Her eyes narrowed, knowing all too well he was playing the same game she was. “Your solution is sensible, however, does not account for one thing.” Elizabeth looked up at him, a small smirk growing on her pink lips. “I’ll very well freeze having to stay here all night. Surely you would not let me stay out in the cold.”

Of course not. - He immediately replied with a smirk, the amusement more than obvious on his face. - That’s why you’d be given blankets. That’s what they are for afterall. - He said and couldn’t help but chuckle at this point.

At first her expression was agitated but once she saw his reaction, she could not help but smirk.

“Even so, the deck would be frightfully uncomfortable. Subjecting me to the harsh conditions, seems a rather cruel punishment, does it not?”

How dare you” Elizabeth looked at the man with anger in her eyes at his clearly unwelcome remark regarding her departed husband. “Speaking on such a crude matter only displays your lack of decency”

G o o d men and f i n e women { Jack & Elizabeth }

It was another one of those days. Jack ruminated, staring into his pale glass of ale - he much would have preferred rum, but it was all he could afford in his present state, which spoke of little more than misery.

For the few times over the years that he had met his father on his travels, and been again to Shipwreck Cove, he had hoped the blighter might at last admit to Jack as his own, ending the pitiful guise of Sparrow being his protégé - Christ, Teague had been saving him now, but Jack wondered if it weren’t all for some terribly delayed sense of guilt - what protecting had been done when leaving a lad of 14 alone, to grieve over the freshly buried corpse of a mother taken too soon? “Yer man enough now,” he had said. Yes, a man…Just not the kind Teague was, Jack hoped; he despised the fact his dad now fancied himself a pirate, when it was naught but escape from his responsibilities. If Edward at one point had returned, it was only to cut off the head from Estrella’s rotting corpse in some warped display of affection that sickened Jack every time he were forced to lay his sorry pair of eyes on it. Given such “opportunity”, Jack much rather would have preferred ignoring his mother’s…presence altogether - were it not for Teague’s raspy laughter, sounding as if the man himself had long ago passed, commenting from beyond the grave on how “they all stay together forever”.

It would hardly have been the case, were papa Teague to uncover Jack had, against law and order, seen fit to spare Christophe from the gallow’s embrace, only to be press-ganged for his services later. Though he’d managed to make his own conclusions from such a lovely French affair, still Jack harbored no doubt Teague would gladly punish him for such naivete - and be the lesson as well-intended or fatherly as it may, Jack had no intent to die by the hand of the Keeper of the Code.

This family truly had gone to the shitters - and perhaps, in some way, it was better for Estrella not to have to see it.

Money since his latest return had run out, and with it, so too ran out the patience of the hostess who’d been putting a roof over Jack Sparrow’s head, leaving him with no home to speak of - scarcely could he recall how he’d managed to make his way to Port Royal, as far as considering he had felt it only decent to decline any and all offers for help from Greene. There was no need of dragging anyone down with him, and surely, having been marooned together, if out of solidarity on the part of Greene, was misfortune quite enough.

With the future uncertain and food and drink scarce, Jack was more than acutely aware of his solidary station on the Earth; and by the very nature of its name, it would seem unlikely for the folk of Port Royal to be interested in employing with anything half decent a no one such as him, much less so were a soul to discover Sparrow had been meddling with pirates. Willing or not, he may get his date with the gallows after all, he thought.

Downing the last of his ale, he turned the emerald green ring on his finger - the memory of mother that he preferred to that over a decaying corpse. He knew, were he to sell it, he’d be out of trouble for a while - maybe even good for a small boat.

But a thousand rivers in a thousand places of the world would have to run into the oceans, before Jack might ever consider becoming captain in such an underhanded way.

He’d make do somehow, he figured, but was quickly retrieved from his contemplations soon as he produced the shillings to pay for his drink.

“Oye! Yer short. Be 5 shillings fer th’ ale,” he was soon scolded at in thick, demanding accent.

“What? No it isn’t,” the young man retorted, confusion and frustration taking turns on his face. “It’s three, you know it’s three, I saw it was three or I wouldn’t have sat here. What do you think I’m made of, money?” he spat, humiliated by acknowledging his station in life: Jack Teague Sparrow - haggling over ale.

This day was going to give him a headache.

“I don’t make the prices, boy.”

“Yes you do! That’s the bloody point of an establishment, isn’t it?!” he said, helpless anger growing. Much as it was not his day, neither could he surrender himself to the idiocy and sheer unfairness of the matter.

“Your fucking ale costs three shillings, and that’s what I’m paying you. I don’t have more.”

Image

“Ale still costs 5, shouldn’ have bought it if ya can’t afford it. I’ll go under with people like you.”

“I didn’t…I saw…it isn’t…it’s 3 shillings! It’s 3 shillings, he’s lying!” Jack continued, hoping to spark some kind of outrage in clients for being duped - only, each would seem more upset with Jack for having interfered brutely with various conversation.

At last, throwing his hands up in defeat, having realized it was what the universe expected of him on that day, he stood up, beginning the rash walk towards the exit of the tavern. As it was, the sun had risen high into the skyline, and he’d need to come by employment soon. There was simply no time for this.

“Where do ya think yer goin’, soddin’ thief! Come back here!”

But Jack Sparrow didn’t return, only allowing the crowd of the tavern to swallow him further. He needed to get out, to feel the sun, fresh air, and salty scent of the sea.

