Casual Friday
I'm sad about switching blogs because some of the people I used to follow here are dead. Ali killed herself almost exactly five years ago but she's still one of my followers. If I switch she won't follow me back ever again and I'll never have access to any of those messages or interactions and she'll be a ghost. I met so many of my soulmates here. I posted a picture of Poppy minutes after she was born. This blog knew about my divorce before my mom did. Saying goodbye to something like this is hard. Again, eventually I'll make the move over to judge-her-not.tumblr.com. I'm not leaving. Just changing. Against my will.
Acquiring skills to bring with me to the Apocalypse
Made a new blog. judge-her-not.tumblr.com Gonna slowly start transitioning over there I guess? Come find me please.
Oh wow how shitty. Tumblr is making everyone reset their passwords, right? I started this blog....uh...nine years ago? Eight maybe? Anyway, I no longer use the email address associated with my account. So I can't access the fucking password reset instructions they sent me. And they don't send out account information via any non linked email. AND you can't change your password using the mobile app (which I am still logged into) because why would the mobile app actually work, right? Anyway I can't access my account at all from a web browser. And if I ever get a new phone or update my mobile app I'll be locked out forever. That's so fucking cool @staff. You guys are so fucking good at your jobs.

I'm pretty new here, and I don't actually know much about dinosaurs (just followed this blog because it seemed really cool and interesting) so could you explain what shrink-wrapped means?
Of course! See, modern animals have a lot of muscles, fat, fluff, etc, and end up looking very little like their actual skeleton. For example, look at how much fluff owls have:

However, lots of palaeoartists completely ignore this! They basically stretch skin over the bones and call it a day. One especially bad example that was featured on @palaeofail is this poor pterosaur:
It barely has room for its digestive system. It’s definitely missing the air sac system that allows it to breathe. It’s got virtually no muscles on the arms - how does it fly?? - on the head (no wonder its mouth is open. It has no jaw muscles to close it!), on the torso (it needs to flap), or on the legs (walking) It doesn’t have any fat at all, so it’s definitely starving (maybe because it can’t fly or close its moth?). The skin is much too thin; you can see all of the bones and its wing membranes should be much, much thicker. And it’s missing the hair-like pycnofibres that should be covering its body!
Many palaeoartists have started to strike back at this by drawing modern animals like we might draw them if we found their bones:

In Writtle village, Essex, U.K., close to where I work the Wisteria sinensis (Chinese wisteria) are flowering, they are beautifully trained up the house walls using wires. This large deciduous climber has twining stems with fragrant, mauve coloured flowers opening before the pinnate leaves.
