ok can we agree that the WORST feeling is when you’re just sitting around consciously procrastinating and you’re just overly aware that each second that passes is more time wasted and you like watch hours pass and you’re STILL procrastinating and you CANT STOP and your panicked brain is trapped inside a body that refuses to be productive and inside you’re screaming but outwardly you’re just eating chips

I love that even in some crack stage drama, Victor never gets mad at Yuuri. Never begrudges him that maybe there was someone in his past. He’s mad at *himself* for having this lack of knowledge about his past. And he’s worried that he won’t measure up and decides he needs to prove to Yuuri he’s good enough for him.

I think it’s common in fandom to have Yuuri doubting his worthiness for Victor, but I do think that crosses Victor’s mind as well. He’s had depression for years and has spent so long “performing” that I think he’s worried that something about his true-self won’t be good enough.

“Chihoko… Who the hell is that…!? Wait, no, it doesn’t matter. It’s because of his past that Yuri is who he is now.”

“I was definitely mad then. Not at Yuri, but at myself for thinking I’d understood everything about him. Yuri gave me so many surprises in life. His eyes were always shining as he looked for the answers. He made my world so much more colorful. Now it’s my turn. I’ll surpass your imagination.”

Also, at no point does Victor say anything implying that Yuuri is his or owes him or anything like that. Instead, he says “this person may be Yuuri’s past…but I am his NOW.”

This makes Yuuri’s response when he arrives all the more fitting. Because he tells Victor “I could search the whole world, nobody is better than you!”

So utter crack stage drama script aside, I really love this. Because it shows such a healthy way of dealing with this. Victor’s not mad at Yuuri, not expecting Yuuri to value him over any other person, not possessively jealous. He lets Yuuri be his own person. He doesn’t assume that he means the world to him, but instead says that because Yuuri made his world so much more colorful, now it’s his turn to give that back to Yuuri. To do something that will surpass Yuuri’s imagination the way Yuuri has surpassed his. There’s just such mutual give and take with their relationship and naked rooftop shenanigans aside, I feel this really gets that.

For anyone still doubting that Yuuri and Victor didn’t actually kiss in episode 7, clinging to the misconception that maybe they just hugged, please watch this audio commentary for episode 7 between Kubo-sensei and Leo and Guang-Hong’s seiyuu, with translation as follows:

  • “Here it comes, here it comes…”
  • “It’s here!”
  • “Oh man—! Here it comes! Ah…ah, I CAN’T! No! Aaah!”
  • “Congratulations!”
  • “CONGRATULATIONS!!”
  • “It’s only episode 7!”
  • “They got married!”
  • “No no, not quite yet—not married just yet.”
  • “That’s still a little in the future.”

Given that they’d hugged on more than a few occasions before and in front of flashing cameras and thronging mobs, it’s safe to say Kubo-sensei and the seiyuu were not applauding a simple hug :P Nor would a hug in any way be interpreted even jokingly as getting married.

On a related note, HOW CUTE ARE THE SEIYUU FOR GETTING SO EXCITED FOR THIS HUGE MOMENT FOR OUR PROTAGONISTS???