Once out in the scorching sun, squinting his eyes, staring at the noses of his shoes when they got too sore and watered, he was at last free to wander aimlessly towards said uncertain future. The shoes, too, would soon need replacing.

In attempt to consider what he had, instead of what he did not - could not - would not - was not, Jack kept his gaze often towards the sea as he walked, as, unlike others, it seemed to love him always, to call for him, always - and wait for him, always.

In another life, I would actually be having one. Elizabeth thought gazing around the over done, pompous event her father had made her attend. “I just want you to have a good life, Elizabeth. Even when I can no longer provide one for you” her father’s words spinning in her mind. He had the best of intentions sure enough, but the way she saw it, a husband meant being locked away in the confines of this society for good. Always have to put a front, never getting to truly express the way one feels about any matter, and not to mention having to provide children. Women were objectified in high society, used as a method to gain good standing, with a seemingly virtuous women at your side, a man could accomplish anything.

Elizabeth looked on this with pity. The women she had befriended in her time caught in the societal walls were all already married. This caused her father to work around the clock setting up suitors for her to meet on every occasion. For this particular occasion, her father seemed very pleased with his choice for the evening. Glancing over at her escort, he was a tall and noticeably handsome. He was the son of some diplomat or other, Nicholas she believed his name was, not that she was particularly listening.

Each man she had met at these events had an almost identical story. Being raised in wealth, going to some prestigious school in some far off country, and coming back to take over their father’s position in our government. She wondered how many women fawned over the story they had told, just for the possibility of gaining a husband. Thinking on all of it, only made her want to leave the party even earlier than she had already intended.

All that was required to slip away from the party was a distraction, no matter how small. Luckily for her, the call for dinner was being made, making for the opportune moment to slip away. Taking the final sip of her champagne, she made her exit.

The constriction she had felt was immediately relieved when she got a breath of fresh air. It was a wonder how anyone looked upon high society in envy, when all her thoughts were consumed with leaving it. Looking down at her attire, she would surely stand out walking about in such an extravagant gown. Stealthily making her way to the carriage she arrived in, Elizabeth grabbed a cloak to hopefully conceal her conspicuous attire. With that, she made her way to the one place that could clear her thoughts and lighten her mood, the ocean.

Making her way through the crowded streets was task in itself, hoping not to bump into anyone or draw any attention to herself. For she was the Governor’s daughter, most town people knew her face. It was only when the ocean was in range did she become distracted by its beauty.

That was when she ran into someone on the street, though she could tell it was not entirely her fault. Her mind snapped back to reality, ready to reprimand the stranger for their lack of attention.

“You may want to watch where you are going, sir-” When she looked up, her eyes met his. All feelings of animosity immediately left her, replaced with genuine intrigue.

The man was tall but not too tall. His hair black as night and brown eyes just as dark. There was a mystery about him that immediately made her want to know more. She had been taught curiosity only lead to bad decisions.However, was never one to follow the rules anyway.

Main Verse;

Elizabeth is post AWE, having lost her father, James, and Will. For she sees it as though Will had died in that battle. In her eyes, he has a debt to be paid, one that has a price far higher than anyone can afford, time. She would not live forever, nor did she have desire to. Will was cursed to live forever and sail the seas but once every ten years, able to walk on land. Elizabeth would not wait for him and did not expect him to wait for her. Their destinies were simply not meant to join. While healing and grieving over her losses, Elizabeth took refuge in Shipwreck Cove. Her time at the Cove proved what she had known all along, she was truly in her element. Learning the Code from Captain Teague, spending time with the Pirate Lords, and earning an insight to the highly complex, for pirates at least, piratical system. While at the Cove, she ran across the Empress, a ship previously captained by Sao Feng and one she had been given the rights as captain. That being said, she captained over the Empress and took to the seas.

Modern Verse;

Elizabeth Swann, a uniform officer at the 12th precinct living in New York City. She was raised in the city and was gradually sanded down by it’s harsh and unforgiving nature. Having lost her mother at a young age and being raised by her father, she had always been quite unique from other girls of her age. Not wanting to buy clothes or talk about boys, her nature was always more rebellious. Which ended up landing her into trouble quite often. This is what lead her getting to know the local law enforcement, in turn, what caused her to become a cop. Her passion for instilling a sense of faith in something greater than herself is what keeps her focused on her career.

AU: Everything Has Changed Verse;

In this verse, created by the lovely @tied-to-the-sea-but-roaming-free, Elizabeth is around the age of 17. This before the Pirates of the Carribean series where Jack is not even close to being the man Elizabeth knows all too well. In this verse, Elizabeth is naive, stubborn, hot-headed, and stuck in societal ways. Her mind is so focused on marriage to please her father, she does not have a moment to complete any thoughts for herself. Every night is a different gala in which she must make herself to be something she is not. Putting on a intricate gown and a fabricated smile, she is miserable. Having to find a husband in the mess of it all, only makes her suffering that much more horrendous. In this young version of Elizabeth, she has a mask that she puts on display for the world to see but inside, there is so much more. Once past that mask, her true self is displayed, something that she cannot allow for in her place in society.

More to be added! This is just a basis for now

“And am I to be understanding that you will not miss my company?” Her nature to tread dangerous waters crept, as she closed some of the distance between the captain and herself.

Jack had seen her play this game more than once, and in fact he had been the victim of said game before. The thing was, he actually had invented the game in the first place. - My dearest, of course you will be terribly missed… but apparently my smell is far too strong for your tastes, therefore, I see no other option but to offer you the only place in which said smell will not bother you.
