Now is a good reminder as to why we build community. Why we share solidarity. Why it's important to have peers and be comfortable in the physical presence of them.

Mobilizing online is not safe in a surveillance state. We need to physically be with each other. If you look at any old protest or civil rights movement they knew that. They had physical meetups where phones couldn't be tapped and listening ears couldn't eavesdrop.

With Roe v Wade overturned (and Justice Thomas saying that same sex relationship/marriage and access to contraception should also be "reconsidered") I feel like it's important to mention how critical mutual aid is. How crucial it is to have allies and people you can turn to. To know exactly where to go when you need to seek out safety.

Yes protest. Yes make your voice known. Learn how to help others.

But absolutely do not underestimate the power of going to a local meet up/protest and making friends. Not just with your group of feminists or LGBTs or anti-racist action leagues either. Go to each other's events. Build supportive relationships. Build solidarity. Expand your community.

Remember whether it's our uteri they're after, our land, our oil, our kids, our marriages, or our human rights... we have more reasons to fight together than we'll ever have to tear each other apart.

Don't let them do that to us. TERFs, racists, undercover cops, the CIA, the kkk, the FBI, etc. They've all spent decades trying to cut off our communities from one another. Spent decades trying to ruin our communities from the inside out and limit our strength. We can't allow that anymore.

They are coming for all of us.

And it is all of us that they will be up against, united

How can you help once you created a network/group of friends?

Protest. That's #1.

As an extension of bodily autonomy, allow folks to use their bodies and protest how they see fit. If someone is making you uncomfortable or doing something you disagree with, walk away.
Make sure you're prepared with the proper gear, escape route, etc. Know your rights.
There are tons of tips for this so I'll leave it at this so the post doesn't get too long.

For folks who can't protest but wanna do more than vote and don't know what to do then please check out these suggestions from another post

Tumblr let me blaze my solidarity post so now I'm updating it to include direct action tips.

🖤 Take care of each other 🖤

"Stop gaslighting us! Stop telling us to go vote and get out in the streets. We've been voting. We've been in the streets. This is gaslighting! We cannot make change in the same system that harmed us. That is an abuse cycle! Stop!"
(x)

It's actually the 4th and last phase of the abuse cycle before it repeats.

The next step will be Tension. The unrest before violence is committed again.

Do you already feel the pressure and anger of Democrats? Have you already seen them warning you about impending doom if you don't vote blue? You notice how they're setting the stage to justify whatever disappointments and violence happens after the coming elections?

Do not forget this is the same party that promised to address police violence, abolish student debt, codify Roe v Wade into federal law, and stand with natives, and then did the total opposite.

The system itself, regardless of party affiliation still enables violence such as death, sickness, forced births, kidnapping, forced sterilizations, pain compliance, and slavery against some of the most oppressed groups in the country. Legally.

So in 2022 do not be gaslit into thinking voting blue is enough to save your rights when the judicial system itself is what allows them to be violated and when a democratic president could not stop them from being entirely removed.

We need to change the system, not just the color of it's mask. And to change the system we must be a threat to it, not active participants.

stop feeling hopeless, start getting ready

If you are in a red state, your state either has an abortion ban in place or is rated by the Guttmacher Institute as likely to enact a ban. Your focus should be on protecting yourself and others who need abortions.

  • stop using electronic period tracking apps or software
  • educate yourself and others about pregnancy prevention and join groups that are making preventative birth control more accessible
  • learn the nearest and most accessible routes to states where you and your loved ones can access abortion
  • contribute to mutual aid funds to help transport people over state lines if they are in need of abortion
  • consider joining The Satanic Temple so you can claim protections under the Religious Abortion Ritual if you are prosecuted for obtaining an abortion
  • keep a stock of by-mail abortion pills for yourself and/or others who may need them (you may need to travel out of state to obtain them)
  • form community provider networks and see if you or someone you know can be trained to use manual vacuum aspiration kits or a Del-Em
  • all of the above should be done in complete secrecy using verbal communication, end-to-end encrypted apps such as Signal, or a VPN

If you are in a yellow state, you currently have constitutional abortion protections but they are in jeopardy. Get active in local political groups NOW to fight back against constitutional amendments to ban abortion. Your focus should be purely on political action.

If you are in Michigan, you currently have a ban in place which is being challenged, and your governor is working to add abortion protections into the Michigan state constitution. Your focus should be on supporting the work that is currently under way.

If you are in a green state, your state has constitutional protections for abortion that are unlikely to be challenged. Your focus should be on helping others to enter your state for abortion care.

  • connect with abortion access groups such as Aid Access, Abortion on Demand, the National Network of Abortion Funds, or Just The Pill
  • volunteer to help people enter your state for abortion care, either with transportation help or letting someone crash on your couch
  • if you live in a green state with no current or predicted primary routes from other states for abortion access, you can focus your efforts on supporting political action in other areas

If you are in a purple state, your state currently has no constitutional protections for abortion but is unlikely to implement a ban. You have two focuses: pushing for constitutional protections AND helping others to enter your state for abortion care (see green state list).

The dismantling of Roe v Wade will go down in history as one of the most damning indictments of american politics and a public health decision, no matter how short or long lived, that will shape the pain and suffering of generations to come.
