Gorgeous, gorgeous cosplay of my Wondy artwork (http://tinyurl.com/ozp3g3g). Everything about it, particularly that glorious starry skirt, are just divine :3

I just wrote this huge fucking post that should’ve been simple, but when do I ever really do simple. In the process of making it, I was skimming through a bunch of episodes to refresh my memory of how certain scenes looked, get screencaps, the whole deal.

Michiru, as I said, was giving me tremendous trouble. Every scene i could think of for her wouldn’t work for assorted non-relevant reasons. initially, I didn’t want to go with this one either, not because I don’t love the scene (I SO DO), but because the image wasn’t entirely what I wanted. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized that I really did quite like it, and so went into get the cap.

“But wait,” I said to myself, “I better check the second time Michiru does her ‘unzip me’ thing, to see if they look any different and which one I’d like best.”

I WAS COMPLETELY UNPREPARED FOR HOW DIFFERENT THEY WERE

This is Episode 180 (”The Brightness of the Calling Stars! Haruka and Michiru Enter the Battle”), in the absolutely DIVINE scene where Seiya comes into Michiru’s dressing room and she proceeds to fuck up their everything. I talked about this episode a lot (A LOT A LOT), so I won’t repeat myself. The liveblog of this scene begins on this page of the backup, and will fill in all the context. I’m just going to focus on these two caps.

Because holy shit, these two caps.

It would’ve been so easy for the animators to just reuse the first animation. It’s the same angle at the same distance doing the same action. They use those kinds of shortcuts all the time. Remember, this is back when animation was hand-drawn, so every single frame had to be sketched and penciled and inked and painted. Hours of labour and associated costs. EVERY SCENE matters just that much more, because the time and effort to make it is so much higher.

And they chose to animate the same gesture twice in two completely different ways. They knew precisely how important it was to the character piece to make it clear beyond any doubt that Michiru’s motivation in these actions is worlds apart.

In the first, Michiru is asking Seiya to unzip her. It’s part of her grander plan to play Seiya like her violin, keeping them off-balance, ensuring she has complete control in her devastating subtle ways. Despite how the gesture appears, this is Michiru ruling this situation with an iron fist. Note how she’s standing completely straight, her expression light, but her eyes wide and focused completely on Seiya. Michiru doesn’t want Seiya to unzip her, she wants to know how Seiya REACTS to being asked to do it. There’s a beautiful sharpness to Michiru’s expression, and it’s the reason why I picked it to be my “Holy Grail” Michiru cel.

But then that second cap. Holy shit, that second cap.

Michiru is now asking Haruka to unzip her, and EVERYTHING CHANGES. When she’s making this gesture to Haruka, there’s no denying what’s behind it. This is Michiru the seductress. She’s all but posing as a pin-up here, arched neck, half-lidded eyes, coquettish glance.

Anybody ever confused over where Michiru’s thoughts and intentions were at in that scene, they need look no further than these two caps. Michiru wants information from Seiya.

Michiru straight up WANTS Haruka.

So I was just going to reblog this because of the total hairspiration, since my next dye job is going to try and match Michiru’s anime hair color as closely as possible. And then I read the post and I am just like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this is such a good post. -slow claps-

Okay, listen up. I know this isn’t bird-related, but it is VERY IMPORTANT.

This is Hermione. Several weeks ago, she and her three brothers were abandoned at our clinic.

All four tested positive for FIV,...

This gets me right where I live. My cat is FIV+ and is my best friend. If someone hasn’t already helped out this little girl then maybe you could signal boost until she’s safe? Thanks, everybody. <3

Not everyone was happy with [Captain America]. This may surprise some people, but before America entered World War II there was actually a strong pro-Nazi sentiment in the United States. So much so that Simon and Kirby [Cap’s creators] received death threats and mail disparaging them in their creation, not helped by the fact that the two were also Jewish. In fact, a pro-Nazi group called ‘The German-American Bund’ once marched in front of Timely’s offices [one of Marvel Comics predecessors]. The two called in the police for protection, and they sure as hell got it! As it turned out, then mayor of New York, Fiorello LaGuardia, was a fan of Captain America and actually called them up to tell them “You boys over there are doin’ a good job. The city of New York will see that no harm will come to you.”

-Linkara’s introduction to his review of Captain America Comics #1 (via kradeiz)

Never let it be swept under the rug. There was a lot of pressure for America to either stay neutral, or even to go in on the side of the Nazi’s, before Pearl Harbor (and after, to only declare war on Japan). Celebrities like Charles Lindbergh were pro Nazi, and not shy about their opinions.
