Tomorrow is the Super Bowl and I am pained and conflicted about wanting watching it. As convenient as it would be for me to blame New England for some-yet-undiscovered-way-they–cheated-their-way-into-it again, I’ve only watched 2 quarters of a game (AFC championship game) this year and I would be a liar if I said that I didn’t miss it. Last year I watched none of it until the last 2 quarters of the season because I’m with the mob of everyone that hates the Patriots. Tbh, I want to follow along because it’s a cultural moment and I want to see everyone on Twitter shitting on Maroon 5. If you love watching it, I’m not judging you. I made a choice to stop watching (most of) it. When I used to watch it, the Raiders never seemed to win or lose when I wanted them to go one way or the other, but it was fun. Now, when I watch it, I can’t reconcile my personal values conflicting with the bad things that the league (and their rich corporate owners) have done, condoned, or that they’ve turned a blind eye to. Colin Kaepernick getting banned for kneeling against police brutality was the final straw, though it took me a minute to see what was going on. The Ray Rice situation always bothered me and I should’ve been out by then (tl;dr, the league mildly punished this player for knocking out his girlfriend and were shamed into doing more when TMZ put up the video tape). I’m with Kaep. If you’re watching it tomorrow, have fun and stay safe! https://www.instagram.com/p/BtaDeabnV6h/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=tq9p73d1n3yw

Jesus H., I love myself. I spent a few minutes converting the California 5150 form (which I got in PDF format) to a typeable narrative PDF on @adobe Acrobat. Sometimes I have to do these in my office and handwriting your justification for an involuntary hold is stressful. At least I can edit while on the fly, print, initial, sign, and move on. I have another version with the lines still there and my information already typed in so I can print it for go out to the field... less things to worry about that way #socialwork #socialworktech

O patron saint of casenotes... let my documentation light the way for reimbursement. Let my functional impairments be clearly articulated, and evidenced-based practice righteously delivered. Let my diagnostic rationale be just, and treatment plans be sound. Forever and ever. ramen

NOT A RESOLUTION, but I do want to journal more in 2018. Been meaning to. Another thing I would track on the daily is the “Top News Story” with a line or three of commentary

The ignorance coming from the chief executive makes my blood curdle... an important announcement #socialwork #mentalhealth [Criminally negligent Gun Control Policy is not the same as Mental Illness. And if you’re gonna try to pin gun violence on Mental Illness, effing fund treatment, don’t try to cut it, and block domestic violence abusers from getting guns. I’ve listened to two political podcasts this week that refers to mass shooters as “mentally ill”. While #mentalillness may exist with these murderers, this further reinforces stigma around mental illness. Text: “In the wake of National tragedy, a friendly reminder that criminal behavior is not the same as mental illness. A man who commits premeditated mass murder is a criminal. When he commits mass murder and then kills himself, he is a dead criminal.”

Today is World Social Work Day (#wswd17) and I wanted to share a story to celebrate someone that passed on way too soon for circumstances I'll never understand. "Syrian social worker Anas al-Basha worked hard to bring laughter to children by donning a bright-orange wig and acting silly. He was known as the "Clown of Aleppo". This is the least scary clown I've ever seen. Anas al-Basha was 24 when he died last year. He died in a bombing on 11/29/2016, the same day my family went through some personal tragedy. Before finding an article that said he was a "social worker", I thought it was damn rad that he would cheer up little kids who had been through bombings and war. 100,000 children have been affected by the war. "Al-Basha was a director for a group called Space of Home and could have fled Aleppo with his parents in July. Instead, he donned a wig, painted his face, and spread joy to Aleppo's youngest victims." I was struck by his story because of the selflessness, healing, and joy he gave to the most vulnerable in such horrible circumstances. A paradigm of dignity and courage. A very exceptional social worker. Rest In Peace, Power, and Love.
