The bias and patriarchy of this election.

you know who i feel bad for right now? hillary rodham. i feel bad for the woman who’s been told ever since she was the first lady of arkansas that she had to be less herself, less authentic, less feminist, less anti-segregation, less forceful and opinionated, that she should be awkwardly smiling, dye her hair, change her name to clinton and love every second of the status quo. so she dyed her hair, changed her name, stayed on message and started smiling more. and then she was criticized again as flotus, again for being involved, for caring about social issues, for being too radical and daring to want universal health care.

and now everyone complains how she’s not authentic enough, not left enough, doesn’t have the courage of her convictions. yeah uh, there’s a reason for that: america always hated her authentic self.

hillary clinton is deeply flawed, i will never deny that… but damn i want hillary rodham to get her due.

yes I do hate trump supporters. i don’t care who they are as individuals. once you put your support behind a disgusting sexist racist xenophobic homophobic oversized cheeto man with a $3 toupee you automatically are saying you do not care about minorities or the poor or women. you are automatically giving your vote to a man who will monumentally fuck up years of progression and work towards equality. you are as bad as he is. so yes. I hate all trump supporters.

so my friend said very loudly to me, with a group of other history majors “yeah i’m not gonna vote bc i’m sure hillary will win”

literally all six of us looked at her and said “vote” 

and she goes “ehhh, maybe i will, if i remember to”

and my friend leans in her face and was like “don’t worry. we’ll remind you. bc you need to vote.”

so yeah here’s your friendly fucking reminder that you should have ABSOLUTELY NO PEACE OF MIND and that you need to GET YOUR ASS TO THE POLLING STATION AND VOTE THIS NOVEMBER 8TH.

THERE ARE BILLIONS OF PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES THAT WISH SO MUCH THEY COULD VOTE JESUS FUCKING CHRIST DO IT

This ain’t the election for laziness, magical thinking, or anything other than putting in the work and making tough decisions. We got enough laziness, magical thinking and general foolishness going on, which is how we got a reality TV star as a major party candidate. If you can’t get to the polls, ask a friend or a local campaign office about a lift. If your shift at work covers most of the election day, ask to take a long lunch. They can say no, but it’s worth a shot. Vote all the way down the ticket, because it all counts. A quick glance at a candidate’s website and going, “yup, those ideas are good” is better than nothing, but read more if you can about their voting record and their work in the private sector if you can. 

But for the love of all that is holy, VOTE.
