First look at “A Fractured History”

“From the moment I could dream, I could recall my first life. The start of my incarnation cycle. Every death, I am born again—pale skin and blue eyes... As I had always been. Hair white as snow, and in the light of the moon—the markings would appear.”

“In my first life, I was a rambunctious child. Along with my sisters, we claimed the skies as our own. Lightning was the gift we shared with the world, something that was envied by many. We existed long before conflict and war… but when the fighting among men began... we fled."

We regrouped in the land untouched by battle. Though an army was made, they never marched to fight. This country was born under the rule of a King, known for his cowardice. Though he held within him the might of a forgotten beast, he hid the power away, within himself.

As the battle waged on, the threat of war finally reached his land. The cowardly King demanded protection—His people built walls around the kingdom. Soon after, walls were built around the cities surrounding the kingdom. More and more walls we built up.

But the King’s fear dictated for more.

We were once free to come and go to this land as we pleased—until he ordered for our capture, for we were wise and strong. We had power to rival his own, but it would mean nothing if we belonged to him.

My eldest sister was forced in marrying the King, a contract that bound us to the country.

Years after the ceremony had been held, war finally reached the walls surrounding the country. The King knew it wouldn’t be long before they would begin to fall. He, along with his wife, my other older sister, my younger sister, and myself, were then to use all of our power in order to protect the country.

For the protection of his lands, the King then erected four statues, which sealed away our powers within them. The Dragon of the North; The Eldest—Nobel, wise, and obedient. The Dragon of the East; The Second Born—Tempered, stubborn, and decisive. The Dragon of the West; The Youngest—Innocent, childish, and curious.

And the Dragon of the South; My statue as the Third Born—Independent, prosperous, and kind.

And from atop his kingdom, the cowardly King reached for the sky. Like a leech, he proceeded in taking away our lightning in order to shield his lands and the people living within it. His most noble sacrifice—using his own power to separate the country from the rest of the world.

He begged the Sky, the Land, and the Seas to allow him to keep peace within his walls. And with the dying breath of his first life, he summoned the great Leviathan. With the Blue Eyes White Dragon Statues protecting the country, the Leviathan pulled the lands into the depths of the sea, sealing us beneath the cold waters, sealed inside a clear dome. We no longer touched the warmth of sunlight… But we no longer had the threat of war.

So is the history… of our Home—Atlantis.

Her Sapphire Sky CH 16--

Okay. So here’s the deal.

I’ve officially written 5 different ways for this chapter to go. 5 versions. I’m having such a horrible time deciding what I want to keep in my story and what I want to remove. There’s so many different routes that I could have this end, but there’s an ultimate goal I want to reach with this chapter.

I absolutely love the support I get from you, my wonderful followers. But please allow me the time to get the chapter fixed. I don’t want to post it unfinished or without reaching what I’d like to achieve. Nothing makes me more happy than to know that you’re all anxious and excited for my next update on the chapter.

I promise that I’m working on it now, and that I will have the chapter out very soon.

Patience is all I ask.

Her Sapphire Sky Chapter 15: Are you Avoiding it? [Preview]

Seto was leaning against the counter as he waited for his coffee. I opened up my can and started taking sips as I stood a few feet from him, wondering if I should stand across from him, next to him, or just sit down at one of the tables. His eyes were closed as he listened to the coffee maker. I held the can to my lips as I stared, and walked to his right side, leaning against the counter as well, still a few feet from him.

He glanced over at me for a second, his cheeks slightly red. “You know...”

He paused, as if stopping himself from talking to me. “Yeah?”

“Well...” He cleared his throat. “I thought it was going to be… difficult to talk to you. After the other night.”

“Huh?” I took another sip, hoping he'd explain.

“You know, the other night...” He scratched the back of his head. “Sorry about that, by the way.”

“What are you—” I was cut off as a couple staff members walked in, talking slightly loudly.

“I know! I bet you he'll show up too!” One said.

The other laughed. “You think he'll win this time around too?”

“Probably—unless Kaiba steps in finally.” The man yawned. “He's gotta be planning something. Why else would he take so much time off from dueling?”

Suddenly, the man who was just speaking was elbowed in the ribs by his colleague, realizing that Seto and I were in the same room. “S—sorry Mr. Kaiba! We meant no offense!”

I stared back at Seto, who's eyes were closed again. He was still leaning against the counter, arms crossed. He kept composed, like he always had. “It's fine.”

The two seemed intimidated, and left the room without another word. I was surprised. It was a whole different world here. The employees are much more intimidated and distant. At the mansion, everyone was cozy and friendly. Like a family almost. I let my head sink, thinking about the mansion. I know I would be going there before work to catch a ride with Seto until I was moved out on my own…

But would I get to go back there after I had a home? Would I ever get to visit and just say hi to everyone there? Or even… Spend time with Seto there? Or even Mokuba?

“Anyway...” Seto continued, “I'm sorry… For being drunk and everything that night...”

It finally clicked in my head, “Oh! That! Heh, no worries!”

“That's it?” He stared over at me, like he was expecting more. “Just, no worries? After what happened?”

“There wasn't much to it...” I took another sip of my soda. “I mean… yeah, you fell asleep on me… And...”

Her Sapphire Sky Chapter 14: Holograms [Preview]

“Computer, test field card: Aroma Garden.” I called out once more.

“Searching system for: The Sanctuary in the Sky. Spell Card Type. Property: Field. Card Number: 0-5-0-5-0-6-4-4. Card Description: 'Once per turn, if you control an aroma monster, you can gain five hundred life points, also all monsters you control gain five hundred attack and defense points until the end of your opponent's next turn,'” The description was much longer than I remembered it being, “'(even if this card leaves the field.) If a face-up aroma monster you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the graveyard: Gain one thousand life points.'”

Again, the prior field melted around us. The lights became brighter as a cloudy sky now filled across the ceiling. The grass remained, though a stone path was created over top of it, as well as a garden of different plants, flowers, and a few trees sprouted from nothingness. It appeared as though there was a tiny house off in the distance, and an arch formed over the stone path.

Kisara's eyes widened as she pressed her hands deep into her chest. He eyes widened, taking in the scenery. False scents now filled the room, the humidity from the forest leaving. The room again felt warm, like you were actually standing outside on a nice spring day. The sound of birds tweeting and crickets chirping filled the silence. A lot more effects were put into this hologram. I remember it being one of the animation specialist's favorite. He put enough work into it so that he could propose to his, now, wife.

I was fond of this card as well. It was serene. It was like an escape from the rest of the world. Kisara walked along the fake stone path, taking in this field. I wanted to show her this one more than anything. When she spoke of what she wanted in a home, I thought of this card. I felt like this was something she truly wanted.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her at this point. It was as if she fit in with the scenery. I felt like if I shut the system down that she would disappear with it. It reminded me of all the hallucinations I used to have of her. All of the nightmares of watching her die. All the dreams of failing to rescue her. All the times her ghost haunted me in my drunken episodes.

She's real though. This time, she's real. I bit the inside of my bottom lip. I felt like it would bleed if I bit any harder. That intimidating feeling returned to the pit of my stomach as my heart started pounding again. I felt sweat drops forming on my forehead, underneath my bangs. I wiped them away and closed my eyes.

“I...” I started whispering to myself.

Kisara didn't seem to be paying attention. I wanted to say something. Anything. And the words that came out were words I should not have spoken at that point in time.
