Important PSA

This was not a planned hiatus. In fact, I’d intended to be especially active over the summer! However, the loss of my cat transitioned directly into a family emergency, which then ran immediately into another family emergency--one that involves me more fully and has managed to turn my entire life upside down. My plate is, at the moment, full from handling these things, and in my few moments of quiet, the thought of dragging out my computer to check on my dash or poke at drafts I have no energy for is stressful, not happy, and I have no need of more stress.

I don’t know how long these circumstances will continue, and I don’t know when--or even if--activity will resume on this account. Thank you all for your care and support, and I’m deeply sorry this is happening. I’m especially sorry to those with whom I was starting new things. I wish you all the best, and hope to be speaking with you all again soon!

If, in the meantime, you’d like to get ahold of me, you may do so over skype, kik, or via texting--access to my phone is regular. If you’d like the information, feel free to drop me an ask or send a fanmail.

photos by jim brandenburg, who spent three summers thirty years ago following a pack of arctic wolves on ellesmere island, near the north pole. the wolves, raised in the isolation of the high canadian arctic, had no instinctive fear of humans, and consequently allowed jim to live with and document them.

reflecting back on his time with the wolves, he notes, “the photos were taken in an environment undergoing serious changes. climate change has altered the whole ecosystem. it means that the numbers of animals that live there are depleting rapidly and that includes the wolf population.”

he adds, “the weather has become warmer and, as a result, instead of snowing it’s now become some sort of freezing rain. that turns the ground into ice, meaning that the animals can’t get to the food. the arctic is going to be the place where we’ll see the most extreme changes. it’s heartbreaking.”

I got this forever ago, but I’m trying to clean out my inbox, and this is easier for me than the “positivity” ones that have been sitting in my inbox almost as long:

1. I call my pets by nicknames more often than I do their real names. My dog’s name is, officially, Beowulf Sigurd Frodo Sigmund Perseus, Sovereign of the Realm–more commonly known as Hero. I call him: “Pup”, “Puppers”, “Puppermost”, “Pupito”, “Nakamura-kun”, “Hiroshima”, and “my tiny atomic bomb”.2. Myyy friends like to joke that I am The Hulk? I am pretty patient, and I generally feel hurt-and-passive more than angry, when I perceive I’ve been wronged, but when I do get angry, it’s not pretty, and I’m very capable of being nasty.3. Umumum there are a handful of canon characters I think i could portray reasonably well, but they’re almost all from books that have no fandom. v_v4. I’m very oddly enamored of Michael Sheen and Don Cheadle? THEY MAKE MY FACE HAPPY.5. Iiii was valedictorian of my High School class–but that’s less of an achievement when one considers that I went to a private school, and my class only had about 35 people in it. :p
