleeting moment of glory. Look at Booth’s life. Look at all that he has. Brennan standing there, watching him, cheering him on- it’s evidence of his most precious victories. He already won a long time ago. He has it all. So Booth does the noble thing, as he so often does. And both men will go home happy tonight. Both will go home winners.
