I found a little broadcast history in some old family mementos. This was a postcard that a great-aunt received in early 1953. It reads, "Hi! You can stop wondering, Mrs. Lawson. This is me -- Ray Schreiner."
A little research turned up some good information about Schreiner. He died just last year (2020) at age 98. Schreiner worked at radio stations in Virginia and North Carolina, and also around the world with Armed Forces Radio during World War II.
Schreiner came to WRNL in Richmond in 1950. He stayed there until moving WBCI in Williamsburg, Va., in 1962. In 1964, Schreiner became news director at Richmond's WXEX-TV (today's WRIC-TV). He then became director of information for the Virginia Department of Agriculture in 1965, where he hosted radio and television programs.
After his retirement in 1988, Schreiner served as a volunteer for the Virginia Historical Society. He also wrote a column for "Fifty Plus" magazine in Richmond from 1997 to 2011. Schreiner was very active in community theater in Danville, Williamsburg and Richmond.
