“For Giving”

CONNIE ACHER For Giving (Golden Lab, UK - forthcoming 2016)

INSTANT CLASSIC! Connie Acher aka Melodie Provenzano’s debut from her upcoming long player wraps an ochre gauze ‘round my head that’s had me woozy since she first posted it this afternoon. The Black Dirt Studio haunt lends this an otherworldly gutter baroqueness similar to those classic 1965-1968 L.A. sessions of the Mamas & Papas, Monkees, early Gene Clark (with the Gosdins) and Lee Hazlewood, et al… and we’re absolutely swooning. FRR’s beloved @hanschew - see our ✰BEST REASONS TO WRITE FUCKIN’ RECORD REVIEWS IN 2014✰ - adds piano and tang, along with Black Dirt’s mastermind Jason Meagher. Melodie’s been hiding in plain sight for over fifteen years, plying her tilted strum in the alleys and dales of Mannahatta’s forgotten mini coulees. This already sounds like it’s gonna be her smash hit record. Get on board early so she can pay for Hans’ tango lessons.

(…and wait for the blooper reel at the end…)
