"Simplicity" is not the same as "simple".
Oh that explains some of what she was thinking of with Earthsea
I’ll admit, I’m going to miss the little wizard guy. However I do like this thing where they completely change their logo randomly every few months.
I’ve started a collection:
it does more harm than good to prop up the myth of the ‘neurotypical’ who completes tasks cheerfully with no issues. this person is a capitalist fantasy. the more you define yourself in comparison to this myth the more you justify social structures staying the same with minor accommodations to the ‘exceptions’ and the continued pathologizing of discomfort under hostile conditions
In the case of the average workplace/toxic work-ethic, the only thing obviously non-neurotypical people do is show the cracks in the system more; they don't exist outside it. Either way, it is horrid to grade people on how well they're able to bend themselves out of shape to not slip through.
I feel like I severely overestimated the average person at many points in my life as to how well they actually felt in various conditions, partly out of frustration for not living up to an idea of humanity that is greatly dehumanized for convenience's sake in particular, more obvious ways, without realizing that they actually didn't, either. Not in a way that truly worked under the hood.
Oftentimes we assume that someone out there (or everyone else) is living up to a standard we're told to live up to from a young age, when in reality everyone feels exactly the same, and we're just not looking around. Sometimes, if a ridiculous amount of people are "failing" at something, it's because it isn't possible (or genuinely desirable) to win.
oh shit, it's 3/21/23, 32123, palindrome day
