Without the goverment, who will help those in need?
$550 to build, $64,450 to line everyone’s pockets.
We’ve been asking the City Hall to fix the stairs in front of our house for 4 years before they had the founds to do it.
In those 4 years the stairs in front of the building right next to ours were re-made 3 times. It’s a weird coincidence that a retired city official lives there.
Different but also the same.
The stairs one is a shit example cause the stairs the guy built were shoddy and didn’t follow ADA guidelines as I recall
Actually, his stairs were perfectly sound. They just weren’t “up to government code”.
You mean “government code” that requires stairs be the right height, shape, and that the handrails are the right height? The government codes that mean the stairs will actually last longer than a year or two? His stairs were probably fine for someone’s backyard. Public spaces take more abuse than private spaces.
Did you read the article? Because what I got from that is “he embarrassed us, so it was against code. Here look, we fixed it for a fraction of what we said it would cost.” The only problems with his stairs were the long term survivability of the wood, and the fact he publicly shamed the government into action.
