Though we are reborn, no two flames burn the same.

TEN MINUTES TO SPARE for my last piece of 2018! My take on various incarnations of Grimm, contrasted with the ‘present day’ one.

The ‘intended purpose’ of the t-pin seems at odds with Lace’s use of it, and in fact, the language both she and her bio use about fighting.

The bio:

“…Who’ll delight in causing Hornet’s swift, skewered demise.”

Lace herself:

“I’ll just skewer you here and now, pluck that flickering life right out of you.”

When a pin is used for blocking, it’s not to destroy the thing it’s working on- it’s for conforming it into a shape. When a pin is used for dissection, it’s for holding a specimen open so it can be, again, worked on.

Pharloom doesn’t seem interested in destroying or repelling enemies nearly as much as it seems interested in bringing people- forcibly if needed- into its hierarchy.

How is this interesting with Lace? Well… both she and her bio talk up the idea of a fast, efficient kill. Which contrasts both of the uses of the pin. Dissection isn’t a swift strike through the heart, nor is blocking.

The pin doesn’t seem to be a personal choice for Lace. We’re told it’s a traditional weapon, that crook shape, along with the bell, seems to be worked into the essential iconography of Pharloom and its ruling religion (the cult wear crook-symbols with the bell centered in the loop) and given the t-pin’s use in blocking, Lace seems to find the current ‘shape’ of Pharloom grotesque.

thought long and hard about hunter x hunter’s main cast’s ranking of normalcy and in my opinion, from most to least normal, it goes,

  1. horny doctor
  2. kid assassin
  3. one letter off from god
  4. can’t help being an aries
