Mike Minor’s concept art for “Star Trek: Phase II,” a sequel series planned in the 1970s that just didn’t happen.

Didn’t happen, but many of its scripts were recycled into the early seasons of ST:TNG, which accounts for some of the stranger stuff before Pillar took charge of the writing crew.
