in honour of helbi’s 5th anniversary here is a list of shitty things they’ve overcome in order to still be here #blessing us five years on

  • there was a full year of inactivity after their third comeback would you like some tea (still their highest charting song to date!!) where literally no one knew what was happening until the ara/yoonjo announcement
  • people always talk about ara and yoonjo leaving the group but it was totally involuntary they were removed from the group bc pledis were poor and useless the girls fought to stay together and cried a lot :( neither ara or yoonjo have redebuted since but they’re both still v close w the members (yoonjo has a million pictures w lime especially but the others too and ara is much more private but recently attended alice’s latest musical) and yoonjo made an insta post last year that made it clear she still misses being in helbi :(
  • nobody was happy about this but poor yeoreum and seoyoung who had no say in the matter at all got abused and ignored so much that ara herself had to explicitly ask people to stop posting about her and yoonjo on helbi’s official sns and to please support the new members (i can’t find it bc she DELETES EVERYTHING but it’s out there somewhere)
  • they had another three comebacks (sticky sticky, wiggle wiggle and i’m ill) then another YEAR AND A HALF OF INACTIVITY. of their 5 year career helbi have spent 2 AND A HALF YEARS without comebacks even when they were at the peak of popularity w wylst
  • in this year and a half they had a collaboration w devine channel for which they released two mvs (glow and paradise) and one more digital song without an mv (runway) which was a lovely surprise but poorly managed bc we went from teasers and everything for glow to just an announcement then mv for paradise to a shitty release in the middle of the night for runway w nothing except the song lol
  • fantagio then decided despite their spending lots of time in the studio during their hiatus to only release one new song (mysterious) and just rerelease the devine channel songs on the mini which would be fine if they hadn’t promised us a full album/it hadn’t been a full year and a half
  • they want to be more active!!!! ‘seoyoung: i am sad that we only have about a week of album activity’
  • the girls literally cried bc they were worried fans were going to forget about them bc it’d been so long :(((( (lime also cried during i’m ill for the same reason)
  • they get upset watching awards ceremonies bc they were invited to them when they were just rookies but they don’t know if they ever will be again :(
  • they’ve been a group for five years and yet they don’t feel like seniors bc they never actually promote ‘nara: as we are not a group that often has activities, we feel like we are still a rookie. all of us don’t know what to do when the juniors greet us. it’s still awkward.’ (there’s an interview somewhere where the interviewer actually calls one of their fellow company actors their senior and helbi have to awkwardly correct them)

pls recognise and respect the hardships these poor girls have faced bc they’ve worked so hard just to keep being hello venus - alice yooyoung and nara have had solo schedules but nara’s always said that all her work w cfs etc has been to help helbi gain opportunities and rise as a group and she’s most comfortable and happy when she’s promoting w her members if i was going to make a list of times they’ve supported each other it’d be twice as long as this one their friendship and perseverance is one of the only reasons they’re still a group pls support them when they comeback in 2054 thank: ‘as we always say, let’s work for more than 20 years and be the first girl group to break the records of Shinhwa.’

Sophie, the girl, is given a spell and transformed into an old woman. It would be a lie to say that turning young again would mean living happily ever after. I didn’t want to say that. I didn’t want to make it seem like turning old was such a bad thing — the idea was that maybe she’ll have learned something by being old for a while, and, when she is actually old, make a better grandma. Anyway, as Sophie gets older, she gets more pep. And she says what’s on her mind. She is transformed from a shy, mousy little girl to a blunt, honest woman. It’s not a motif you see often, and, especially with an old woman taking up the whole screen, it’s a big theatrical risk. But it’s a delusion that being young means you’re happy.
