“Heracles, they’re lesbians”.
Hello my dear friend,
I apologize for how long its been since I’ve written. Which I wish I could tell you there was a good reason for, but there’s really not? More I’ve been overwhelmed with how many old friends, or old family there is to write, so write none of you. But I miss all of you, and hope that is never misunderstood.
Last we talked you mentioned how we don’t always have to reminisce, so I’ll try and avoid that. It’s also in my nature, forgive me. (failing immediately) I think you were a big support, and a big reason why I had felt so lifted in Minneapolis. The way you and our small odd family supported each other made so much feel possible. I miss that community. Anyway, you had also mentioned you missed sharing art, and wanted to open up a way of doing that. I’ll write you more, and let you know what I’ve been up to. Just wanted to share a piece, and say hello for now.
I can’t recall if you had met Samantha or not. She had joined us for a few fires under Stone Arch, but was usually quieter. Regardless, she’s in my city now as well and has become one of my dearest friends. She recently gifted me “How To Speak Minnesotan” which I didn’t expect to give me such a wash of nostalgia. But it did, and I learned what a Snowbird was and never felt so called out. I’ll attach the definition below. I also recorded quick on my phone. Nothing spectacular, but it made me miss the Midwest and miss all of you(and better got me to break my 3 year silence some). So a bit of a love letter to home / to all my fellow birds who feel misplaced and have made the terrible decision to move from our home. (is my love for MN one sided? I assume we all have it.)
Love you. Miss you. Be well.
- Thomas Snowbird : “Snowbirds are Minnesotans who abandon us in the winter and head south with the birds. They love to talk about home because they feel so guilty and ashamed for having left it.”
