Gov. Haslam needs to do the right thing and grant Cyntoia Brown clemency

She was young black woman involved in the sex trade and she killed a john who threatened her with guns and sexual violence. She fought back and as a result, she’s grown up behind bars.

“When Cyntoia was 16-years-old, a jury convicted her in adult criminal court of first degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery. She was young black woman involved in the sex trade and she killed a john who threatened her with guns and sexual violence. She fought back and as a result, she’s grown up behind bars.

So the federal appellate court asked the State Supreme Court for help clarifying how much time Cyntoia must serve until she’s eligible for release.

The answer came in a decision handed down earlier this week — Cyntoia will have to serve a total of 51 years before she can become eligible for release — she would return to the free world at 67 years old.

This is clearly a de facto life sentence.”

Throughout his career, Rabinowitz continued to support and champion the LGBT community, dedicating his time to treating people with HIV and AIDS, according to the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, which published a report chronicling the fight against AIDS in Pittsburgh from 1981–2014.

“There were a handful who openly welcomed and accepted patients with AIDS. There were no treatment protocols yet, so these doctors and their patients used whatever information they could gather to develop treatment plans. They learned together,” one of the report’s authors wrote, referencing Rabinowitz.

Always be vague. Say I think they’re in today or not until later. If they press say it’s company policy not to give out the schedule. Most companies do have this and even if they don’t how would a stranger know. Don’t give out specifics, they can get people injured or even killed.

At my last job someone came up and asked when “Sarah” was working next. I didn’t tell him and then texted her a description, turns out he was an abusive ex who had been stalking her. Don’t do this shit please.

Thoughts about transphobia, TERFs, and TUMFs – Julia Serano – Medium

For many decades now, transgender communities have used the term “transphobic” as a catch-all adjective to describe language, actions, attitudes, and/or people that delegitimize or disparage us. The word certainly serves an important purpose, as it allows us to identify the many things out there that undermine or injure us. But much like other analogous terms (e.g., misogynistic, racist, homophobic, etc.), it seems to create a one-size-fits-all category that includes everything from inadvertent and relatively minor infractions, to intentional and serious attempts to dehumanize and disappear us.

In the title of this essay, I forwarded a new acronym: TUMF. It stands for “Trans-Unaware Mainstream Feminists,” which I believe more accurately describes many women who make trans-exclusive comments. I don’t expect the term to catch on. And I don’t expect the “TERF is a slur” crowd to like TUMF any better. (In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they find TUMF to be even less aesthetically pleasing than TERF!) But I very much wanted to put this general idea out into the universe. Unlike TERFs (who are fairly rare, transphobic to the core, and frankly not worth spending the energy trying to convince), there are a lot of TUMFs out there, many of whom are uninformed and acting on a “gut level.”

That same year, an Arizona woman named Shanesha Taylor was charged with two counts of felony child abuse and sentenced to 18 years of supervised probation, all because she had no child care and had to leave her two younger children in the car while she went on a job interview. In a country that provides no subsidized child care and no mandatory family leave, no assurance of flexibility in the workplace for parents, no universal preschool and minimal safety nets for vulnerable families, making it a crime to offer children independence in effect makes it a crime to be poor.

Motherhood in the Age of Fear: Women are being harassed and even arrested for making perfectly rational parenting decisions.
