Spiritual but not religious,” Zachary clarifies. He doesn’t say what he is thinking, which is that his church is held-breath story listening and late-night-concert ear-ringing rapture and perfect-boss fight-button pressing. That his religion is buried in the silence of freshly fallen snow, in a carefully crafted cocktail, in between the pages of a book somewhere after the beginning but before the ending.

Strength. Art by Yoshi Yoshitani, from the Tarot of the Divine.

Tam Lin Scotland, Scottish Fairy Tale
The Strength card is about willpower and determination. Focus, persistence, and the ability to confidently stare any challenge in the face and overcome it. This is not physical strength, but a purity of heart and purpose.
Upright: Courage, completion, control, determination, patience Reversed: Weakness, abuse of power, pride, negligence

From the artist:

“The Strength card is about strength of will and determination. Focus, persistence, confidence and the ability to overcome any challenge is the theme of this card. I picked the story of Tam Lin, which is Scottish in origin. In the story, this girl, Janet, walks into a grove and meets the fairy man Tam Lin. When she gets back home, she realizes she’s pregnant. People advise her to get an abortive plant from the woods, so she goes back to the forest to confront Tam Lin about what he’s done. He admits he’s not actually a fairy, but human kidnapped by fairies, and will be sacrificed unless she grabs and holds on to him all night no matter what he transforms into. I drew Tam Lin mid-transformation as Janet holds on to him. She’s not afraid as she dominates him and he willingly submits. As a beast, he represents out animalistic urges, but I also decided to make him look like the Egyptian god Ammit, who would devour impure hearts . (but you can see she’s just fine!) Lastly, did you know it doesn’t take *that* much force to keep a crocodile mouth closed? So it’s more about being fearless and clever.” — Yoshi Yoshitani

this winter is going to be very hard.

I keep seeing people nervously joking about april to september being nothing more than a black space and as someone who has been studying trauma for as long I have— don’t let it be. go back. look at the pictures you took on your phone, read old journal entries, if you don’t have them, use this last bit of summer to document beautiful moments, moments you were proud of, moments that comforted you, and start to build at least the beginnings of a kindhearted story about how you handled the spring and summer of 2020. that simple framework of a story is the scaffolding you’ll use for your future recovery, it is invaluable. let it be a black space if it wants to but scatter a few campfires in there for your own sake.

This is solid advice - depression makes you view life as an empty expanse and ruins your memory. Give yourself tools to argue with it - make sure you know it's a lie. If you let what the depression says be "true" it will only get its claws in deeper.
