The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time - one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.

And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT is out now.

On your big OTH gifset - How did you make multiple gifs in one? If that makes sense.

a lot of math went into that one because it’s so overwhelmingly complicated, but making multiple gifs into one is actually pretty simple.

you have to make both gifs separately, but when you have both open in photoshop, go to the image drop down and click canvas size. if you’re putting two gifs on top of each other, you want the height to be the height of the gif x2 but if you’re putting them side by side, it’s the width x2. the one place that differs slightly is here on tumblr, where if you want the gap between each gif the way it looks in gifset format, you need an extra 4 pixels in your canvas size. a full gif width-length on here is 540px, so you would still want your side-by-side gifs to be 268px with that 4px gap in the middle, so your canvas size would be 540. BOTH gifs also need to be on the same size canvas.

once you have a canvas size worked out, make sure that your gifs are the same number of frames. if they aren’t, then half the gif will disappear while the other one finishes or you’ll have to freeze the frame while the other finishes (basically it won’t be continuous). once they’re the same number of frames, highlight all of the frames in the gif timeline bar thing (i can’t think of the name of it), and in the right hand corner of that bar, click the three line menu and choose “copy frames.” once your frames are copied, go to the second gif and select all of the frames in that timeline, click the three lines, and select “paste frames.” before the gif pastes, it’ll come up with a list of options asking where you want the frames to be pasted. click “over selection.”

this will give you a canvas with a multiple simultaneously moving gifs, and if you want to add more than two, you just have to do the math for all of it.

Sam Lansky has such a wondrous way with words, and I’ve loved reading his pieces for over a decade. If you’ve ever been around him, you know he’s just the best type of person: Curious. Interested. Hilarious. Intriguing and intrigued. I have tRuSt iSSueS when it comes to interviews but I couldn’t be happier that I did this one with him. I was blown away to see quotes from people I adore and admire like Stevie Nicks, Greta Gerwig, Shonda Rhimes, Phoebe Bridgers, Natalie Maines, Kenny Chesney, and Lucian Grainge. I was so happy he spoke to fans Madison and McCall who were so eloquent, loyal, and kind. I’m really reflecting on this year, and all the years that led up to it. Can’t say thank you enough times. 🥲
