Marlene Dietrich is detained at a train station in Paris in 1933 for violating the ban on women wearing trousers.

As with all german actors in the 30's, you always gotta check the World War II section of their Wikipedia page. Well im happy to report that Marlene Dietrich was in open opposition to the Nazi regime, and in 1937 donated her entire salary for a film (over 9 million dollars in todays money) to helping Jewish refugees :)

DMing is hard. I acknowledge this. Weaving a story with words for long periods of time means you’re gonna say something silly sometimes when your brain blips. And it’s not your fault that it’s so silly that your players share it around turning it into an inside joke, immortalizing your brain fart moment forever.

My DM was narrating a scene between our tiefling rogue and the NPC she was romancing. He was trying to set the mood for their first kiss, up on a tower overlooking the city, looking into each others eyes. They’d just been on a romantic date, there was a bottle of wine between them. And this was their moment.

The NPC leaned in to kiss the rogue and the kiss was, according to our DM, “long and normal.”

The entire session went off the rails. We became ungovernable creatures of hilarity. How long is normal?

We are informed normal is six seconds and we devolve even further into chaotic paroxysm of laughter. The DM desperately tried to rein us in but for the rest of the session everything took a long and normal amount of time.

My betrothed and I would kiss each other while counting to six in our heads then declare afterward, “Ah yes! Long and normal!”

I accidentally told my school team about it, reasoning that they’d at least never meet the DM who lives out of state. They’d say we needed the scene to be the long and normal length, or hold a pose for a long and normal time.

At the end of the year I invited them to my house for a celebratory meal and was surprised when my DM joined the DnD video call early. My teammates looked at him, expressions slowly spreading into evil grins. “Long and normal!” They greeted him.

He turned a look upon me of utter betrayal while I hustled them out of my house.

“It’s been a year!” He cried at the unfairness.

“Maybe it’ll phase out by next year,” I told him.

Okay but the Fallout show is SUCH A GOOD EXAMPLE for character driven writing. Both Lucy and Maximus get exactly what their goal was throughout the show - Lucy finds her father and learns the truth about her mother, Maximus becomes a hero to the Brotherhood and will most likely be knighted now. And yet, Wilzig told Lucy in the second episode that by the end of her journey, she might not want the same things anymore. And he was right. They both get what they wanted, and they both hate it. They both realize these are hollow victories, that what they wanted is not all it's cracked up to be, and part of that is because they are not the same people they were anymore when their journy started. They have SEEN the world with changing perspectives and now Lucy sees that her own father is no better than Moldaver, that her own mother did no longer trust him. The line she said when they left vault 4, that her father would never forgive her if she wiped out an entire community just to save him, hits a lot different once you know HE wiped out AN ENTIRE CITY WITH A BOMB because his wife left him and took their children with her away from a man who lied to everyone she held dear. And he didn't even take her home with him, he left her there, just took the children, which makes all his 'I miss her every day' bullshit sound very hollow. And Maximus, who saw the Brotherhood as literal knights in shining armour, became so disillusioned because of Knight Titus' cowardice, the betrayals, the pain, and then seeing the corruption of the cleric who just wants power, and now he ends up being a hero to these people. And Cooper, Cooper went to the same thing, just 2 centuries earlier when he found out his wife was not who he thought she was. They are just very neat characters!

Story time! About karma or something. So my mum works at the front desk of a GP practice. Has worked there for damn near all my life, and she's retiring this year. A few years ago, the practice decided to expand, hire two new doctors and move into larger premises. These premises were being built (by my uncle, who is an architect) in the outskirts of our growing hometown. It's growing, so new people are moving to our town, and there need to be more GPs to make sure everyone can be covered, so an established practice expanding and moving to these areas is a HUGE selling point for that area, and a win for everyone there. Except the people who bought the house right next to the intended practice. A married couple, who made it THEIR LIFE'S MISSION (literally, they said so in a letter to the practice) to prevent with any means legally possible that a practice moves in next to them. For some reason that comes down to 'we don't want patient traffic outside out property Monday-Friday during business hours'. So, these people are lawyers, and have a bunch of lawyer friends, and used every legal loophole to force constrction at the site to stop for long periods of time. The construction that would have taken less than a year under normal circumstances took almost 5 yars. They went to city hall to demand access to the blueprints to find potential flaws and waited until the very last possible moments before costruction stops could be lifted again to hand in new complaints tso the complaint had to be reviewed and thus the construction stop had to continue. They took pictures of every possible flaw as evidence. They tried to interrogate the construction workers to find any possible transgressions (my uncle then actually made sure he hired only workers who did not speak a word of German so they simply COULDN'T answer these psychos). All the other neighbours started getting really confused and sad because they were waiting for the practic to move in. They obviously weren't allowed to name them, but the town knew about them anyways. Halve a yeara go, the practice was finally, finally finished and they could move in, the life work of these people finally thwarted.

Yessterday, my mother told me they were getting a divorce, and the husband had already moved out, and they were using their lawyer friends now to battle each other over 'who has to take the kids' - that was the wording, who HAS TO TAKE THE KIDS. People are wild, and I feel sorry for those children but not sorry these people are ruining their own lives out of spite.
