My friend takes this one step further and refers completely accurately to his girlfriend Danielle as "My partner, Dan"

Also i hate to say it but for some people, boyfriend/girlfriend feels a bit juvenile, say, if youre over 30, or perhaps youve been with someone for a very long time and are committed life partners but not married for whatever reason. Maybe husband/wife feels a little watered down to you and you want to establish the equal nature of your relationship.

Partner is a wonderful word and it should be normalized.

i also like the air of mystery it lends.

โ€œthis is my partner.โ€

in what? romance? business? art? rock-climbing? crime? all at once? who knows! gotta keep people guessing.

I donโ€™t understand how on TV, people can break into homes and immediately find bank statements, passports and super important documents. If someone tried that at my place it would be โ€œIโ€™m sure she keeps her important stuff in her desk. No, wait, this draw is full of pens that donโ€™t work. Aha! This box looks important! Oh, never mind. Itโ€™s full of cigarette lighters. She doesnโ€™t even smoke!โ€

*I* canโ€™t even find my own important documents in my own home half the time. If someone breaks in and instantly finds my stuff theyโ€™re hired

Robber, standing in the middle of the room: Now, if I were an anxious, possibly undiagnosed ADHD, bisexual disaster with a really bad memory, where would I put the documents?

Client:ย OK, this is the target. ย The back door will be unlocked. ย The place is a mess, the person there has ADHD off the walls. ย Find these documents and bring them to me.

Professional Thief:ย Right. What do I do if they come home and find me there, how you want me to handle that?

Client: Nah, wonโ€™t happen. Iโ€™m gonna sit at the coffeeshop until you call me, I wonโ€™t be home.

Professional: What?

Client:ย What?

of all the US Senators you could pick on, you chose the dude who's on all the committees relevant to your companies.

nice work dude

Please don't miss the part of the story where Post reporter Geoffrey A. Fowler chose this Senator, of all people, to openly impersonate. Because honestly that is king shit. This wasn't a random Senator, this was a setup.

The linked article includes to the detail that the reporter didn't just choose to impersonate this senator; he asked and was granted permission to do so by Senator Markey.

Does no one else have any concerns about a United States senator using his position to threaten a private citizen with a congressional takeover of his assets if he doesn't comply with the senator's personal wishes?

does any body else have an issue with a regulatory body threatening to regulate a product if the producers of that product refuse to follow regulations? anybody? can any one hear me?

Books are being banned and removed from library shelves. This is a very bad thing. I was one of the authors who protested. I would have protested even if my book hadn't have been one of the books banned.

There's also a new bad thing going on for Missouri libraries. I took this from St. Charles County Libraries' website to explain it:

--

Missouriโ€™s Secretary of State is proposing a new administrative rule that would require libraries to โ€œinstitute measures to protect minors from non-age-appropriate materialsโ€ in order to receive state funding. Parents or guardians would have the right to challenge a libraryโ€™s age-appropriate designation for any material. A 30-day window for public input opens November 15; we urge our community and state to review the measure. Read our statement and learn how you can respond.

--

Please, please, follow the website link and send an email saying this is wrong and unnecessary!

Adding how you can help prevent this:

Public comment period opened Tuesday. PLEASE send a quick comment to:

comments@sos.mo.gov and let Missouriโ€™s Secretary of State know you OPPOSE a ban on books in public libraries. You must include 15 CSR 30-200.015 in the subject field.

real freedom includes the right to be a fucked-up dysfunctional weirdo. when you lack this right, your inability or refusal to comply with social norms will be used as a pretext to take away your other freedoms. all of us are fucked-up weirdos on the inside, so with sufficiently hostile and intrusive surveillance anyone can be unpersoned.

Fucked-up dysfunctional weirdo with full rights to and supports available to ensure whatever needs can be functionally met and are desired by said weirdo are filled.

If you donโ€™t support the rights of kooks, weirdos, freaks, oddballs, and funky fellows then get out.

The pathologization and criminalization of pecularity doesnโ€™t only affect the neurodivergent and the mentally ill, it can and will be used by the state against โ€œnormalโ€ people the moment they step out of line.

Not only is it good to support the rights of freaks and weirdos on the grounds of protecting the rights of the neurodivergent and mentally ill, itโ€™s also good on the grounds of cutting off a vector of state repression against the general public.

As soon as you start deeming it acceptable to take away the basic rights of โ€œfreaksโ€, you open the door to being deemed a โ€œfreakโ€ yourself as soon as those in power decide youโ€™re inconvenient.

Throwing โ€œweirderโ€ people under the bus will never guarantee you safety. You gotta park the bus so it stops running people over in general.

This is why the right to privacy is so, so crucial.

โ€œWhy canโ€™t we enhance the surveillance state? Do you have something to hide?โ€

Maybe I just like being my best, weirdest self without you looking at me. Let live our best lives by leaving us the fuck alone. Live and let live. Mind your business and Iโ€™ll mind mine.

โ€œWhy canโ€™t we enhance

the surveillance state? Do you

have something to hide?โ€

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

One of the first lessons in my political science classes was the sentiment,ย โ€œbasic rights are not for the people you do like, but for the people you donโ€™t.โ€ย

Which is to say, if you were in charge you would already give the people you like rights, but the important part is giving the freaks and weirdos and people you donโ€™t like the same basic dignity and protections.

i feel like a trait of โ€œtumblr sexymanโ€ thatโ€™s getting lost as of late is. the incomprehensibility of it all. i will see characters who are just like, conventionally attractive anime men be referred to as sexymen and its like. no. no. like its not just โ€œany dude some tumblr people lose their shit forโ€, a fundamental part of the experience of like, learning about tumblr sexyman is that your initial reaction to learning a character is a sexyman is to go โ€œhow the fuck could ANYONE ever find this sexyโ€. a shortstack funny comedy skeleton. a character from a dr seuss book whose only viewable limbs are their arms. the incredibly low poly model of a half life 1 security guard. your first reaction upon learning what the sexyman is should be confusion and bafflement. itโ€™s core to the whole concept.
