JJ slowly walks up to Kie who is laying down on hammock. He sits down on the hammock too without asking permission. Kie is a little bit surprised because she was lost in her mind.

“What’s up, Kie?” JJ touches Kie’s foot with his foot.

Kie doesn’t say anything back.

“Come on, Kie, are you still thinking about the rooster? I didn’t want to kill it too, Kie, you know how much I love roosters.”

“Whatever, JJ.”

JJ looks down, Kie realizes that, she stares at him, how his hair covers up his forehead, hanging there. Kie doesn’t know why but JJ’s hair always gets to her.

“JJ, I am worried about John B.”

JJ looks up, blinks couple times, “we know, Kie. We know.”

“What do you know?”

“We know how much you are worried about John B,” JJ says that with a smirk on his face.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You know what I mean, Kiara,” JJ shrugs.

“I don’t like John B!” Kie’s voice is louder than she expects to be, surprises both of them. “Not like that, not like what you mean.”

JJ’s lips are open like he wants to say something but he holds it back, while Kie shuts her mouth because she doesn’t want to say anything more. She feels exposed already. But she can’t hold it, “what now, JJ? You can’t say anything?”

“Does it matter what I say, Kie?”

“Of course,”

“Nah..” JJ shakes his head. Kie holds her breath, what JJ is doing right now is just like what he did back then, when he was too drunk. They stood up face each other, too close for Kiara to smell JJ’s breath, sweat in his no sleeves grey t-shirt, his eyes were red, looked up straight to her eyes then down to her lips, Kie looked for John B who was playing with his phone on the porch and Pope who sat next to him with a book on his hand. She was with JJ near the hammock and back facing him. She liked it, a lot, being near JJ, but then JJ did that, he shaked his head, smiled and said “Nah..” 

Kie closed her eyes, “I’m going home, it’s so late, my mom must be worried, get some sleep, JJ,” She hit JJ’s shoulder slowly and walked away.

Now she shakes her head, wondering to herself, would she risk everything, their friendship for her confused feelings for JJ?

And JJ knows for sure that he doesn’t deserve Kie, at least not for now.
