one thing I've noticed among autistic (and otherwise mentally ill) people is that they seem to have a low threshold of tolerance for discomfort. this perception occurs because they seem to hit their limit very quickly in challenging situations. but a lot of autistic people are actually very dissociated from their bodies a lot of the time, and so a lot of background discomfort, stress, and bodily signals go completely ignored until they enter the visible range and immediately become unbearable. whereas if you're less detached from your body you're aware of what it's telling you, but you can mark it for later attention and ignore it now. ime autistic people seem to jump straight from being indifferent to food to hunger-induced headaches but obviously they've been needing to eat since before that without realising it. and it can take a long time when you're dissociating constantly to figure out how to read your body's signs of hunger or discomfort before they blow up to needing instant repair

YES. I have ADHD and chronic pain and I have found another aspect of this is that when you’re used to doing so much of your coping and processing internally, other people may not realize that you’ve spent the last however long talking yourself through any number of difficult things, be they physical mental or both. So what appears to be low tolerance is quite the opposite but people only see a fraction of it.

Oh shit is this why having a very mild headache shuts me down really quickly and easily?

bat at hornets nest maybe but "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" refers to low income communities needing to choose between survival vs being eco friendly. not you continuing to watch the harry potter movies

This thread is a few years old but it bears repeating. I’m tired of being treated as if I am invisible. Listen to Jewish voices when we talk about fascism. I am begging you.

The widely accepted nonviolent approach to nazis has, in fact, lead to a dramatic increase in the number of nazis in recent years.

if you allow them to speak, to give them a platform as though their oppinions are valid or equal, they have already partially won, and they have already made very clear what their goals are if they win

Let punching nazis not be a separate concept from having them at all

The problem with nuclear power plants is that you would want the workers to observe the processes carefully to avoid disaster, however nuclear power plants generate energy by boiling water, so the plant technicians can’t watch what’s happening or the water won’t boil due to the Watchpot Phenomenon. Thankfully scientists have overcome this hurdle in recent decades by squinting so the water thinks their eyes are closed and that it isn’t being watched

Terry Pratchett couldn't have written it better.

Y’know this is the second time someone has compared this post to Terry Pratchett, I’m honestly really honored

Okay two things

1) every time I see something like this, or photos of wild unrealistic landscapes that really exist, or spectacular architecture, whatever it is, I think again that when we write fantasy, we NERF REALITY. That is, here’s some dude with a special interest and a brain that somehow lacks basic self preservation mechanisms, and he’s out here looking like a super hero. Regular humans are capable of things we seem super human. Real landscapes are more fantastical than our fantasies. Reality is more fantastical than our fantasies.

2) how the fuck did he not kick out any windows that’s the most impressive part of the whole video.

this man is his own zombie apocalypse team, adding anyone else would just slow him down

So as someone who used to teach parkour back in the day, this dude isn’t just talented. His technique is amazing.

It’s not just about not kicking out windows. Controlling how you land is about shock absorption, about minimizing the strain on your joints. It also makes you quieter when you move. A good landing should be as silent as possible, because loud landings hurt. That’s the foundation of everything else you do in parkour. So by the time you’re climbing buildings, if you’re breaking windows it means you don’t have enough control to land safely and it’s time to go back to your ground basics.

Be the rogue you want to see in the world.

Yeah so this is the guy who tests the Ninja Warrior stuff. He’s like an Olympian of parkour, that’s why this looks so good.

I'd like to point out that the rainbow has more positive than negative meanings.

im sorry but this reply absolutely killed me the rainbow can mean whatever the heck you want it to mean, that is never going to change that this straight up looks like they DRAGGED BLOODY BODIES ACROSS THE FUCKING FLOOR 😂

Hi fun fact, colors do have meaning and there is a legit thing called color theory. The rainbow does have more positive connotations than negative like the @ mintymaiden said. For example, violet is associated with more money, wisdom, and elegance than with blood and death just like the chart shows you. Also, check out "The Designer's Dictionary of Color" by Shaune Addams. Have fun learning something

You can theorize to Thrashthrust and back but that doesn't change my immediate reaction which is that someone is literally dragging corpses around

I like that the presumption here is that "No One On Grumblr Has Heard of Color Theory. Let Me Explain in Depth" rather than simply acknowledging that the VISUAL EFFECTS of this particular color choice, applied in the manner it was, can still amount to "this is a hospital and that looks like blood"

like, color theory doesn't exist in a vacuum. If your design of choice for Hemospectrum Paint is asymmetric splatters and splotches against the wall, or in this case, a shellbeast trail on the hallway's floor, and infographic won't override the viewers' instinct

🏙 eternal-dannation Follow

this post is the perfect summation of grumblr's reading comprehension and critical thought abilities

I have so many questions, is this an edited version of the original post? Or did these people come together to just make a different version of the color theory post? Why are they calling tumblr “grumblr”? They’re still acting like the rainbow is blood colored? There is no obvious joke to this, rereading this post there’s even more words I don’t understand, what is a “thrashthrust”, the hell is a “hemospectrum”, “shellbeast”? Am I hallucinating? Is this post from a separate reality? Did I fall into a wormhole into one without my knowledge? Is this a Mandela effect? Has the post and meme always been like this and I just forgot? I am in distress over this post

I figured out the secret life hack that the ableds don’t want you to know about.

My fellow chronic pain and limited mobility bitches, if you’re looking for ways stay active and get some exercise while working around your issues instead of against them, look up “[Thing you want to do] for seniors.”

Before i learned i have fight or flight bones i always said i had old people bones and yknow somehow i never thought of this

I’ve been trying to keep my core muscles toned enough to stop my skeleton from completely falling apart for years and I only figured this one out like yesterday

Bonus: the local YMCA often has gentle fitness courses designed for seniors to keep fit, and my experience is that if you are the one young person gamely showing up and being friendly, you will immediately be adopted and get to give advice on what the Youngs think even if you are like thirty two.

Plus water aerobics is literally the most fun physical exercise I’ve ever done and the coaches give you instructions tailored to your body’s actual abilities, not the abilities of some way more athletic kid, and no one gives a shit if you show up in wildly gender variant swim shit.

Going to a “gentle water exercise” course was a major part of my journey towards exercise that actually benefited me. I find that instructors who came from the “fitness” world and just added it as an additional class on their schedule were not nearly as useful as ones who came from the “rehab” world and were very aware of how exercises could injure people with different conditions.

The other early stepping stone for me was Restorative Yoga, in a studio that actively discouraged competition and pushing your body too far. It was a shock to go to Restorative classes elsewhere and be asked to do a headstand or back bridge with no alternatives. At the studio I learned the most at, sometimes I would just fall asleep during class, and the instructor would gently wake me up when it was time to go. She understood it wasn’t lack of respect, it was me giving my body what it needed.

I should absolutely sign up for gentle exercise courses

But this is also absolutely true for accommodation devices. Especially ones that don’t have a “name”

They will often have something to make things easier for you

I re-blogged this (the first time) in 2014. Today, I tried half a dozen times to re-blog it, and it wouldn’t work. So, I saved the images and re-posted it. I hope it helps make life a little easier. :-)   The original post is by iraffiruse.

Long but cool as hell.

I’ve been using these tips for ten years and not one has failed me.

remember when “lifehacks” were useful?
