You like Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi? It's early volumes were a little too happy-go-lucky for my taste. But when York Shin arc came out in 99, I think it really came into it's own, commercially and artistically. The whole arc has an exciting, tension-filled plot, and a new sheen of moral complexity that really gives the characters' personal arcs a big boost. It's been compared to Naruto, but I think Togashi has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In 2003, Togashi released this; Chimera Ant arc, his most accomplished arc. I think his undisputed masterpieces are chapters 307 "Loss" and 317 "Answer". Chapters so sad, most people probably don't pay attention to the message. But they should, because it's not just about the parallels between Gon, Meruem, Killua and Komugi. It's also a personal statement about the shonen genre itself.
